Denmark Manager: "Daniel Agger should leave Liverpool for Barcelona"

Denmark coach Morten Olsen has controversially claimed that Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is not playing at a level that befits his prodigious talents.

Speaking to Aftonbladet, Olsen - who will lead Denmark in the European Championships next year - argued that Agger is playing the best football of his career:

"Currently, we are seeing Agger at his best, and it is because he is fit and has recovered from his injuries.

"We saw in the last few matches how important he is for the national team, and you can see how important he is also for Liverpool, and you can see how they struggle to cope defensively when he is not there"

Olsen then went on to suggest that Agger should be setting his sights higher than Liverpool:

"When he is fit, Agger is a modern, top class stopper. I would like to see him next to Gerard Pique at Barcelona. That, I think, is his level."

Olsen's comments are pretty disrespectful to Liverpool, and although I don't think Agger will be leaving any time soon, Olsen works closely with him on International breaks, and they will inevitably talk, and he could be putting ideas into Agger's head...

  1. I have a better idea for Morten Olsen, That he will leave the Denmark coaching and become the manager of Barcelona.

  2. Agger is definitely one of the players who deserve more than they have achieved so far at Liverpool.
That of course is not to say Olsen is right, but is a sad fact.

  3. What a load of crap! He finally has a string of games and now he comes out and says he is too good for Liverpool!
Stick your ideas up where the sun don't shine!

  4. If Olsen is so good why doesn't he coach Barcelona and then sign the players he wants properly.Olsen knows his football really well though, after all Barca have won more European cups than  LFC according to him obviously...HOHOHO

  5. It is Skrtel who is commanding the back four at the moment not Agger. If we consider the last match. Agger put in an own goal, and allowed Ba to go past him for the second which was cleared on the line by Skrtel. Skrtel is playing at a level higher than Agger at the moment.

  6. Aaah but this is Morten Olsen, the Danish equivalent of Roy Hodgson: happy with a draw at home to Albania, always sticking with Thomas Sorensen and Nicklas Bendtner. He basically doesn't know his arse from his elbow, as Denmark's international record of the past 10 years vividly illustrates.

  7. What is he on about! Skrtel has been carrying Agger all season. Agger is great on the ball but Skrtel is the one who's been doing all the defending!

  12. This news will please Dalglish. This is an opportunity he has been waiting for. He will just replace Agger with a sub-standard British defender. This is a win win as far as Dalglish is concerned.

  15. u having a laugh, one we are on the way up two u dont think liverpool staying with him through his bad times doesnt deserve a bit of loyalty, people like olsen dont look at the big picture now rooney to madrid i can see that in the near future

  16. Martin Olsen, you want to trade in Agger for Messi or Higuan. This is a two way traffic. Olsen is talking nuts. Me, Ashfah loves Agger.

  17. why do mancs or evertonions spend so much time on a liverpool site just shows how sad u are.

  18. who does this fella think he is? we pay Aggers wages when he is injured, spend a fortune getting him fit to play then this twerp wants us to sell him to Barca! bloody cheek..

  19. guy's please dont give this a second throught, agger is a good player (good) not great. he has been playing well but so has squirtel aka (chuck norris) he would be more than welcome to go to barcelona for a decent fee of course!! and they can put up with his injury problems the fact he has been injurd for most of his time at liverpool maybe we would have done a bit better on the prem front or winning some cups (MAYBE) but we will see he might out grow us i doubt it but he might?
but untill then im more than happy for him to stay in the central defence holding him back untill he gets the call...

  20. dont you think with the amount of money we've paid agger whilst being injured and not playing he should just keep playing his best for us and Olsen should shut his mouth we've help get him to the standard he is, stay at liverpool ager and you'll be a legend.

  21. Stats from last game and tell me how Skrtel does all the defending!! Dagger won all his duels, from ground to air and by the way its Dagger who makes Skrtel looks good, put Skrtel besides Carra and you´ll get my point

  22. I am Liverpool through and through since the nineteen seventies. We want the best at Liverpool. A player's passport should not be a decider. A midfied of Gerrard, Alonso and Mascherano is what we used to have once upon a time ago. What did we have in midfield when Newcastle bossed us in the first half last Friday?

  23. Morten Olsen is a silly old man who thinmks he knows all - and everybody should just listen to him..
He's been a joke in Denamrk for years due to his personal behaviour ..
Dont waste words on him .

    ReplyDelete
  24. I see your point clearly. That's why we have to show our undivided support to keep Agger at Anfield and not allow him to be replaced by a sub-standard player. We already have a number of them in the team already without naming names.

  25. olsen....the danish roy hodgson lol

  26. shut up olsen

agger is loyal to us so he'll never join cheating UEFA bribing Barcelona

    ReplyDelete
  27. all you people giving hate on olsen, all he's saying is that agger beside pique would be brilliant, and if you disagree with that your stupid! agger wont leave because he's loyal, but what olsen has done with the danish national team is quite brilliant, so you cant really hate on him for that..

    ReplyDelete
  28. dont the other 10 starters deserve more??
your a joke along with that danish tw#t
i could maybe sort of understand if it was the spanish coach saying it about reina.

  29. It's just a complimet to his player. A bit tactless towards LFC, admittedly.

But Agger does not make an impression of someone who is easily manipulated. He's our mighty viking and has a strong personality and he is his own man.

  30. Who the fuck is Olsen?

    ReplyDelete
  31. In that case any one with talent should be in Barcelona lol. He is playing some of his best football right now, so I don't think that it would logical to put a stop him and place in another team. Look what happened to Torres, he is supposedly in a "bigger" club now and he's lucky now to even get an appearance off the bench.

  32. uh, mister Liverpool through and through... we still have Gerrard, Dalglish did not volunteer the sales of Alonso or Masch (in fact neither had anything to do with him) - we still have Lucas, Adam, Rodriguez..etc all not English but actually our English players are young and improving so keep your Dalglish bashing to yourself please.

    ReplyDelete
  33. so that's why Skrtel is on the bench and we have one of the best defences in the Premier League...?? No, that's right it's Carra on the bench. Think about what you're saying!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Is Downing , Henderson and Carroll improving? Wow your easily pleased...just shows how far our standards have fallen... Hate to say it but they are rubbish

    ReplyDelete
  35. Hendersons England u21 captain and definitely improving pal. We're playing really well at the minute so while your sat there in ya armchair look at the bigger picture. Happy new year anyway red fans! YNWA.

  36. Not saying we're overly impressed with them right now but have to agree with Marc.... anyhow, Happy New Year all YNWA!

Mr Olsen.. with a little bit of respect to you, whay you think Liverpool is lower than Barcelona? Its it because they are winning right now and poaching other teams good player by unsettling them at their respective teams? How many times Barcelona have won the ECL and compare to Liverpool? Just because Liverpool went through a patchy moment due to some useless manager and owners doesnt means Liverpool is lower than any other club. PLEASE BE REMEMBER! THIS IS LIVERPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB AND WE WILL RISE AGAIN...VERY SOON! Barcelona will be history once Liverpool emerges again. Do you still remember what was the score when the two teams met for the  last time? Anyway...Mr Olsen, please prove your worth as a national team of The Great Denmark team by establishing your team as the team in europe and world. Stop comment on other teams...its very stinking!

  38. I never accussed Dalglish for sanctioning the sales of either Alonso or Mascherano. I want him to sign quality replacements on the level of the mentioned players. Right now, with the eception of Gerrard, we don't have a world class player in our midfield. As for Dalglish bashing, my loyalty is to Liverpool FC; not Dalglish.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Why resort to racism you moron? Mr Olsen is perfectly entitled to his opinion.  More so than you I would venture. And learn to write English properly if you want to post something here.  It is "you're", not "your". And don't has an apostrophe.

  40. Barcelona are battling for honours as the best club side ever while Liverpool are battling for a place in the English top 4.

Even if Liverpool are on the way up, surely even you can see that Barcelona are already "there" Ken??

Olsen's comments are no more disrespectful than all the comments about prospective transfer targets (e.g. Downing from Villa) making a massive step up if they were to come to Liverpool

  42. i think our whole defence has been playing as a proper unit think this guy should shut his mouth that to me is a shocking statement for an international coach to be saying about a club thats stood by a player of his nation through a lot of injury problems i dont see why if he did go to barca this would improve him as a player he already plays against world class players and when i watch barca when on tv their defence hardly gets tested because most teams cant get the ball off their midfield if agger knows whats good for him he will stay where he is maybe 2-3 more quality additions to our team by next season ive seen enough that i think if we get a quality 20+ a season striker we will mount a serious challenge next season.

  43. "dont you think with the amount of moeny we've paid agger whilst being injured and not playing he should just keep playing his best for us and Olsen should shut his mouth"
