Amid all the Suarez-Evra recrimination yesterday, the most bone-chilling comment of the day came not from Kenny Dalglish or Sir Alex Ferguson, but from Manchester United thug Wayne Rooney, who tweeted his desire to become the next Captain of the England national team.
After Man United's victory over Liverpool yesterday, Rooney tweeted:
"For everyone asking I would love to be england captain. But thats upto new manager to decide"
In what twisted, perverse universe is Rooney a credible candidate to captain the England team on a full-time basis? Rooney represents everything that is wrong with modern game, and if anyone is a 'disgrace to football', it is him.
Rooney has proved time and time again that he has no concept of sportsmanship, class, humility or fair play, and he was at it again at Old Trafford yesterday, immediately in the referee's face after Suarez kicked the ball away, complaining and (probably) exhorting the ref to produce a yellow card.
Rooney has a long history of negative behaviour that has (arguably) damaged the reputation of British football, including:
* Endlessly and feigning injury. Rooney once claimed: "I'd never dive. I’d like to think of myself as an honest player. That’s the way I play. I don’t like diving, football doesn’t need it.” What a hypocrite. The post contains videos of at least 8 of Rooney's blatant dives.
* Incidentally, Rooney was up to his old tricks against Liverpool yesterday when he theatrically dived to the ground after a tame challenge from Steven Gerrard.
* Another example of his gross lack of sportsmanship came in United's recent game with Man City, when he was in the referee's face arguing for Vincent Kompany to be sent off.
* Rooney has been booked TWICE for diving in the past, and he even admitted diving once, as Alex Ferguson confirmed: "He apologised to me and said he didn't mean to do that. I think he's been watching Robert Pires too much. At least he apologised to their players. You'd never see Pires do that."
* Rooney is England's most red-carded player, and cannot be trusted to behave properly in high-pressure situations, i.e. World or European tournaments.
And then there other things like how he disrespected United in 2010 when he tried to leave (which prompted Ferguson to respond that he was 'shocked' and 'disappointed'); or his three match ban for elbowing a Porto player; or how he publicly contradicted Ferguson over an ankle injury, and the list goes on and on.
Appointing Rooney as the new England captain would be a national embarrassment in my view, but given the irretrievable incompetence of the FA, it will probably end up happening.

And the alternative is Gerrard?....great(!)
ReplyDeletethe rest of Rooney's tweet, which you missed off, was that his personal choice would be Stevee Gee
ReplyDeleteyou idiot, you stupid stupid stupid idiot, you idioitic page hit seeker, the actual twitter post was "
ReplyDeleteFor everyone asking, I would love to be England captain. But that's up to new manager to decide. Gerrard is perfect choice for me," " how irresponsible of a person are you to leave out the last line. once again youre an idiot!!!!!!!!
You're obsessed with Rooney. It's bizarre. At least Rooney doesn't batter people in bars because they refuse to play the song he wants. Rooney would be a far better option than that thug Gerrard, who does all the things on the pitch you accuse Rooney of. Massive diver and guilty of "poor sportsmanship" as you call it. Remember when he got Hibbert sent off: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfHjqDOuflM
ReplyDeleteJaimie, u r a cunt
ReplyDeleteSuch a bitter article. Look at you own set of players. Bunch scumbags.
ReplyDeleteRooney a far better option than Gerrard? You're having a laugh. Rooney is a thug, a cheat, and money-grabbing mercenary with no loyalty to Man United whatsoever.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about Gerrard diving - As you know, I have highlighted it on this site many many times. You're free to post on your site highlighting it if you like; makes no difference to me.
Rooney is blight on the English game, and I will keep highlighting it as often as I can, as is my right.
after all he has done LOL terrys done less
ReplyDeletegetting involved in a nightclub brawl with a dj is befitting of an england captain....
ReplyDeletewhat a surprise!!
ReplyDeletethis site doesn't cover suarez's apology. Or more pertinently, SUAREZ's LIES!!!
Yesterday he's claiming all is not as it seems in regards to the game.... then today he apologies to Kenny and the club, once again NOT to Evra. He's a crass individual with the morals of a sewer rat.
I thought Liverpool was a great club, but after this incident, that image is in tatters.
as a man utd fan, i agree, he's a disgraceful human being and shouldn't be England captain, but don't you think you should pay more attention to the behaviour of your own players?
ReplyDeleteBlindly defending the indefensible. Failing to apologise to an individual who's been racially abused. That's far worse than what Rooney has ever done IMO, as it's a criminal offence which can carry a custodial sentence
mate, you're a legend! i love your site.
ReplyDeletei wouldn't bother posting on this site as any valid comment you make is deleted by the author.
ReplyDeleteWHERE ARE YOUR ARTICLES ON SUAREZ'S LIES?????
Yes at leadt hes not carrying a ban for a stupid red card where he lost an easy ball to a defender!!!!!
ReplyDelete1. Thug - Did you not watch the footage of Gerrard battering that DJ? What has Rooney done which even compares with that thuggery? Please give me an example. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQTiFnqOyGI
ReplyDelete2. Cheat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVb2gbMtN3I
3. Money grabbing mercenary - how many transfer requests has Gerrard handed it at LFC before getting a new massive contract? Rooney is an Evertonian. Gerrard is meant to be LFC through and through but for some reason you think Rooney should be more loyal to United than Gerrard should be to LFC?
Honestly, you have more or less described Gerrard in this article... except it's a watered down version when talking about Rooney.
Kkk - None of what you've described applies to me:
ReplyDelete* I have not blindly defended Suarez ever. Before LFC signed him, I wrote a post arguing that Liverpool shouldn't sign him: http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2010/12/luis-suarez-10-reasons-why-lfc-should.html
* After Liverpool did sign him, I protested by not writing on the site for 9 months.
* During the Evra-Suarez saga, I have always agreed that Suarez deserved an 8 game ban.
* I also posted an article highlighting how Evra had NOT made false accusations in the past: http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2011/12/debunking-lfc-myths-no-11-patrice-evra.html
I have also repeatedly highlighted the diving of Liverpool's own players, including Gerrard:
http://www.liverpool-kop.com/2008/04/rafa-slams-drogba-for-diving-but-steven.html
Football is bigger than just one team or player.
Kkk - you clearly have no idea what this site is all about. Did I not condemn Suarez and Dalglish's behaviour yesterday? Yes, I did. Additionally, the Suarez apology only happened a couple of hours ago; give me some friggin' time to respond! I'm not going to just churn something out like every other site - I'll let it settle first and then address the issue.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the hookers.... Some role model...
ReplyDeleteRemind me - was Gerrard convicted of a crime?
ReplyDeleteScott - Gerrard has nothing to do with this. I'm not talking about him, I'm talking about Rooney. What you're saying about Gerrard is right to a degree, and I have highlighted each and every one of those issues on this site in the past.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that Gerrard has a chequered history doesn't change the fact that Rooney is selfish, money-grabbing mercenary with no concept of sportsmanship or fair play.
If you feel so aggrieved, why don't you write something about Gerrard on your site?
Thought you were better than this - you've a good blog a lot of the time. The full story is that Rooney actually wants Gerrard to be the captain.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17001056
he wasn't, but are you suggesting he didn't punch someone?
ReplyDeletemy apologies i wasn't clear, i did mean it in the general sense. it makes my blood boil when.
ReplyDeletewhen addressing the apologies can you incorporate the following article which i believe to be the sole purpose behind the apology.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/12/sports/soccer/liverpools-luis-suarez-refuses-to-shake-the-hand-of-uniteds-patrice-evra.html?_r=2&src=tp
i do have respect for you despite the battering i might give you as you are prepare to see the bigger picture and speak at times the truth despite it going against the idiotic fans who blindly defend people
Not at all, but the fact is he wasn't convicted.
ReplyDeleteHow can a Pr%$# like Rooney Captain the English Football Team. This is the twit that cheated on his wife with a Whore when she was pregnant with child. The FA is in shambles right now. this will put the icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteFools . He was discharged of all offences. You got it all wrong pal
ReplyDeleteAgreed. WR sleeps with whores, RG whores his sister in law and we have another candidate for England captain who is a drug addict( I forgot my appointment). Pathetic.
ReplyDeleteThe crass individual is Evra. The man who walked out on his Country at the World cup.
ReplyDeleteHey a sewer rat does whatever it does for survival. It would be unfair to compare it to Suarez's actions.
ReplyDeleteTony Adams was sent to prison but was still Arsenal captain and England captain!
ReplyDeleteRooney talking about the captaincy when he his banned for 2 games in the Euro's! Should wait till after the Euro's and what happens to England's chances which he has severely hit with him being banned.
ReplyDeleteGerrard and Rooney are friends I don't know what fans are arguing about, they will respect who ever is made captain.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=p_GhFB-A4y0
ReplyDeleteRooney the THUG!
Rooney's swearing at the camera, Rooney applauding the Ref after being booked Rooney throwing the ball at the ref Rooney this Rooney that !
ReplyDeleteIf Rooney does sort his temperament out he would make a great England captain has he is a great footballer.
What on earth?? Rooney isn't even going to be playing in the first 2 games, how is he going to be captain? And why is he not playing in those first 2 games? No idea what you're smoking but it seems effective.
ReplyDeleteIt does have something to do with Gerrard though because Rooney actually said that he thought Gerrard should be captain. For whatever reason, you chose to not include that in the quote above.
ReplyDeleteGerrard is a selfish, money-grabbing mercenary with no concept of sportsmanship or fair play. Why write an article focussing on Rooney when Gerrard, as shown through his battering of DJs, diving and getting people sent off, is far worse. You're ok with having a cheating mercenary thug as the captain of your club but don't want Rooney as captain of England? Why?
Out of interest, did you ever write a retraction after your scandalous article on Evra, falsely claiming he feigned injury, so therefore probably lied about what Suarez said to him? Your club is well and truly in the dirt. I'd worry more about the fact LFC are now a laughing stock and total disgrace than who captains England, if I were you.
nope, no battery, just the occasional granny fiddle
ReplyDeleteDoesn't stop Joe Hart from being the best option.
ReplyDeleteThat rationale makes Suarez class. He got himself sent off while doublehandedly preventing Ghana from scoring, sending his country into the semi-finals at the World Cup.
ReplyDeleteAs an MUFC fan I don't think Rooney or Gerrard should be captain. Scott Parker, Joe Hart, or in my head Paul Scholes purely for the Euros if he'd do it.
ReplyDeleteScott Parker for me, someone who doesn't ever seem to have any baggage attached to him. Rooney is not reliable enough to ever be captain of the England team, unless people think that being captain would make him more responsible, but that seems a big risk to me.
ReplyDeleteBad journalist! Pathetic! Rooney said Gerrard should be captain , to get hits you left out the last line, while you must have clearly read. How pathetic are you?
ReplyDeletewhy didnt you put the full quote?
ReplyDeleteright after it he said "gerrard is the perfect choice"
Why should I? It's irrelevant. Does it change the fact that Rooney expresses interest in the captain's job? No.
ReplyDeleteSent from iPhone
pathetic
ReplyDeleteAhh touché Jaimie, I like that argument that is very good. Have you ever considered the negation and substitute Gerrard for Suarez? You've continually posted that Suarez is innocent, but he was found guilty unfairly. Well, that is the negation of Gerrard's incident. We all know he was guilty, but he was found innocent unfairly.
ReplyDeleteInteresting huh? Nice to see a bit of objectivity from you.
Look, Jaimie, I've read what Rooney said and to be honest, you can't even gauge the context. At the end of the day, Rooney wouldn't be a good captain. Gerrard wouldn't be a good captain. Terry wouldn't be a good captain. There's a lot of non-captain material in that England squad and unfortunately, I don't see a natural leader. One of the best natural born leaders who is English plays for my team Stoke, and that is Ryan Shawcross. He leads the team by example. Ignoring the incident with Ramsey which has totally destroyed peoples opinion of him (unfairly tbh) he has an absolutely perfect record. He doesn't go out get pissed and into fights like Gerrard, sleeping with grannies like Rooney, he doesn't cheat or feign injury, he's very sporting (i've seen him put the ball out of play for an injury to opposition more than once recently, you don't even have to anymore), he doesn't do imaginary card waving and he leads by example. Unfortunately, his growing reputation was destroyed by the Arsenal scum who made him out to be a complete axe murderer.
ReplyDeleteIf you persist in deliberately misquoting me I will ban you. This is ridiculously wrong:
ReplyDelete"You've continually posted that Suarez is innocent"
Show me evidence of where I've ever posted that Suarez was innocent. Be truthful, or don't bother posting at all. From day 1, I have blasted Suarez for what he did. I have always maintained he was guilty of using the word 'negro' in relation to Evra. I've also argued that much of the FA's findings of fact were unproven, which is an irrefutable fact.
That is not arguing that Suarez is innocent at all, it is arguing that certain things were not proven.
I see. I didn't realize Liverpool was the new North Korea. I understand that your opinion is worth more than everyone else's and spouting your self opinionated bile is acceptable but I've read your articles and I know what you're about. I read the one you wrote about Denis Smith, a bloke with a lot more integrity than Kenny Dalglish and you accused him of 'potentially' being biased against Suarez due to some comment he made about Alex Ferguson. I thought that was low. I made my feelings known and you removed my comment. Seems like you'll do the same now. It's okay to comment so long as you agree with it right?
ReplyDeleteStrange how you didn't post up my reply, hmm ?
