£17m-rated LFC target admits: "I'm unhappy". Time for Kenny to move in...?

South American striker Lucas Barrios has seemingly fallen out of favour at Borussia Dortmund, and since Christmas, he's spent most of his time warming the bench for Jurgen Klopp's team. Liverpool have been linked with Barrios many times in the past, and the frustrated player has now given the clearest indication yet that he would be open to a move in the summer.

Barrios's role as perennial substitute for Dortmund has left him frustrated to the extent that he has now issued an ultimatum, which basically amounts to a 'play me or I will leave' threat. He told SportBild:

"Of course, I do not want to sit on the bench for a second season. That is not what being a professional footballer is about.

"I'm unhappy, but I'm waiting for my chance as a professional.

"It is difficult on the other hand for me to accept this after such a successful season."

Barrios' contract with Dortmund runs until summer 2015, but like most players, the £17.5m-rated striker wants to play games, and with a record of 45 goals in 94 games for the German club, there will be no shortage of takers.

Barrios has made it clear in the past that he would like to test himself in the Premier League, so if things continue going badly for him at Dortmund, should Liverpool take another look at him?

  8. Why would he come to Liverpool based on we have no Champions League and Poor Manager ?

I'd rather we get RID of DALGLISH and bring in Jurgen Klopp good manager and has MODERN ADVANCED IDEAS.

We will not win the LEAGUE with Dalglish I'm now convinced that we need to change manager otherwise we will slip further away from where we need to be

  9. If he's on the bench he's not in form? We need a 20 goal a season striker and we have done for 3/4 seasons, even when we had Torres. I just hope it becomes priority in the summer and we don't faff about and wait to long.

  10. We have a manager building to the future. Steve Clarke has modern tactics down pat, stop speaking crap.

  11. We aren't Chelsea, we need patience and see where we are in 18 months if we have no Champs League footy by then maybe MAYBE we look elsewhere. We have a mountain to climb and are limited in the quality we an bring in due to our falling stature in Europe The only manager bar Kenny I'd take is Rafa, with the new owners Rafa would be in heaven, he gets us and loves the club.

  13. hey man juventus was in a lot of trouble with no european football a while a go and they brought very good players, we're just making excuses for bringing British mediocre players in whom Kenny sees future in, unfortunately that's not the future most fans see, anyway the results verify everything, and they have been poor, carling cup please most teams prioritize europe and the league no wonder cardiff was the opposition in the final. As far as Keny's tactics they were better last season, or maybe he just got rid of good players and he bought well you know who he bought, at the end of the day he has no plan B, i don't remember him changing anything that made the team play better during the game, our comebacks weren't really on the cards, bad substitutions left till too late, too much trust towards newly bought players who aren't making the grade, If i was the owner i would make changes at least at the end of the season.

  14. If Kenny was the right man, he would have targeted Champions League as priority rather than Carling Cup. I don't see what progress we have made this season, last season we finished 6th and this season we are currently at 7th after spending so much money in summer. Summer dealings were so bad that i don't trust Kenny or Commolli to get us a decent player even next season, selling our best players from last season and buying mediocre replacements and all big money signings have been flop and they have overpaid for them massively.

  15. Totally agree, I stated yesterday on another JK piece that Kenny took a mediocre team after the OWL and added more mediocrity to it our defence and Suarez aside, we are an average side at the moment. BUT I believe we have a base to bring in a couple of quality signings and give certain players time to develop and a knee jerk reaction now is not good for the club.

ALSO: You can only win what you play in and beat whose put in front of you and beating a full strength Man City team over two legs is putting down the achievement of our first trophy in 6 years, I'm very proud we won it and I'm proud we have a record number of wins in the competion, winning it also makes sure we have European football next seaqson meaning we have more sway in advance to start tappin up better players for the summer, to look at the win in a negative light is beyond a joke and no true fan would.

Also we crushed Arsenal in the first half yesterday, second half we looked to play out a draw toward the end which was frustrating and we were punished by a striker who was the difference in the end between the two teams.

  16. well i think if we want to improve downing, adam, henderson, carroll and carragher should be replaced I actually I think Coates should play instead of carragher, he showed he can handle himself, so basically 3/4 quarters of all Kenny's signings, so therefore should be Kenny if we want to improve. Yep slaughtering arsenal, come on adam was losing the ball all the time in that game apart from making one or two good crosses, trying to dribble and then having no idea what to do, not passing when in advanced role to players in better positions, downing  was poor, henderson although had some decent runs, and a deflected goal still hasn't shown he should be given a first team place we were a bit unlucky but even though the team has spells of good play at the end of the day something should come out of it, and nothing does, we've been slauthered by norwich outplayed by bolton, swansea was teaching us how to play the formation we played, the arsenal game well it's just a part of the bigger picture. Btw Man city wasn't full strength with savic in defence, plus saving their players for the league, yep they were good victories never the less i admit, but europa league still is a disappointment, nice to have a cup but champions league is the thing, you can think well we're not in it for a season well maybe next but last two seasons, we didn't even come close to 4th i want to see it rosy but i can't .

  17. Pretty much agree with the above, we were crushing Arsenal but BUT the key issues were our final balls or play in and around the area Downing and Adam were so frustrating, one thing is clear Adam isn't in the clique at Liverpool and I think it affects his performances, he is amazing with set pieces but is always pushed aside by the older boys for free kicks n pens. He's a confidence player and needs to feel respected by his team mates, he hasn't been good enough true, but he rarely gets chance when we have a dangerous free kick. I didn't like our team selection yesterday totally agree Coates ahead of Carragher, plus substitutions were far to late, I get the feeling Coates was a Commolli signing rather than Kenny with his lack of playing time. Kenny needs to swallow his pride and leave Carragher on the bench.

We do need Champs League, but from a squad and player to player point of view we simply aren't as strong or technically gifted as our rivals and our league position is fair. At home our lack of ideas in the last 3rd are glaring and we struggle against organised, determined teams.

  19. Henderson is 21 and had a fantastic game vs Arsenal. Youre deluded if you think he will be going anywhere. In fact you may as well be braying at the moon for all the good it will do you.

    ReplyDelete
  20. no actually think he should stay but never ever he should be given unconditional first team spot, he should be in competition for that spot not only played to justify, god knows what he should be struggling to get past shelvey in my opinion or at least compete with him having at least one senior player in front of them two

  22. the situation with AVB could of easily of been us and may just be if we get rid of kk. What people fail to understand is that at present we are not playing that bad, we have 1 trophy and may get another, if we win the fa cup aswell we will attract bigger players as they will see liverpool as a project going forward. If we give kk the sack, who will come in? do you think we will get hiddink, pepe guardiola, or some other managers who are doing well in another league? people are coming up with some names, remember there have been many quaility manager come to the prem with a background as being the new sensation only to be humbled as they dont understand english football, AVB is just one of them. People are saying bring back rafa, how do you think he will get on if comolli is signing players and looking after the academy? hissy fit day one!!!

  23. Fantastic game against Arsenal? Did he change the game? Did he win us the game? Did he dominate the game? Did he cause Arsenal all kinds of problems?! NO. He put in one cross that led to an own goal; big deal. He has one goal and one assist in 26 league games; one game means nothing. We're in 7th place and have no chance of 4th precisely because of the abject performances of the likes of Henderson, Downing, Carroll, and to a lesser extent, Suarez (in terms of goalscoring).

What contribution did Henderson make apart from the cross for the own goal?

    ReplyDelete
  24. from what i have seen he had a decent run, and have been clear but adam at that moment decided to dribble and then well everybody knows what happened

  25. I agree with you 100% on this Jamie,I thought when Kenny came in that players would have to merit a starting place, but that’s simply not the case and Jonjo for me has done so much more for Liverpool in so few games.
Maxi has aswell been great when played but because Kenny didn’t spent loads of money on him he cant get a place in the first team.
The thing that i really cant get my head around is Raul and Maxi are more or less the reason he got the job after been amazing when he came in and look how they have been treated.
Suarez I think just needs better players around him and Gerrard when playing should not be played deep.

    ReplyDelete
  26. With Lucas injured Gerrard has to play deep when fit. Spearing does ok but lacks the class we deserve in the team.

Jonjo hasn't played enough to say he should be ahead of Henderson, I think he has great potential though and should get more game time. Henderson gets in the team to easily and as Jamie says doesn't have the impact, singling out one run Adam missed is redic he should be creating space, chances and scoring opportunities regularly throughout the game not as occasionally as he is, he needs to be more pro active rather than reactive.

Agree that Kenny favours his buys over other players to, he needs to get over that.

  29. i can say 1thing kenny trying to justify signings made by him..why sudn't you play coates instead of carra when right time play him when agger was injured??...we can't afford to play adam&spearing in asame team bcz both of them are like DM.... shelvey sud hav givn fair chances bcz honestly he z far better than henderson if you see his playing style..we sud only play downing if we started caroll otherwise he'll not gud enough 4 passing style..finally plz play gerard along side suarez where he can find      his best..

  33. no champions league next year then ???? wasnt that our main aim forget about carling and fa cup this is where the real glory is not just for money reasons but for attracting top players  ,,am sorry to say but liverpool have been unlucky with results but if we had of bought better players last summer champions league football would of been a giving ,,the reason where not in it next year is for the fact adam henderson carroll downing havent played or warranted being in a top four team,,our best player has been bellers someone who cost us nothing,,the defence have been first class all season,,suarez is a one man show up front ,,the problem is an over filled midfield with average summer buys ,,and a slow paced donkey up front,,we could of bought aguero and had 20 million left instead of carroll ,we could of just played kuyt+ maxi instead of wasting 40 million on hendo and downing and i can bet you maxi and kuyt would of scored more goals this season then them two,and we could of  spent the 40 million on a real world class player ,,,40 million is enough to prize away the best in the world something the current liverpool summer buys never will be or never have been ..

  35. Yeah those tactics are going great for us. £100 million spent and we're 3 points ahead of Fulham and Stoke and 4 points ahead of West Brom.

  36. I misread the title of this article - I wonder how long it'll be before we write "Time for Kenny to move ON?"

    ReplyDelete
  37. It should be soon, I think. No sign of progress in the league, which is what matters. The players in our team are, mainly, not good enough and have displayed their weaknesses time and again and are not showing any sign that those weakness are being addressed. We have about 4 players who should feel comfortable about their place in the team and that shows how many simply have not been up to the job. I wonder how far we have to slip down the table before people accept that the team has not moved on and the results that we got in the Carling Cup could have been achieved by any other LFC side in the last two or three seasons.

Now, we are going to need to find bargain buys to make up for the money wasted. Hoillett from Blackburn, on a free, should be a priority and someone should be on to the Russian strikers agent, at Fulham. He might be a flash in the pan but if we don't have the money to spend we are back having to take chances again.

Kenny should be made Director of Football, or an ambassador or something like that, and a new manager should be brought in during the summer. After 18 months and the amount spent, and the nightmare that has been Arsenal and Chelsea this season, we should be far, far, better than we are. If we are going to accept this, we might as well forget about Champions League for good.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Agreed. That last paragraph (sadly) reflects my feelings exactly:

"Kenny should be made Director of Football, or an ambassador or something
like that, and a new manager should be brought in during the summer.
After 18 months and the amount spent, and the nightmare that has been
Arsenal and Chelsea this season, we should be far, far, better than we
are. If we are going to accept this, we might as well forget about
    Champions League for good."
