Liverpool LINE-UP vs Man City: Bellamy starts; Carroll on the bench

Andy Carroll and Maxi Rodriques have been dropped for tonight's Carling Cup semi-final second leg against Manchester City at Anfield.

Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt come into the team to replace those two.

Here is the full team:

Reina, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Enrique, Henderson, Adam, Gerrard, Downing, Bellam, Kuyt.

Subs : Doni, Kelly, Carroll, Maxi, Coates, Carragher, Shelvey.

Manchester City: Hart; Richards, Lescott, Savic, Zabaleta; De Jong, Barry, Silva, Kolarov, Nasri, Dzeko.

This definitely doesn't bode well for Carroll; I think most people expected the 35m man to start this game, but once again, he's been left out.

-------------- Reina

Johnson - Skrtel - Agger - Enrique

Henderson -- Adam - Gerrard --- Downing

--------- Bellamy - Kuyt

  2. Adam / Gerrard combo in the middle again? I'll give them the benefit of the doubt today but Saturday showed it is a disaster... hopefully they protect that back line better today

  3. Looks like 5 in midfield to me with Henderson, Adam and SG in the middle.  If we go with SG and Adam as a pair Centrally I'm applying for the Liverpool hotseat.

  4. An Adam & Gerrard pair is quite similar to Lampard and Gerrard surely? and they worked perfectly together........

  5. what so what happened to the warning kenny why is adam in the starting eleven and why is henderson on the wing the guy is not a winger. Whatever i still believe in my team YNWA!! C'MON U REDS!!!

  6. Well, well, I wonder if Gerrard and Adam will play more wisely today in the centre  as a duo(if they are playing there as a duo).

They should do, because it seemed like Gerrard & co underestimated and disrespected Bolton, due to their bad form. Whereas City are a big side and league leaders, so Gerrard and co will be more wiser.

The positions of Bellamy, Kuyt, Hendo and Downing will possibly change during the game, depending on how things ago.

Maybe even Hendo alongside Adam, with Gerrard in front, Kuyt or Bellamy outwide.

I reckon it will be a 4-5-1 formation.

  8. Big big game. I like Bellamy up front with Kuyt! they both provide energy and will close down the centrebacks. If we can put as much pressure on savic when he has the ball as possible it may be a way to exploit there goal on the counter with Bellars and Downings pace.
    Come on you reds!!! YNWA

  9. Kuyt will probably be on the right wing with Downer!! on the left, leaving Bellamy up front. Probably rotating Kuyt, Downer and Bellamy from wing to front position if we actually try and move after making a pass... Doubtful of the movement though as we have played pass-and-stand-still recently

  10. Prediction: 2-1 to us with Savic sent off. I should place a quid on that really

  11. Agree with that. The more time gerrard pushes up the better but that would need hendo to be more central and hence the need for Adam to be more switched on defensively and not give away stupid fouls like at bolton. im not sure who is the better Defensive mid out of Hendo and Adam but they both have to on their game
.I think tonight is the night for Downing i really have the feeling he will do something impotant tonight. (wishful thinking maybe) Bellamy is the key tho!!!!!

  12. Before our City trilogy, I said a win, a draw and a loss were in order but not that order. Surely enough, we got the loss, the win and the draw!

  13. I remember when you wrote that post. I thought you were on the money then and how right have you been proven!!!!!

  14. Well played, now how is it we can play like that against world class teams and struggle against the minnows....daglish is right, its all about Attitude. Bellamy you are f***** hard and I would say the best deal Liverpool have ever done, without paying a penny.  I reckon Suarez and Bellamy play upfront would cause havoc!!!

  15. We played well tonight but a few things definitely went our way tonight. But if we pass the ball properly and allow our full backs to get forward, we can create chances. The Johnson knockers should consider that, when we play properly, he is one of the better attacking players we have, he should be given a run on the right side of midfield now, surely.

Bellamy is just awesome, he murdered their back four and it's a shame that he does not have the legs to play every game because he is our best player this season.

  16. Nice insight. But when i saw henderson adam gerrard i knew hendo would have been on the wing. We won though and overally we dominated the game up to the point when craig bellamy scored. Although i would still like to see another striker I want to congratulate my team on a job well done.

  17. If Carroll had the fire that Bellamy has in him, he'd be a force. Hope he was watching and learning. Attack the defenders, Andy!

Our best attacking signing of the summer was a free transfer that has questionable fitness. Never mind, great performance from Bellers.Don't rate Johnson's defending but going forward and exploited right by the midfield, his attacking forays can be vital

  18. Aye, we just seem to turn it on for the big games. We'll probably win against the other Mancs too but go onto balls it up against a next small side we play in the league/cup.

Its a weak mentality that we've had for a long time now. Its a pity.

  19. There is one big team we will well and truly struggle to even get a point from, that being Spurs.

  22. congrats to the lads... that was a superb effort... and now were going to Wembley... have to agree with you j75j... i can not see comments about how we need to sell players and get a new manager anymore, or comparing managers with previous ones either...
i hope the boys can keep up the same effort and intensity against the other manc team and im sure it will be a cracker of a game...  YNWA...

  23. Henderson played behind Bellamy and and Kuyt played on the right. thats the way i saw it. If we play Bellamy behind suarez and kuyt on the right as much as possible we will win more than we lose/draw. Then in the second half of games Henderson replaces either Adam if we are chasing or Bellamy if we are leading.

  24. Johnson's two most valuabe runs this year have won us games against Chelsea and Man City. I fully agree that Johnson should be right wing/mid and play Kelly all the time at RB. That move is seriously the equal to a 10m buy in the transfer market and we have suitable backup in Kuyt and Flannagan.

  26. Did you watch the game, or did you spend all night looking for your anti depressants?

Honestly, some people on here should seek help.

For the most part, we were awesome last night. And you still moan about it?
We outplayed a team which cost over 3 times what our did and one which is mostly non British players.
If Joe Hart had played like that for England in 2010 they would have won the World Cup, Liverpool had 13 attempts ON TARGET and 3 off, Hart was like Spiderman in between the sticks last night, had he an off night, we could have had double figures.

And for your information, the all time winners of this 'great trophy' with 7 wins is, guess who? LIVERPOOL!

  27. i think some fans are un happy we won as then they cant come on here anslag the team,; dicks!!!! well done liverpool

  28. Totally agree dixie.

You wont see Mali341 posting any of his rubbish unless we lose.

Fickle fans I tell you, they should go find another club to run down all the time.

Out with these people who foam at the mouth when we lose but have nothing to say when we have just reached a cup final!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Although we got through we actually did not win the  match. It is not even February and we are 19 pts off the pace. 19 PTS. After spending 100m this is certainly not good enough

    Wake up

    ReplyDelete
  30. Never even thought of that tbh - my only thought has been why are we constraining one of our few legit matchwinners by making him sit deep in midfield??

    ReplyDelete
  31. No, no, no, we are supposed to think Carling Cup is the bread and butter. As well we have to pretend everything is rosy, despite looking poor in the league. Be proud that our best signing by a country mile is a defender and a free transfer forward....who gives a monkeys about the shed load of money we have wasted on the other players in the summer.

We have reached the Carling Cup final....all is fucking well again!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You need to wake up buddy, we were not in one million years going to win the league this season seeing that it has been over 20 blinking years since we last won it i.e. Ke. 10nny Dalglish. 100mil is a drop in the ocean compared to the total this club has spent since Houllier joined. Rafa is the clubs biggest spender in our history so lets not try and beat around the bush.

Not many teams have beaten City either this season and we played well and we should have won last night. We are through to a cup final. We have not won anything in 6 seasons.

    Go support another team.
