Lawro: £20m LFC star hasn't had a single "outstanding" game yet. Agree?

It's generally accepted that overseas players need time to get used to the Premier League when they arrive in England. There are always exceptions to the rule; Luis Suarez, for example, took to Liverpool like a duck to water, as did the likes of Fernando Torres and Xabi Alonso. British players with experience of playing in an English league are supposed to settle in much quicker, but in Liverpool's case, it's the Brits who've needed - and still need - the most time to get up to speed.

I know I've highlighted this over and over again, but Jordan Henderson, Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll have mustered up a grand total of 4 goals in the league between them this season, with Henderson contributing just one of those goals.

Liverpool legend Mark Lawrenson accepts that Henderson needs time to develop, but he seems unsure whether he'll make it in the long run. He told the Liverpool Daily Post:

"Some players take a while to settle at a new club, while others such as Jose Enrique and Craig Bellamy don’t have much bother at all.

"Jordan Henderson is taking his time, but he is only young and was still learning the game at Sunderland when Liverpool took a punt on him.

"He is athletic and intelligent and may turn out to be a good player but, apart from maybe recently against Arsenal, he hasn’t had an outstanding match yet".

I'm sure Henderson will turn out to be a 'good' player, but I'm not convinced he'll end up being good enough for Liverpool. It's not like he's some babe in the woods; Henderson played over 70 Premier League games for Sunderland, so he should be used to the league by now.

Henderson has the advantage of hiding behind his age at the moment, but that won't last forever. Soon, people won't be able to say 'but he's still young' - the time will come where he'll have to stop passing sideways and backwards, and start taking real responsibility on the pitch.

Today's game against Wigan is the perfect opportunity for Henderson to stamp his authority on a game, and Anfield Icon Jan Molby believes it could be the 'perfect stage' for his talents:

"I also see this [today's game against Wigan] as potentially being a good chance for Jordan Henderson. He has bundles of energy and Wigan will not just come and defend on Saturday".

  1. He's rubbish ..hes done nothing all year what makes you say he'll be any good today...what he really needs is a spell in the reserves where he actually has to earn his place in the first team.

  2. Lets be honest Henderson is not good enough, Stirling who cost next to nothing is a far better bet. Carroll should be dumped at the earliest and as to Downing I just don't know whether it's a case of square peg in round hole.

  3. I am giving thanks that we might see the back of Adam now.

  4. He's a pansy who's too in love with himself and too worried about his dodgy 80's barnet. He may turn out to be an ok squad player, but for almost the same money as masch and 50% more than alonso, id say he's a complete failure.
he and downing should be sold to sunderland asap.

  5. Yeah I think for the money Henderson is a joke. Unless he turns into Gerrard in the years ahead, then why pay so much for a player with so much to learn? I don't Henderson ever being world class, so we're being patient for what exactly?

  6. please boycott today's game dont go to anfield its the only way to stop this catastrophe at liverpool , kenny and co are playing with our feelings they never care about us , its a big shame today to be a lfc fan all people around you laughing at you non stop this must be stopped, kenny  please either leave or win thats all you gotta do

  7. He just has'nt got it,he is a liability in a red shirt,a dreamer lacking in the passion needed for LFC.

  8. boycott anfield?? if you have personnally bought a ticket and then you choose not to go, that is your issue. I would never bycott a match over managers or players. The only time i would boycott a match would be through ruthless money grabbing owners, that is it.

YNWA is a strong statement and the test of the statement only applies truly when your back is against the wall and you need support. currently our backs are against the wall in the league and the manager and players need support.
It is great that the majorrity of fans at this club will air their veiws aside from the 90 minutes of football and will support the team on the pitch.
Henderson has been poor and i have been vocal on here about hendersons poor performances, but at the match i will give him support if he is playing, like i did lucas. after the game yes i will comment on how good or bad he was but during the game i will support him and hope he does well. The player will know he is not playing to his potential and if all he gets is abuse then confidence will only go one way, down. as fans it is our job to support the team and i also understand it is ourr job to comment when people are not playing well. for me, its when we do it. during a game i will always support the team and never want them to loose, after the game i will comment and say what i feel. there are some fans who i have talked to that want us to loose a game just to prove a point or they will heckle players through a match, i dont understand this mentality.

  9. He's saying nothing new and we didn't know already.Apart from Bellamy who cost nothing the other Brit signings are WASTE OF MONEY.

  10. Not good enough. Not hardworking enough. Fergie pretended to be interested to spark Kenny into buying, so Steve Bruce could cash in and buy some Manure rejects and steel Connor Wickham from under us with our own cash. Bad times.

  11. One of the 3 worst value for money in the recent  transfer dealings in the whole of the english league apart from those of Carrol and Downing and sadly all done at the behest of the great King Kenny.KK has to go if he really believes that nobody is bigger than the club.

  12. FOOLGLISH needs to go now !!! £100 million pounds for Adam ( made up he's out for season ) downing ( zero assists all season ) says it all ? Henderson ( Mr invisible ) Carroll ( £35 million pounds ) you should be sacked just for his signing alone ??? Worst player in premier league history, and are FOOLGLISH utd them all...Leave are once great club !!! Your worse than Souness FOOLGLISH FACT

  13. I am happy as long as Adam and Henderson are not in the team or even the bench.

Carroll's problem lies with KD. He is either not given enough time or simply no crosses reach him from our wings.

  14. I second that....the blackpool Alonso ....he wouldn't look out of place at port vale or somewhere

  15. Steady on Lawro , you could lose your place in Kenny's 4 ball

  16. At last someone has the same view as me regarding Henderson. Not many people see it that way. I've always said he is a pansy. wat I say is even if we get rid of him for free it still is a plus point for us, as he is a liability. I dnt even see him improving. He does not even break a sweat. His kit has not seen a single bit of dirt. Adams and downing are not great either but credit to the those guys for giving 100%. hendo makes the mistakes and the blame gives down to the defenders. He puts the defenders under so much pressure.

  17. I think in the league we have nothing left to play for so what about playing Coates, Sterling, Henderson(even though he drives me mad he has not got a proper chance in the middle),and most importantly Carroll every game from now till the end of the season. Not altogether obviously, but at the same time, at this moment why not?Except for Carroll  i got a feeling he could be good with better players around him and if he stops being a lazy bollix

  18. HENDERSON-THE MOST STUPID.NO SKILL.NO VISION.GARBAGE.LAZY  OF LFC PLAYER IN HISTORY...KD SHOULD BE SACKED OR IF HE'S MAN ENOUGH PLS STEP DOWN..AND BRING ALONG YOUR STOOGES..

Liverpool 3 Bolton 1 , earlier this season Henderson scored a sweet goal (with his left foot) he played several good passes , one such assisted another goal….Lawrenson needs to pay more attention to his ‘ahem’ journalistic skills. More fools fuel for endless internet age witch-hunting . Henderson like so many this season is one for the future period!in this want it now age, player potential is continually sacrificed to the games shame.

  21. If you really see quality in Henderson, than you should go and support another team. Henderson, Adam, Downing and Carroll, are all cr*p, and they should have NEVER been allowed near a LFC shirt.

I would like to know WHO is responsible for these mediocre signings, KD, Comolli or both, if so, whoever is responsible for these cr*ppy players should own up, and RESIGN now, cause they have NOT got a clue!!!

  22. Yes they need support but all the players that have been bought in have doubled their money surely that argument supports itself as liverpool fans im sure almost all of us would play for pennies and at least show some passion and commitment but these buys have had our support for almost all season and they go out and perform like they did against wigan but its ok because they won the worthless cup! No it is not ok! I agree never boycott liverpool but its getting to a point where im paying money to see them do no better than what the youths could do and expecting us to have poor result after another and the excuses of "luck" and "tiredness" are not acceptable anymore

  23. Yeah, stop playing players out of position and start using and buying pl;ayers that can play in the correct position.  Why? Simple, keeps the balance in the team.  For example, how many times have players reached the end line to put in a cross that can be attacked by Carroll.  You could count them on your hand.  Start buying and using existing resources that can play a given position.

  24. totally agree mate. ive said all along hes utter sh1t. at boro, villa, england, all average. thats whats makes me so angry this season, we've spent a shed load, for mid to bottom standard players. getting bored of hearing we need a clear out in close season. but all weve bought except enrique can go back to where they came.
