LFC Legend: There is 'no way' will Liverpool do what Alex Ferguson wants...

Predictably, today's newspapers are filled with cynical, scaremongering headlines about how Liverpool will now be forced to sell star striker Luis Suarez. However, Anfield legend Alan Hansen - a close friend of Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish - has strongly dismissed suggestions that the Uruguayan is heading for the Anfield exit.

In an unprecedented display of public contrition, both Suarez and Dalglish apologised for their behaviour yesterday, and Managing Director Ian Ayre also entered the fray, blasting Suarez for apparently 'misleading' the club over his intention to shake Patrice Evra's hand.

Hansen, who labelled Suarez's Evra snub as 'unacceptable' on Saturday night, has now called for everyone to get back to 'concentrating on football', and strongly refuted Sir Alex Ferguson's contention that Liverpool should 'get rid' of Suarez. He told The Telegraph:

"He [Suarez] is such a good player, one who brings so much quality to the Liverpool team, that there is no way that the club will get rid of him.

"Suárez now has to make sure that, from this point on, we are only talking about his football and the good things he brings to Liverpool and the Premier League.

"What happened this weekend has brought an unwanted spotlight on Suárez and Liverpool, but it really is time to move on".

It's well known that Hansen is Dalglish's conduit to the Press, and the insistence that Liverpool will not sell Suarez has probably come direct from Dalglish himself.

I'm sure Kenny probably wanted to respond directly to Ferguson, but given the sensitive nature of the issue, decided to go through Hansen instead.

Whether Suarez will want to stay is, however, another matter...

  2. JK I know you keep wondering why Kenny treats the media with such contempt.

But the fact of the matter is, the press have not dedicated as much time reporting on the 90 minutes of football ACTUALLY played, but the 5 seconds of "missed handshakes" that preceded it.

I have a feeling Kenny is old school, and likes to keep it that way. His answers to the press are sort of what I'd like to call a "re-education" to how a football press conference should be conducted - with questions related to FOOTBALL.

  3. Where are all the filth from yesterday that tried to say Evra withdrew his hand? You have all crawled back under the rocks where you belong! I saw the cleaners at OT disinfecting the seats at away end! There is not a big enough bucket to disinfect liverpool!

  4. Just when it seems we are ready to renew chasing success with a fresh and new shape, something wrong happens again. We had so much funds available in the 2010-2011 January transfer window, but spent half of it on flops and another half on a player who looks set to cause trouble every time he's on the pitch. Depressing.

  5. Do you think the club should sell him? I know you said the club shouldn't have bought him in the first place. I think if we can get 30mill for him I would take it. He may be a great footballer but he ain't worth the trouble. The modern game is about so much more than just what goes on the pitch. And this guy has damaged the world wide Liverpool brand so badly and he only been at the Club for a year! Imagine what he could do in the next 4 years...He and Kenny both brought the club in disrepute this weekend.

  7. Suarez will realise that YNWA is not just for show but we at liverpool live by it. LFC has stood by him all along.

  8. If I was Suarez, I would leave the EPL and never look back.

Sadly, I think this is what is going to happen, he's young, his name has been stained and tarnished by Manchester United, Evra and the Press.

Here is hoping Suarez keeps his chin up, gets focused on football and getting Liverpool up into the top 4, he needs to keep calm and be the bigger man in this whole saga.

  11. I hate to say but you have to believe Fergi achieved a victory ON and OFF the field against Liverpool.

Liverpool need to build its muscles ON and OFF the field to knock ManU off the perch!

  12. shouldn't fergie have kicked Roy Keane out for ending a players career (alf inge haaland), or Cantona for his assault on a Palace fan? But no, he thinks Suarez should be kicked out for not shaking hands!

  14. If Milan try to sell Pato again (they did try, to make room for Tevez) to make way for another striker, I reckon they could and should go for Suarez.

I can't be bothered with Suarez anymore. He has gone way down in my opinion. Surely, we aren't that desperate for a hero that we need someone like Suarez to stay, someone who has done what he has done. Disgrace. For the sake of the club, I hope he doesn't bring our club into anymore mess.

  15. Stupid comment " he's such a good player there' s no way the club will get rid of him " I don't think they should get rid of him , but that comment makes it sound like he could do what he wants cos he's such a good player . He can't . Time to move on now tho , the fella made a mistake got banned for it , and to be fair he was a bit of a wally on sat , but that's all he was . But it sells papers so we will have hear people go on and on about it till the next thing comes along . Fergie should know better than to make his stupid comment as well , I mean his team is full of saints isn't Ryan ( ask his brother ) Wayne ( ask his granny , well someone's granny ) Rio ( ask his drug tester ) , or old timers like Keane ( ask Alfie Inga , or anyone actually ) King Eric , Bob the ticket tout , sorry Sir Bob the ticket tout , moral giants all of them , people in glass houses etc

  16. Good grief? Suarez has proven this week that he is a liar. As his employer's representative (Ian Ayre) said, " he 'misled' the club..." (a polite way of saying lied).
He lied to his employer & his immediate boss (Dalglish). If he does that then he's not above lying to the fans and he certainly wouldn't think twice (four times, as it reads in the FA report) about lying to the FA.
Whisky nose is bang on. The guy should never play for us again. What does he have to do before you see him for what he is - stab Gerrard on the pitch???
He needs to be sold in the summer, because we'll get nothing for him if he get a lifetime ban next time.

  17. Yeah it was Evra that made him bite that player in Holland! His spotless reputation that had this sites host stop writing for the best part of a year. Yeah it's all Manchester Uniteds fault?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Personally I think he was wrong to tell the club he would shake, and then not shake. That's about it really, we'll never know the truth with the racism incident, but we definitely know that Evra lied (10 times an 7 times etc). But I have to be honest, mountain/molehill spring to mind. Its an insincere act at the beginning of a game that was made an issue of when Terry and Ferdinand refused, and Bridge refused with Terry, didn't see Terry cry to the camera though eh? Players dive, spit, injure each other, wave cards etc AFTER the handshake, but no handhake an there's uproar. I can't believe how many people are bothered. I'm more concerned with what's for tea. I'd have put them both in a room an left them to it. Does anyone else think it all just seems a bit childish and girly? I think Suarez, Evra, LFC, MUfC, the FA, the Premier League and also the media look bad. It's pathetic.

    ReplyDelete
  19. 'we definitely know that Evra lied (10 times and 7 times etc).'

He could easily cry 'figure of speech', which is a valid excuse I'm afraid, in my view.

But Liverpool counsel had a few things he could have really attacked on but failed to do so. Odd, the whole investigation, to say the least. But enough is enough.

Upset and sad with the way Liverpool and Suarez acted throughout this whole thing. I don't care about the PL, the mancs, the media, the FA, etc, I just care about my club and what it does. What it did do was be unprofessional and inflammatory from start to finish.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Not only will Suarez stay he will continue to light up the Premier League with his skills. No excuses but these Genius Players always seem to have flawed temperament. From George Best through to Gazza, Tevez, and now Luis Suarez. I think the FA should look into Fergies post match comments does anyboby agree

    ReplyDelete
  21. So what if suarez didn't shake a scumbags hand, who played it up for the camera's imo. Its a hand shake, if ferdinand the clown didn't get in evra's way in he first few minutes he would of took suarez out off it, he nearly broke his own players neck ha. All you people want Suarez gone will quickly forget if he scores the winner in the final in 2 weeks!

    ReplyDelete
  22. You all do realise that Ferguson would be delighted if Suarez stays at Liverpool? There's more to 'mindgames' than calling Ferguson 'rednose'. Look at Suarez' stats and the baggage that goes with it and try and figure it out for yourselves.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Manchester Utd's history is hardly squeaky clean. You all backed Cantona to a man. Perhaps trying to take a member of the publics face off with your studs is less of a crime than not shaking a man's hand

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's a shame that the media have concentrated all their efforts on the 'handshake' and not the two people who should have received their plaudits for what happened on the pitch.

Firstly, I would like to congratulate Phil Dowd & his Assistants for controlling a match which could easily have exploded. If you look at all the video clips you can see that Mr Dowd's concentration on the 'shakes' and the celebrations after the match were exemplary. I am ashamed to say that I thought he may have favoured Manchester United. He was even handed throughout.

Secondly, I must also congratulate Wayne Rooney for the way he dispatched his two goals. Not what I wanted to see but he was the difference.

Finally, I believe it's wrong to require players to participate in the farce of  pre-match handshakes. The FA cancelled this silly sham for the Chelsea v QPR match and it should have been abolished completely. In this era where so many new stadia have built separate tunnels should have been built for teams to emerge unto the pitch and also a separate entrance for match officials. Football today is a gladiatorial event and I feel the FA (once again) missed an opportunity to remove interfaces of possible conflict from the proceedings.

Players should be encouraged to shake hands and apologise for excesses on completion of the contest - but not forced.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Fungusface new exactly what he was doing when he took Evra to the match officials room after the initial incident. I would never address the man as 'sir',he is just one hatred filled man! certainly in respect to LFC!

  26. The thing that really annoys me about this whole situation is I think the majority of people fighting on both sides are not fighting because of their concern for racism, their fighting because its one rivals chance to 1 up the other. How many of these journalists ant people commenting actually really care about whether there is a racism problem? Its no coincidence that the majority of people leading the fight against Suarez are Man Utd fans who could hardly give a hoot over John Terry's incident, unless maybe when the teams play each other.

And im not just blaming utd fans because I believe whatever teams are playing the results would be the same.I have said it before previous times. that I don't believe there's a racism problem in football there is a racism problem in society and people. As for Luis Suarez he seems to be a player who attracts controversy wherever he goes. Whether or not he is racist only he knows. Would I get rid of him? No many of the most successful teams have players like this, Including a certain player who has alerted the world to the benefits a granny can have on ones performances on the pitch or swears to a camera with thousands of children watching. And they still back him like their hero.

    ReplyDelete
  27.  I have to laugh at these utd comments about the suarez handshake. Do
you not remember after keane and viera had a bust up in the tunnels a
few years ago, numerous (not one) utd players refused to shake vieras
hand. Do you also forget Ferdinand failing to turn up for his drugs
test, Keane ending Haalands career, Cantona kicking a fan, Giggs with
his brothers wife, Tommy Doherty and the physios wife, Rooney, well the
less said the better, your a disgrace of a club, but heh its ok because
your utd, pure and utter filth.

    ReplyDelete
  28. You're rewriting history here - Utd banned Cantona for 6 months before any action was taken by the FA, no supporter said that Cantona should not be punished (I don't think Cantona himself thought that he should not be punished). Ferguson blamed the Cantona incident for Utd losing the league that year (to Dalglish's Blackburn).

Ferguson did back Cantona in wanting him to come back after the ban and reform himself so that he would no longer be the trouble maker but the team leader. This worked (I think Cantona was only booked once more in the rest of his career). Can Dalglish and Suarez do the same? The first thing to do is to acknowledge mistakes. Dalglish could have done this back in October by getting Suarez to issue an apology (including that cultural misunderstanding was a large part of what happened), dropping Suarez for one or two games and the whole thing would more or likely have blown over with an acceptance of the apology from Utd and likely a 3 or 4 match ban from the FA.

Now that the US media's picked up on it, the Americans get on the phone and you have Ayre, Dalglish and Suarez jumping into line.

  29. You forgot to mention that Hitler was a Man Utd fan.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Best way Suarez can shut his critics is with his football, he needs to concentrate on scoring goals for Liverpool and helping the team qualify for Champions league.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Now that LFC are off their perch Ferguson is not as pre-occupied with them as many Liverpool fans seem to believe.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I thought KKs strength was his manmanagemenet skills.I know Evra is a despicable man and he was trying to goad Suarez into saying something at the end to get him banned for life,i just feel Dalglish hasnt got a clue how to handle players from a different culture.Hes ok with British players, hes good at taking Carroll to concerts to help settle him in.Suarez himself said he doesnt understand KK at all so just gets on with it himself. This season is a fiasco, all the money spent on players who arent upto it,Enrique now is beginning to look suspect to me and apart from Suarez he looked the only other good buy.I really feel for Suarez he came up against Evra and Evra started to insult Louis so Louis give a bit back and suddenly this once great club is now on its knees through no fault of Louis.AF and Evra get away with what they want to do or say, constantly going on about Suarez how he dives, how hes racist how he shouldnt play for LFC again, then KK apaologises to them how humiliating,KK has lost the plot man utd have well and truely humiliated us and KK has played into AF hands by apologising. What if Evra did lie,he is no angel hasnt Louis got a right to be upset all the abuse hes taken and refuse his hand, why should we now bow down to man utd.One thing Rafa never did was ever bow down to man utd,im afraid the prem jobs are going to be coming up at the end of the season,Spurs, chelsea, arsenal maybe, and i think it would be unforgivable if we lose Rafa to one of these clubs,Rafa is our only hope now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. erm Haaland retired because of a leg problem, yes, but Keane assaulted the other leg.

    ReplyDelete
  34. only the paranoid nutters amongst us bother with the stuff nowadays. Ferguson is out to get us, Evra planned it all, did you see him move his hand away from Suarez, etc, etc, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Not worth arguing with such brainless nonsense.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Pathetic, considering Suarez never looks like he is ever going to shake hands, i doubt a slight hand movement would have stopped him.

Your comment is pathetic, the club has apologised, the entire football world has declared our club's antics a disgrace, the player has apologised, and admitted he did wrong, the manager has apologised, and some people are still defending what went on? And then you use words like FACT, CLEAR and, most worrying of all, DWEEB?

    ReplyDelete
  37. And you would think Suarez shouldn't be kicked out if he killed someone. This, initially, was not about shaking hands, it was about abuse. We got the line that no abuse took place, although no one appealed and the case was reviewed fairly thoroughly. We then are meant to believe that it was a misunderstanding. Then, Suarez does an interview and says 'what happens on the pitch should stay on the pitch' and promises his manager he will shake hands and then does not do so. He's shown that he is not averse to spinning a yarn, but everyone still wants to believe everything he says.

It's shameful that he has been found guilty of something like this and refuses to take it seriously. He has never showed any remorse and he could have said something which was a denial but also recognition of how serious this was but he never has.

    ReplyDelete
  38. You definitely know nothing of the sort. And the relevence of the handshake is not important, it is the idea of a player accused of racially abusing something, not being a racist, refusing to shake someone's hand for the good of the game, his manager and his club. If you cannot see the significance of that, then you do not completely understand the game.

And whenever someone does something wrong, do you bring up everyone else who has done something wrong? What's with Ferguson, Keane, Cantona, songs that the supporters sing, etc, have to do with this. Sick of hearing about Roy Keane and Cantona in relation to this!

Funny enough, Suarez's behaviour on saturday is as questionable as the 'banter' last year. He's going to be tested this season and from what i see of his character, doubt he will be up to the test.

    ReplyDelete
  39. No we won't Chris, because we are not all so desperate to win a football match no matter the cost to morals.

    ReplyDelete
  40. If the member of the public is shouting abuse, maybe it is. But you do not seem to be able to differentiate between the abuser and the abused, do you? People had some respect for Cantona because they could see what the supporter was doing. Seeing as it seems to be the type of abuse that you support, I'm not surprised you cannot tell the difference between attacking a foul mouthed idiot who is abusing you and shaking hands with someone that you abused yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Blimey, Keane, Cantona, etc, etc, deflect, deluded!

    ReplyDelete
  42. You know that? So, tell me, what did they say initially before Evra reported Suarez? You seem to have inside information, as well as being a handshake expert and a mind reader. Your whole post is so full of agendas, including the usual bring Rafa back, it is embarrassing. When someone asks you if you want sugar in your tea, does it end up coming back to Benitez and how despicable Evra is? I suppose that would be white sugar for you, then?

    ReplyDelete
  43. some of the apologists on here are hilarious. If I'd been accused of bigotry I would try to clear my name, not snipe at the person continually without going through the proper channels. If i felt that i was harshly dealt with, i would try to make a statement confirming this, try to clear my name and also try to recognise the seriousness of the accusation. Suarez has never done this, he has gone into self pity mode half the time and the rest of the time he has refused to accept that he has done anything wrong or that the charges were even that serious. He's had the entire club dancing to his tune and made a fool out of his manager and his teammates. The t shirt episode was totally embarrassing in how the other players were pandering to his ego. To see so many supporters doing it is no surprise, but they are supporting the man not the team.

    ReplyDelete
  44. It will take good time for Suarez to mend back his reputattion if you can not tame your self how can others tame you

    ReplyDelete
  45. If you,Phaaz, are able to look back as far as I can,to when Man Utd first won the European cup - I can tell you that most fans in England were right behind them, including Liverpool people! As for myself,I cried my eyes out because of the Munich disaster! Maybe you can now understand why,I,like a lot of others abhor Ferguson because he has been the cause of a lot the hatred between the two clubs! The first thing he did'n't like was LFC defeating his Aberdeen.Silly man.
    I await your reply!

  46. Suarez didnt use any swear word like JT,he was talking in Spanish,Evra insulted Luis by saying dont touch me you south american and giving a disgusting expression as he said it as though South Americans are the lowest of the low.So Luis being the patriotic guy he is just simply said well your black,in Spanish, the thing is they took the Spanish word for black and made it into a taboo word in english.Evras total hatred for South americans i believe was the catalyst,as even Evra thought Luis was saying something entirely different to start off with. Like i say we dont have a problem with caste systems and our rightful place in the line, but a lot of other countries do,and some races see themselves as superior to others. And regards the sugar thing, some people cannot see a priest on a mountain of sugar, fact.

  51. 1. I dont understand the significance? I think if my name was dragged through the mud and I was found guilty on the balance of probability I would not shake hands, screw the significance.

    2. I'm bringing up other people who have done something wrong in response to Fergie saying that Luis should never play for Liverpool again, what has he said that for? He was tolerant of his own players. How is that not relevant?

    3. I think I understand the game thoroughly and a lot of people would agree, quite how your response stands up to what I wrote I don't understand, just because our views are different it doesn't mean I don't understand the game.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I agree with Alanable and your statement Benko15 is a perfect example.
Who did what in the past is not relevant to this. Suarez DID racially abuse Evra - READ the report, SUAREZ's bosses backed Evra's story and a team mate (Kuyt) backed Evra's story.
    "Why did you kick me?"
    a - "Because you're a nigger."
    b - "Because you're black."
ARE YOU THAT FUCKIN' STUPID THAT YOU CANNOT SEE THE POINT OF THOSE TWO SENTENCES??? What difference does it make whether he said black or nigger???
YOU and the seemingly thousands of fans think that because Evra's a Man U player that it is okay to abuse him and that he is lying without question.
I've been a Liverpool fan for over 40 years and your attitude disgusts me.
It's 16 years since Bob Paisley passed away today. He would be spinning in his grave to think our club is being branded a racist club.
Not only does this situation impact on potential sponsorship deals it also WILL have a huge impact on transfers, because there WILL be targets that will now not be interested in signing for us ever.
Suarez HAS to go. I'd bet my mortgage that J.W. has said the same and IT WILL HAPPEN in the summer.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I think we should sell him, though who is going to take him for £30m. If we get £15m, I would say sell him. Looking back at the season, I am starting to feel that while he looks good on the ball, our over-reliance on him has meant the rest of the team has failed to consolidate. He should be benched for the season, sold for cheap, and lets see what our over-priced under-achievers can do. To be honest, I would rather miss out on 4th with a team of youngsters learning their way, than get 4th with a taste of dishonour in the mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  54. the problem with constantly chirping that the world is against us, is that we dont see when we have become irrelevant. No-one really cares if its LFC or Wolves or QPR who are embroiled in a racist spat. When you f*ck up, you apologise and move on. If Evra did move his hand (which is clutching at straws) Suarez could very easily have made a show of reaching for his hand, he could have looked at him, he could have patted him on the shoulder ... there are many ways to show professionalism and self-respect. Crying victim-hood is childish, and if I were any other league team I would be pissed off. What right do we (LFC) have to claim persucution, a right to 4th, to claim that Spurs are only pretenders etc. We havn't won the league (or even really be compettitive) in twenty years.
