SIGN HIM! Liverpool can beat Gala to this €13m genius if they move FAST...

With only 8 days until the January transfer window closes, it looks increasingly unlikely that Liverpool will bring any new players to Anfield. Kenny Dalglish has stated that he expects a 'quiet window', but if the Bolton game proved anything it's that the club is desperate for a striker and (arguably) a pacy attacking midfielder. One player who IS definitely available is Basel's Xherdan Shaqiri, and in my view, if Liverpool really wanted him, they could get him.

Earlier today, Galatasary announced that they'd made an offer for Shaqiri. The club statement read:

"The club have officially begun talks with the professional football player Xherdan Shaqiri and FC Basel. The public will be kept informed of developments."

The statement basically confirms what Galatasary president Unal Aysal told Reporters earlier this month:

“We’ve made an official offer for Shaqiri. We didn’t offer €10m; we offered a lower amount. But with bonuses it would come to €13m.

“The club told us that they received offers from a few other places, and after evaluating them all, they would come back to us”

A few days after Unsal's public statement, Shaqiri revealed that he would consider Galatasaray's offer:

"I've always admired Galatasaray as a successful club and Fatih Terim as an excellent coach. When the offer came in, I certainly wasn't thinking about going to Turkey, but I now need to sit down, look at their proposal and consider it."

There's clearly an opportunity for other clubs to come in and make an offer, and I really hope that Liverpool take the initiative and pull out all the stops to sign him. Galatasary admit that their total offer is just 13m; surely Liverpool can beat that bid...?

The bottom line:

* Shaqiri is available in January.
* He is a skilfull attacking midfielder with superb potential.
* He fits Liverpool's transfer philosophy.
* The top bid so far only amounts to €13m.
* He's willing to leave Basel.

What are Liverpool waiting for? Shaqiri may only 20 but he's already made 17 appearances for the Swiss national team.

In my view, if a player like this is available so cheaply, there's no excuse for a club like Liverpool to not be in the running for his signature.

Pull out all the stops and SIGN HIM!

but hey why not, he sounds great

  3. Agreed fully shaqiri is a talent and we could use some of that right now. His link up with Suarez, Gerrard & Bellamy would be a joy to watch forget signing Hazard and get this guy. Surely him and possible making 2 signings this window would only strengthen us, Shaqiri, honda and Van Wolfswinkel ..... Says it all

  4. He wiped the smug smile off Ferguson's face. Worth buying him just to see him do it again. Probably won't happen though - more's the pity.

  6. Dalglish will not be trusted with any money IF there is any.My reading of the situation is that Dalglish got his war chest from Henry[not his choice as manager]they expected a hugh return on that investment [minimum of fourth place].The money has been very badly spent by Dalglish and Champions league football for next season looks very very dodgy. So everybody who said that the signings at the time were great are now comming up with new names what a load of bollocks.

  7. i've been hoping that they sign shaqiri for so long. LFC needs players who can be a threat outside of the box, instead of another winger who will just cram the box and draw more defenders in there. we need outside threats to open up the box for the strikers to flourish.

  8. Yes yes yes please kenny!!! Can't agree more wiv jaimie on this one!!!

  9. Finally something I agree with... Would be a great transfer.. I was under the impression he was more a left winger though. Hope we try for him!.. And a back up poacher.

  11. When was the last time Liverpool 'moved quickly'? Apart from when we signed Carroll I mean.

We're a fucking joke of a club and I'm fucking sick of it now.

  13. how do you know it's dalglish who has the cash in hand? if you take a look at damien comolli's track record, it is seriously dangerous to put this man in a position of power, in 15 years the only good signings he made for arsenal and tottenham was gareth bale, the rest were all flop shows. he ruined arsenal and tottenham now he's f***ing us up.

  14. Absolutely agree, someone give me a megaphone and I'll stand outside Melwood all day long shouting it out. He would be the sort of signing that would give the rest of the players a boost of confidence as they'll be well aware that he can create and score goals against quality opposition.

  15. You lot make me laugh. We don't have multi millions to chuck around and to get to the signings, Carroll was a panic buy buy Comolli with an hour to buy a striker and not the player Dalglish wanted. Same with Henderson, the player Dalglish wanted opted for the Manure heap. Downing was the only player in his position that was available, English and not already taken by Shity. You all conveniently forget we have to have home grown players next season, hence the major commitments to acadamies by LFC and Shity. Throw into the mix the loss of Lucas to injury then spearing to Ferguson Associations dodgy officials

  16. Agree... We NEED better quality players than carol & henderson and nicely they r cheaper since we were so foolish to overspend for a medeocre quality.. Lets get bk to hving players like torres, mascherano, alonso, mereles, and. Acquilani keep them,

    ReplyDelete
  17. Make Comolli the fall guy why don't you, so your saying KD doesn't have a say in transfers? I bet Downing, Adam, Hendo, Doni are all Comolli's fault and ENrique n COates are the only 2 players KD has actually signed? get a life mate.

I've backed KD n will do so until May, BUT if we don't get a top4 spot then i think we need a new man in charge and winning the Carling Cup will not save his job

  18. Shaqiri's talent comes at a price. He is extremely selfish and wastes a lot more than he scores which will be detrimental to the team. We don't need players who waste the ball and gives it back. We need someone who can deliver consistently and who also works for the team and not himself.

  19. How bizarre and arrogant that the author of this site, aside from his inflammatory language, now thinks he can dictate what players LFC sign.

The playstation generation have gone mad.

  20. KK wont buy him. Could have boughht him last summer...But broke the bank on Downing. Problem is Kenny has to stick with these players. How can he not! He spent 116.5 million on them. If u ask me, it was true cowardice from Kenny to not take a punt on a foreign player. Which one of his British buys looks like a real player really! Not all 4 of them together..I know KK is beyond reproach, but i wonder if he has been away from the game too long. Dont bite my head off here.. But who will pay even half of what we paid for Carroll, Downing or Henderson...Just wasted the money! Our season will be defined this week. If we lose both games, we wont qualify for Europa league either...So, lets see what happens...Can't imagine what an easy ride Kenny has from the press. If this was Rafa, they would have tore him a new one...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Saw him knock out the Manc's from Champions League! All by himself ..they couldnt stay with him...A like that kind of selfish...Good players are mostly...

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't think he'll waste any more than the players we currently have on show..

    ReplyDelete
  23. KK bought Henderson b4 the Phil Jones Deal...My question is why did Comollli have no contingency plan. What does a director of football do if not handle these situations. He messed up Suarez's defence on the race case. Why do we pay him???? For the matter, we have been tracking Suarez from since the days of Rafa.

  24. this will be the best player in the world..mark my words!

  25. Dalglish sanctioned the players that Comolli put forward.Comolli cannot sign players off his own bat!
However LFC will be better without the pair of them!
    'BRING BACK RAFA NOW' !

  26. got it right mate...these are the three we need.
we lack so much creativity at the moment
Shelvey over Henderson any day !!

    ReplyDelete
  27. REPEAT! Comolli cannot sign players unless Dalglish sanctions it !
LFC need to let them both go ! IN FACT LFC need new owners because the second coming of YANKS is no better than the first!

  30. I am from Kosovo. Actually from the same town where Shaqiri's family come from. There is a lot of stuff written about him but on thing is more important then anything else - in a live interview for a local TV he said the he is a Liverpool fan. YNWA

  31. he's not a Brit.. Kenny doesn't want him

    ReplyDelete
  32. they are buying Jelavic rather than shakiri coz of his adaptable to the english game for his time at rangers. shakiri is too risky coz no premier league experience so is just lucky to had outclassed the entire manc's defenders. Jelavic has potential to be the lethal connections with the aid of Henderson and Adam, not to forget Downing constant dangerous crosses that misses the head of Carrol and may be converted by the deadly Jelavic!!!!!!! oh god plz save liverpool from all this clowns!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Comolli would never have thought all British. He would have mentioned European names, but if Dalglish would have told him his criteria of Premier League proven and British, he would have come up with these names. Plus, what is amanager's job if it is not convincing your players to stay. You need guts for that. You do not run everytime they let you know their intentions. This is LFC, not some helpless little club. I admire Kenny, but he did not deal with these things. - Torres, Meireles and Aquilani. They are humans for God sake, how do you expect them to not have egos - moreso when they are few of the highest earners in the world. The Adams and the Hendersons and the Downings won't mess-up the dressing room, but heck they haven't earnt their paychecks either for most of the time. That is the manager's job. Dalglish did not do it properly.

  34. IF he can break through MU defense then he is qualify to play in EPL

  35. Oh my "Puki Mak", we always do things last minute. Have not learn our lessons in the past. Me Ashfah loves the club more than the players. It's "kunkit" now, bye.

  36. This seems a no brainer at this price. Showed he can mix it with the big boys against United, even at his age. With his weird squat build he looks built for the Prem.

  37. Bring back Rafa to ANFIELD.What it would cost if Kenny's defence mingled with Rafa's offence. sounds like good!! CL position not CL trophy not far away in our way near seasons

    ReplyDelete
  38. exactly, not only can he breakthrough, he outclassed them, but kenny goes for english traditions, work-rate, ethic so that we can fought tooth-nail with the likes of wigan, qpr, norwich and of course everton, sad but true. Oh yeah, no 4 is like winning the league nowadays, how low can we go?  fighting for the survival of  relegations next maybe, i hope not......

  39. i'm from Lebanon. i think we want a CDM player to fill the gap of lucas until the end of the year and we want also a RM like lennon or walcott and a very good striker like tevez or cavvani or soldado

    ReplyDelete
  40. I agree that we might be pushing a lot on Kenny, But let's face the truth, the man decided to bring in Henderson and Adam, then let go of LFC's best player last season in Raul and send Aqua on loan!!! What is the sense in that? Also any mistake he has done this year has been applauded by everyone, as if Rafa did them he could have been saked!!!
I still believe that he still has the right to prove all wrong as he season is finished, but the response on the game against Botlon killed my hopes!!! Where is the Liverpool way that he suggests all the time when he criticize his own players publicly? I just feel he showed his weakness that day.

At the end we are asking a lot from a man that has been out of the manager seat for a long while. And I am not sure during that time anyone has offered him anything, even Scotland!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Agree on Soldado. But are you serious about Lennon and Walcott? These players should be Athletes not Footballers!!! The just run with no brains.

    ReplyDelete
  42. With you all the way!!! The season should finish first then we do talking!!! And about the signings, I don't understand the fuss about who signed who? Wasn't KK happy with Comolli at the beginning? So they both are to blame if it doesn't work out!!! IMO I think guys like Comolli shouldn't exist in football.

    ReplyDelete
  43. you want a RM player who can gives the ball to the strikers and fast players who can scores also

    ReplyDelete
  44. The problem here is bad decision making, bad decision making by kenny in the first place to play lucas 2 days after the chelsea clash instead of restng him,bad decision on playing gerrard adam and henderson in the middle, whos gonna do clean up,bad decision on spending money 85 mill on average players, if you want CL football you bring CL quality not bringin in Npower league starlets at harrods prices only for them to deliver poundland quality on the field,no sentiments cut kenny and commoli they both make me sick.as soon as the transfer window was opened we shud have bought sumwun in wats he waiting on?

    ReplyDelete
  45. This guy pulled manure apart but we only buy mediocre British players that cost a lot more than this! Then we play them week in and out and hope for a good result while better players sit on the bench.go figure. We deserve 7th. We are crap. And we are angry.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Agree shelvey is much better and he sits on the bench while Henderson gets to run around like a headless chicken, who can't even defend decently. It's mind boggling.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I honestly think that FSG have said to Kenny NO MORE MONEY.
I just don't think they trust his Judgement.
I suspect that behind the scenes that KD has been told you spent a lot of money on these players and we have not seen the results.
Why should we give you more money to spend ?..Justify it please .
Kenny will have difficulty arguing his case

    ReplyDelete
  48. Agree, but those players are not good enough!!! I watched them and they just mess things up at the last moment!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. 1st I wouldn't trust Kenny or Comolli with money but if there is a player this is the 1. I know it's not wise to buy in Jan bt Shaqiri & Hoillett r bargain buys.I'm not saying they will get us to the top 4 bt they will get us close.

    ReplyDelete
  50. It is well documented that Shaq has a huge chip on his shoulder and has been a problem attitude wise at Basel for many years.

It was one of the main reasons they could not offload him during the previous January window for 5m.

Great player but his temperament might not be ready for the EPL.

Would prefer any of Keisuke Honda (13m),Ryad Boudebouz (10m), Scott Sinclair(8m) or Leandro Damaio(18m), if we going to spend

Check JenChang at S.I USA for articles on Shaq and his availability + Tor Kristian Karlsen

  51. Those who are pushing Junior Hoilett...

He and his father have stated he is not leaving Blackburn in this window and he is looking to leave the North East on a free !!! That takes LFC out of it completely.

Right now going on quotes and interviews, I think and its just an opinion,  he wants a move to London.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Still young and look like a world class striker, i guess liv needs to sign him

    ReplyDelete
  53. how would it be a panic buy to snatch up a talented player that suddenly becomes available against all expectations?

I was shocked when I read the reports that Basle were contemplating allowing him to leave at this point in time, even more surprised that his proposed fee was so low and then even more surprised again that he'd be interested in moving to Galatasary.

All the talk previously was about Man U looking at him, and he might end up at Galatasary instead!?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Youssef Msakni - Scored for Tunisia against Morocco - fantastic pace & skill - plays in Tunisia, won't cost much & still only 21 yrs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. "...sick of it now." means that you are prepared to have the club walk alone. Patience and support is what you need.

    ReplyDelete
  56. For you to believe that Liverpool had just an hour to hear about and negotiate Torres' departure makes me think that you are very naive.
For you to say suggest that Henderson and Downing were the only viable options for the wings, even if the club was restricting itself to English players for some reason, then I have to just say you're not being honest with yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Dalglish made things worse for Suarez with all his funning off his mouth at every opportunity. Commoli is a glorified scout. Dalglish is responsible, and should be held accountable, for the failings at the club.

    ReplyDelete
  58. He is better than Carroll.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Totally agree, Jay. Why would he choose to go to Galatasary over other top European clubs? Shaqiri is obviously available, and I would see it as a dereliction of duty if Liverpool didn't, at the very least, put in a bid.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Players, managers and agents say a lot of things. When push comes to shove and an opportunity to greatly their individual situation arises, more often than not they'll jump at it.

Hoilett may well prefer other moves to Liverpool, but as long as Liverpool make a concrete move and those other clubs don't, then he I couldn't see him choosing to stay and fight relegation with battle and hoping for the best in the summer rather than just joining us now.

    ReplyDelete
  61. looking at him...could he be our next Gerrard???

    ReplyDelete
  62. ShardeYNWALFC4EVER7:12 pm, January 24, 2012

Been going on about us getting him for over a year! wake up DC and earn your money, do not replace below average players with more of the same, we need world class players, otherwise YOU will be the first out of the door, after all we are LFC not Bolton !!

    ReplyDelete
  63. This kid is sheer class,he scores goals for fun.If Liverpool can get him for £10 million' what are they waiting for.He certainly looks like he's a super star in the making and fits the Liverpool way at only 20 years of age.

    ReplyDelete
  64. sounds like a player we payed 35mill for, great prospect blah blah blah
if a team like real madrid were sniffing then you know hes talented and a bit special. your all coming across as just desperate no offence.
hope im wrong and we sign him and hes a hit obviously.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Many of theese comment sounds like they comes from spoiled brats. Remeber you dont rebuild from mediocre to top class in half a season even with 100 mill to spend

    ReplyDelete
  66. It's a no brainer, the guy is class, he is young and could be huge star in future and, most importantly, he is better than what we have, by a long shot. All this stuff about him being selfish, etc, etc, he delivers and he scores for fun. He's creative and would definitely add something to the team considering what we have been watching.

I've seen a few players labelled not good enough for us in the past week or so. But Keane had a blinder on saturday, Defoe scored at the weekend, Lennon looked good enough for us on Sunday. You'd think that we were not trailing Arsenal, 3 defeats on the spin, in the table. And people say they are having a nightmare.

If we don't try to sign this guy and Galatasary get him and then sell him to a spanish club for 30 million in a couple of years, then we really do have no ambition at all.

As for who is signing the players, if Dalglish chose Carroll, Downing and Adam and Comolli chose the rest, then Comolli should be in charge of signings for the forseeable future.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Have you even seen him him play?
He's pure class, and to echo Jay, I can't believe he's available - especially for such a relatively low price.
Lowee78 - you're entitled to your opinion but if you only rate players based on whether or not Real Madrid are interested then you're an idiot.
Why don't you watch him play and make a judgement based on his ability?

    ReplyDelete
  68. Top teams were apparently sniffing around Igor Biscan when we picked him up. Nobody was sniffing around Suarez. That shows how much rumours mean about a players quality! Furthermore, if Real Madrid are seriously about going after any player right now, Liverpool aren't getting him anyway, so I don't see the logic in the argument.
Besides, Shaqiri guy HAS been linked with Man U quite frequently over the last year anyway. Nobody would've expected him to become available in the middle of a surprise CL campaign though, particularly for such a low price, hence the tendency to ignore him when composing wish lists. When circumstances change (as with Suarez and his problems hitting his reputation last year) then it is up to prospective buyers to act quickly and take advantage. Jamie K is merely suggesting that LFC do so here.

This would be NOTHING like the Carroll transfer, seeing as Carroll was bought for a price that it would be almost impossible for him to prove value for money. Buying a prospect such as Shaqiri at the price suggested would be a no-lose situation however. Even if he flops, teams we'd still be able to trade on his talent/potential in a couple of years and sell for a similar value.

BTW fwiw, we ARE desperate! Liverpool are severely lacking in  pace and flair, so any opportunity to up the quotient on the cheap should be taken (hence my desire to see us pick up Hoilett asap also)

    ReplyDelete
  69. i think your the idiot, ive seen bits on youtube, as thats where you probably got a stiffy over him.
