Liverpool target Junior Hoillet is available on a free transfer at the end of the season, and Anfield legend Alan Hansen believes that the 'fantastic' Blackburn midfielder could be one of the summer's most coveted players.
Hoillet put in a match-winning performance against Wolves over the weekend, scoring two goals and generally showing his class all over the pitch. Speaking on Match of the Day, Hansen was full of praise for the youngster. He enthused:
"The performance of Junior Hoillet [against Wolves] was absolutely sensational.
"Quick feet; poise, balance, and technical ability; pace, and he can hit it either side, and that's why clubs will be taking a look at him in the summer He was absolutely fantastic.
"I think he's out of contract at the end of the season, and he'll have one or two suitors I'm sure".
Bayern Munich are reportedly in pole-position to sign Hoillet in the summer, but Liverpool must surely be in with a chance? After all, we're not talking about an international superstar here.
The club has faltered in the league this season but Liverpool is still a massive step-up from Blackburn, and at the age of 22, Hoilett's development would arguably be better served by staying in the Premier League for another few years.
After the failure of expensive British players like Stewart Downing, Andy Carroll and Jordan Henderson, many Liverpool fans will be wary of splurging more money on homegrown talent, but Hoilett seems to be a cut above the aforementioned players. Or is he?
Hoilett may have scored two goals against Wolves, but prior to that, he hadn't scored for 11 games. Five goals in 27 games overall is nothing to write home about but it's still five league goals more than the infinitely more experienced Downing has achieved.
Worth a bid?

we have bigger problems than this....a deluded manager.....
ReplyDeleteKenny Dalglish has launched an impassioned defence of his record at Liverpool, claiming he should not be judged by the club's league position alone and that kit deals are as important as victories.
Its embarrassing ....how low can things get.....next he'll be justifying his position by cleaning toilets..washing kits and cooking dinner for the team
the new owners must be in shock, employ the fans choice give him £100 million then sit back easy and watch the good times roll.......time for the spanish shankley
ReplyDeleteLoves the philosophy of YNWA. some fans use it to support the team and some people dont understand what it means. One year ago KK understood the term and put his reputation on the line to come and do something to help the club out as liverpool went backwards very quickly under hodgson. Within a year he took the club from melt down to winning a cup and hoepfully going to win another. He has dominated teams but has had a problem with scoring goals, it is a problem that has been the one prominent factor throughout our season. Instead of standing by KK and hoping he gets it right, at the first opportunity, we forget where we where 1 year ago. the hope and quick fix dalglish give us in this past year has given some fans the arrogance to question why we are not callenging for the league and questioning dalglishes tactics, manegerial competence etc. All i have to say is the fans begged for him to come back, they begged for him to get an extended contract as everyone wanted him. Now that we have him, we need to give him a chance and let him do 3 years. I have sadi it before, if we can give souness 3 years, houllier 5 years and benitez 6, then we can all hold back and give KK 3. Liverpool fans should be ashamed of themselves at calling for KK's head, remember we all put him their and accepted him having a 3 year contract, so instead of being negative, get behind the team and give KK your support as when you wanted his help he answered you, now he is asking for your support, what are you going to do???
ReplyDeleteHansen should sometimes speak the truth on MOD, rather than scratching his mates' back. We deserve a bit more honesty for half a million a year paid to him from the TV license fee.
ReplyDeleteAll British pundits are too biased. Any foreign player or coach is picked on from the day one. But when it comes to British, they have different standards.
Hansen would not leave a stone unturned while criticising AVB, but suddenly looks out of the depth when it comes his mates or other famous English managers ( NO problem if you get hammered by a small European team).
Ehh? Where does the £8m come into this article?
ReplyDeleteJunior would be leaving for a nominal fee as his contract has been run down. I doubt we will recoup more than a cupla'mil tops, wonderful management eh boys?
I'd say bring back Rafa, Kenny was bought in to steady the ship which he did, but to mount a title challenge or bring Champions League back we need someone who is proven, Rafa did well if he was supported fanatically he could attract the best, and wouldn't have to wheel and deal so much and end up with his 2nd and 3rd choice signings
ReplyDeleteToo late - Phil Jones has persuaded him to go to Man U - Another summer of being out witted by Fergie
ReplyDeleteHoillet would be a good signing, he has pace and skill. I don't think he is world class, but he could develop in to great player given the chance. He may not score a lot of goals, but he would create a lot of chances and stretch teams and create more space for others.
ReplyDeleteIm a Blackburn Fan and im sorry but Hoilett is the most over rated player i the premier league, if he went to liverpool he`d be a bench warmer. He doesnt track back, gives the ball away too often and his final ball is poor. Id keep him at ewood yeah but for a `bigger` team there are far better players
ReplyDeleteSpot on! His first half showing against Aston Villa had me climbing the walls!! He has the class, if only he would play for the team!?!
ReplyDeleteWe tend to look way too far, there is Victor Moses, Diame [most underrated defensive midfielder], Junior Hoillet, but! what do we do with the dross? Any player may be good but KD will mess them up like Maxi, Shevley, Flano etc, if we lose today then wait for the excuse, for now luck, carling cup, crossbars, sponsorship? have all been used by KD..
ReplyDeleteReally well said man, Some of these "Knee-jerk" fans werent around when KK was here in the 80s so they dont have a clue what hes about, hes a winner, but it dosent happen overnight, we have battered 90% of teams this season..just missing 1 or 2 pieces of the puzzle. Have faith YNWA.
ReplyDeletePs " If you cant support us when we lose, Dont support us when we win" Bill Shankly.
Hoilett would be a great signing for you. He's dynamic and has pace, something you lack. I'd certainly like him at Spurs. Liverpool might be a better move for him though as he'd probably go straight into the 1st team.
ReplyDeletePuki Mak, this is nothing new.
ReplyDeleteYour an idiot. How can you call yourself a Liverpool supporter?
ReplyDeleteKenny has changed SO much for LFC in a year, we were facing relegation and playing the worst brand of football i have ever seen in my life under Roy. We have beleif now, we are more united as a club then in the past 3 years. We have won a trophy and we are atleast playing decent football majority of the weeks we just cant stick the ball in the back of the net. He made a couple of bad signings but they havnt been disaterous.
Kenny is bringing this club forward through a difficult period.
If your from Mali then that obviously explains why your such a nob
YNWA.
agree with 2 comments above we have to be patient. we have a really good squad that doesnt need much to be challengeing for the title. big decisions must be made in the summer dirk, adam, downing, maxi and aurellio must go and be replaced wit guys who can really add to what we've got. anyone else think kelly at right back and johnson on the wing would be good.
ReplyDeletecan you not remember the negative style we played for all of his reign. him going negative and politics over robbie keane cost us the title in 09. kenny must be given time did you think 1 summer and all would be sorted. he has a much better squad than the one he took over and i bet it will be better again for next season.
ReplyDeleteFirstly, he spent RM100 mil to buy british crabs. Second, he shows no tactical knowledge to change game in many matches. Finally, he feels so proud and content to win a cup that won by Birmingham in last season.
ReplyDeleteKenny is installing CM1 and Window 3.11 in his pentium qua core computer!!!!

ReplyDeleteKuyt has paid his 9 mil price back. Maxi and aurelio were signed on a free...adam and downing cost us 27 mil!!!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely should get this guy, think that a nominal fee has to be paid if he goes to another English team, for training costs while at Blackburn, less than a million, i think, so he is hardly a risk. Think that he could definitely step up to our level. I watched the Arsenal game, where Blackburn lost 7-1, the other week, and even though his team was getting thrashed, I thought he looked a class above all his teammates and still played well.
ReplyDeleteI think there are a few players in those teams near the bottom of the league that could do a job for us. If Wigan go down, Moses looks like he could definitely turn into a good signing, as well as McCarthy.
