Expert claims Argentina star will 'sign for Liverpool' in the summer..

South America football expert Jose Alberti claims that Napoli Striker Ezequiel Lavezzi will be a Liverpool player next season.

In an interview with Radio CalcioMercato last week, Alberti - who is often mistaken to be Lavezzi's Agent - said:

"Ezequiel Lavezzi will definitely will leave Naples at the end of the season, but he will not go to Italy; He will move to England and sign for Liverpool".

That is quite an emphatic claim, but given Alberti's contacts in the football world, it's conceivable that he has some inside info on the issue. He also claimed that Manchester City failed with a recent bid to sign the striker:

"Two years ago Manchester City made an offer for him but it was not enough".

It's unclear whether Alberti meant the transfer fee or the salary figure wasn't enough, but based on his next comments, it's probable that the salary City offered wasn't enough for Lavezzi:

"When Lavezzi discovers that Cambiasso and other players earn much more of him, it is normal to want a change. He's doing very well for Napoli, but he is 27 years old and it is time for a change"

Liverpool's interest in Lavezzi is well documented. In 2009, Rafa Benitez tried to sign the Argentinean as a striker partner for Fernando Torres, and this was confirmed by Alejandro Mazzoni, Lavezzi's Agent, who told The Telegraph:

"I reiterate that a Fifa agent presented Napoli with an offer from Liverpool for Lavezzi. This was a formal procedure as the player cannot be contacted directly because he is under contract with Napoli"

Lavezzi at Liverpool? Yes please!

  1. i doubt it! why would he sign for a club not in Europe at this stage of his career, it's just a friend of his using LFC's name to make it clear he is looking for a move.

  2. Would love lavezzi but doubt we will be able to afford him over City who will definatley be interested once Tevez leaves in the summer!

  3. I really hope it's true, because he is the type of player that would fit a 4-3-3 system perfectly, especially with Suarez and a deadly finishing centre forward.

We just then need another centre forward for competition for places ...

Our attacking options could look like this ...

    WF// Suarez/Lavezzi/Bellamy/Maxi (Sterling/Silva)
    CF// Carroll/????/Kuyt (Ngoo/Morgan)

    ???? - maybe Teixeira?/Huntelaar?/De Jong?/Wolfswinkel?/Higuain?

  5. Great player but always wary of a player at his age moving to the prem. Totally agree wit your 4-3-3. Think we should play that way for the rest of the season, suarez- carroll- downing/or maybe stevie? Missing a ball playing midfielder, hendo more central and stevie on the right?

  9.  well this would be a great signing and since Fenway are apparently in damage control with the Red Sox having a flop season I think they will invest whatever is necessary to get Liverpool back in the top 4 next season... the 'expert' sounds sure enough anyway

  15. Signing Tevez or Lavezzi would be a very clear signal about how Dalglish wants the team to play, and it's got early Rafa and Mourinho stamped all over. I was going to wait for the opportunity to critique the way we build up our play, but with this rumour and the one about Tevez in the January window, it looks like it is deliberate.

Manure typically destroys teams these days by hogging the ball in the middle of the pitch and moving quickly in the final third. I've noticed we move the ball out of the midfield very quickly and then hog possession in our opponents' final third. This was a strategy Manure also used in 08-09 when they had Ronaldo and played for free kicks. It's also exactly the tactic Rafa favoured in 07-08. It is not a style that gives you many goals at all, but we did have Torres banging them in for fun from the very limited counters we had. Back then, he had the pace to make it count. It keeps the ball away from your end and forces the other team to sit deep. Unless all our forwards play like Suarez or Lampard, we're going to have to get very lucky from open play to score at all, unless we make our counter attacks start to count, which they haven't. Or are we banking on one of our free kick gurus to get one in? Were Kenny and Comolli hoping Carroll would start playing like Drogba?

Lavezzi is very similar stylistically to Suarez and Tevez. Not the fastest player, but a great dribbler who refuses to give up and has phenomenal balance. These are players who specialise in playing in tight spaces, very much like Beardsley. It is worrisome to me as it signifies a move towards 1-0 football. Dalglish once asked 'Jose who?' in his weekly column, but as we are now familiar with, whenever Dalglish feigns ignorance, he certainly is thinking about it. That we've got Steve Clarke on the coaching team and the 2nd best defence in the league, the signs are all in place.

  16. Problem there is that Fenway are now having the Redsox moan bitterly that they are not getting enough. It is beginning to show that the 2 different sports are going to cause much friction. Fenway will probably favour more their American outlet over the UK one.

  19. All this speculation is a waste of time only time will tell if KD has learnt his mistake and not reliant on overrated and over payed players and make some practical signings who can take the club to another level and this depends on whether we make Europe fingers crossed with the games we have in hand i think we just might squeezed into Europe
