Daniel Agger scored an excellent headed goal against Man United in the FA Cup earlier today, and whilst he's happy that Liverpool won the game and got through to the next round, the Dane is fully focused on the premier league, and he's called for an improved performance against Wolves next week.
Speaking to LFC TV after the game, Agger was keen to stress the importance of Liverpool's next league game:
"We need to get further up in the table.
"It's not good enough where we are now, so definitely we need three points.
"It's a tough game on Tuesday, and we need to play well to win".
It seems like every league these days is a 'must-win', but that's what happens when you draw seven games at home; the pressure increases as the margin for error decreases.
Agger's last goal for Liverpool was against Benfica in April 2010, but in that game, the the Portuguese side came back to win 2-1. Thankfully, that didn't happen against United, who had plenty of possession but very little attacking impact, as Agger acknowledged:
"We defended well. They had a lot of possession but not many chances. We did well, but united is a tough team to play against. You can't talk about who deserved to win or not because it's football, and anything can happen".
According to OPTA stats, Agger has made more interceptions that any other Liverpool defender this season, and with 86% passing accuracy - also the highest of the club's defenders - it's easy to see why a fully fit Agger is such an asset to the team.

The effect he his having on Skrtel's game as well he needs to stay fit we all know what Agger is capable of! Skrtel seems to copy who ever he his partnered with! Route one with Carragher and a bit clumsy! Now he is watching and playing with Agger he his learning how to defend with style, bringing the ball out of defence and his passing, making of a great defensive partnership who are scoring and can and should have scored more.
ReplyDeleteWell done reds
ReplyDeletecant believe how good our centre backs are, really good balance. just need kelly to have a run of games now. think agger is due one of his belter goals!
ReplyDeletebeen a good week, suarez back soon!!!
hopefully surez will come back refreshed from the break, IMO he needed it as he has had little or no break since last season and it has affected his game in the earlier part of the season, he has not been as prolific in front of goals as we had become acustomed to. Hopefully he will come back raring to go and lead the liverpool line helping us get back in contention for 4th spot. Over the next couple of weeks most of the top 6 teams play each other, this may be the defining moment of our season. we need to go on a run of games where we can capitalise on the top teams loosing points.
ReplyDeletewhat date will suarez come back in?
ReplyDeleteAgree with you.skirtel and agger are a class act....and skirtel is the easy target to blame when things go wrong......once suarez is back we should be creating even more...with bellamy and suarez and gerrard just behind should terrorise defenses
ReplyDeleteSpot on Agger...great week in the cups, with suarez coming back, gerrard building match fitness game and bellamy on form, those 3 have got to be defo starters if we are going to have any chance of qualifying for CL. Carragher for me is now past it im afraid..last season ii think.
ReplyDeleteI believe he will be available for the Spurs match on the 6th of Feb. Can't wait for him to be back.
ReplyDeleteMartin Kelly, we need to play this guy at RB on a more regular basis. Far more aware of what happens around him and he does not faff around. He is a waste sitting on the bench. Play him!!!
We can still finish 4th Dixie, we just need somebody to step up and convert chances. Suarez has had a rest now and you can only imagine that he is fired up to terrify defences again. One cup final awaiting us and another one lurking around the corner by knocking out the 2 manc teams is the highlight of the season so far. It will be a major accomplishment for LFC to win two trophies in one season since the FA cup in 05/06. It has been a while.
Just imagine 2 cups and 4th. Suarez coming back could just be the key to pushing for these three targets.
February 6th against Spurs! We will have played 8 games in January after the Wolves game plus is one match ban against Newcastle.
ReplyDeleteR u delusional or what
