LINE-UP vs Bolton: Maxi, Bellamy and Gerrard start...

Kenny Dalglish has made two changes to the team that drew against Stoke last week, and for the first time in ages, Bellamy, Maxi and Gerrard play in the same team.

Here is the team:

Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Enrique, Gerrard, Adam, Henderson, Maxi, Bellamy, Carroll

Subs: Coates, Carragher, Kelly, Downing, Shelvey, Kuyt

This is arguably the strongest attacking team Kenny could put out, so I'm sure Liverpool will win the game. Having said that, it looks like Carroll will be playing up front on his own, with Henderson likely to be playing out of position on the right.

If it's a 4231, I prefer the following formation:

------------------------- Reina

Johnson --------- Skrtel ------- Agger -------------- Enrique

-------------------- Adam --- Henderson

Maxi ----------------- Gerrard -------------------- Bellamy

---------------------- Carroll

If it's a 442, then I would go with:

------------------------- Reina

Johnson --------- Skrtel ------- Agger -------------- Enrique

Gerrard ------------- Adam --- Henderson ------------ Maxi

------------------- Bellamy --- Carroll

Henderson is ineffective on the right, but Gerrard has proven he can play there effectively. We'll probably see the opposite though: Gerrard in the centre and Henderson on the right.

  3. It will finish 0-0. Kenny out, kenny out, kenny out out out

  4. Potential soft belly in the centre of midfield but nice to see a attack-minded side. There are goals to be had against a Bolton side that can't defend well at the moment. I would be shocked and disgusted if we didn't manage to score at least two against them.

Please, please, AC, sort out the first touch today

  5. Oh for fuck sake, its 1-0 to them already!

  6. and nearly 2-0

What was that Macca about our wingbacks?

  7. your some supporter ye hope the teams beat

  8. WWhilst Adam is in the starting line up with Carroll ...we will struggle .

  9. Does anyone else think that Andy Carroll Skrtel 'thingy' at corners is crap and doesnt work?  How long will we persist with this?  Carroll to date is yet to win a header from a corner but we keep doing it.  Just stick Carrol on the keeper!!

Your right doodle our fullbacks are getting roasted so far...........

  11. WWhat was Adam doing for the goal...strolling back..why???rather play downing and have gerrard as holding mf

  12. So our best option is for a Stevie G hoof to toothless Carroll tonight so far. Impressive.

  13. Our central midfield is too soft and indisciplined in terms of tracking runners through the middle by the Bolton players. Neither are a Lucas-destructive holding player or a passive holding player a la Xabi. Their defensive positional play and marking has been terrible.

  14. Unfortunately thats 100% true.  Adams form has faded badly.

  15. Am glad kk knows what he's doing...we just need blind Faith ..am sure well win 5-0 even though we are losing 1-0

  16. wrong mate - 2 nil now

  17. That was a penalty but now its 2-0, thanks to a manc reject creativity....fucking great(!)

Again, the central midfield not tracking the midfield runners

That is why I prefer gerrard further forward or on the wing, as he is reckless in terms of defensive positioning

  18. Oh Lucas/Spearing where for ought thy?

  19. 2-0 to bolton but still confident will win 5-0

  20. Yet again, the central midfield not tracking runners.

One of the reasons why I do not like Stevie G in a two-man central midfield, as he is too in-disciplined defensively.

Was a penalty but that doesn't excuse poor defending.

  21. Whoo-hoo, pulled 1 back but we were gifted that.

We'll get something out of this game I reckon but we won't be impressive thats for sure

  22. Never rated Adam from day 1..when did we buy a player who can't run..can't tackle ..can't take penaltys but can take a corner and even with corners lately is struggling to get the ball over the first defender

  23. What a load of nonsense from Charlie Adams in this first half.

    ReplyDelete
  24. NOW....I'm a believer.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Adam has got to stop playing those long hollywood balls.....he aint gerrard. Game by game we are declining in confidence...not work in progress!!! Fuck sake...put sammy lee upfront who will atleast show some passion..2nd half is going to be very INTERESTING!!!

  26. Carroll has turned provider,I think hes having his best game, first sets up Maximillion Rodriguez, then sets up bellamy for the goal.Reinas distribution will be key in the second half, most of our attacks are starting with Reinas vision, hes more than just a shot stopper hes a sweeper who seems to be the most creative player we have on the pitch at the minute, very underrated.

  27. Our fullbacks are shocking! We need a tactical sub! Shelvey on for Adam, Gerrard in holding role! Adam's slow movement is costing us, our fullbacks are compensating. Shelvey would be a perfect outlet for passes and for movement up front with Gerrard back.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Sets up Bellamy? It was bloody hoofball play. Is that what we have to resort to with Carroll?

    ReplyDelete
  29. carragher will be back soon so things can go from bad to worse.

    ReplyDelete
  30. forget the game now.......its all about Bellamy and Reo Coker..

    ReplyDelete
  31. Shelvey in for Henderson....He's shocking !!
    No effort at all !!

    ReplyDelete
  32. No commitment or determintation from a £20mill player. Disgusting !!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Enrique has found his nemesis.  Charlie Adam body checks everyone he meets even when he goes down to the chippy,  Jordan Henderson is....Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll is the biggest mistake since chocolate chip weetabix.

    Losing patience with Dalglish's tactics!

No soul, no fighting spirit, selfishness = toothless

  37. Please lets not buy any players under Dalglish/Commolli anymore. CLueless !

  45. I sure hope its curtains for KK!! This season has really damaged the Liverpool brand similar to what was happening under "Woy". No team fears us anymore...and even the tailenders see us as easy pickings!!! Who can blame 'em. Dalglish you had your chance. Please tender your resignation immediately. John Henry please get in touch with Rafa.

  49. FIRE THAT USELESS PIECE OF GARBAGE NOW!!.. The lemmings that still defend this clown are living in the past.. the same morons that think Carroline, Adam, Henderson and Downing are quality! ...

  50. You could see this coming, after all those lovely draws we were due a loss.  The worse thing is that the players we could rely on, who have played effective this season are also being dragged down by poor signings, tactics and people skills.  No way near the liverpool standard and kenny is way out of his depth im afraid to say...stats will never never lie.  Cannot fall back on any excuses now, I would like to hear the thoughts of some of those so-called fans who think we are still progressing...disgraceful.  We are right now looking like loserpool than liverpool.  John Henry has his fingers crosssed that we win one of the cups which will soften the disappoint I'm hoping!!

  51. Ready/Steady/Like.....I LOL @ Carrol, Adam, Henderson and Downing

    ReplyDelete
  52. Poor poor poor. Worst performance since the away loss to Braga. Not KK's fault as it was a team selection we'd been waiting to see, all the fault lies with the players. Adam is pointless, I've finally given up with Carroll after that awful air-shot, lack of work-rate and inability to stay on his feet. You were all Sunday league boys, better pull your socks up soon!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Totally abject performance. Although I have my opinions on strikers we should sign, I'm hardly one to scream for a signing, but on today's showing, it is very apparent we have to sign a holding midfield player, or at least give Coady a run out! 2 summer central midfield signings and both are attackers - one is slow, the other lacks adventure, neither can play in the holding role effectively! We got bossed in the middle of the park, and then we went 4-4-2! The Flintstones played 4-4-2! Bolton cut through us like a hot kife through butter. Arsenal already showed us at the start of the season that 2 holding midfielders is not enough, both of ours are currently out. If there's any signing we have to make urgently, it's a playbreaker!

  54. Suarez and Lucas are badly missed (and someone of Rafa's calibre, of course)!

We have won 4 points, scored 4 goals and conceded 7 (!) in the 4 PL games after Suarez's suspension.  Small sample, granted, yet projected over 38 games means one thing -- relegation zone.  In these 4 games we outplayed the opposition once and have been outplayed 2 times.  It seems that Suarez's influence extends beyond what he directly creates in attacking play; his mere presence pushes the opposition back and necessitates dedication of more defensive players to watch him.  Further, he provides constant pressure on opposing defenders who do not have comfort on the ball to organize attacks from the back.

Given the softness and lack of discipline of our central midfilders, Lucas is also badly missed.  What is even worse, Adam managed below 60% successful passes today, which additionally put unnecessary pressure on the team by his disharmonizing the whole play.  His lack of discipline, mindless tackles, and poor movement are notorious.

This is not a post to pick on a player or two or simplify the reasons for the loss.  We could argue all day what is wrong, but there is one key issue for me -- we lack enough quality players: two key players out of the team (Lucas/Suarez) and the overall poor quality is exposed: this was one of Caroll's best games yet he was far from Liverpool quality; Henderson is still just a prospect; Downing/Kuyt lack any creativity, control on the ball; Maxi is being played sporadically so miracles cannot be expected from the rare games he is played in.

Finally, it seems we could not be relying on captain-fantastic to save us all the time: his best has been in the positions Rafa (further up or on the right) has played him in... or maybe age/injuries are taking toll.

  55. Not another goodnite for those carroll, downing, adam's FANS!!!! Where are uuuuuuuuu lot now, hiding perhaps in a cornflakes box!! STATS WILL NEVER LIE!!

  56. So finally...whats different between last season and this one?

    ReplyDelete
  57. Is he still on his knees in front of his highness saying nice things

    ReplyDelete
  58. Sorry, but enough is enough. Please go into some other role for our club after the season Dalglish and let Rafa Benitez take over.Benitez is the man we need.

    ReplyDelete
  59. and the season before that....

    GOING OUT: alonso,maserano,torres,meireles, riera, keane...
COMING IN: adam, henderson, downing, carroll

So to be fair the league position at present is spot on based upon the above....WORK IN PROGRESS THEY CALL IT.

What is most shocking, kenny states downing is better than what he expected and then leaves him on the bench where he should be on current form...hmmm!! Rehab clinic for im afraid!!

  60. Don't see FSG spending big money to fix the mistakes of last summer.

Instead, they should find a manager who suits the calibre and type of players at the club. KK buys in these players and uses tactics that don't suit the players.

    Find a hoofball manager.

  61. N'Gog > Carroll

    Mark Davies > Henderson

Chris 'manc reject' Eagles > Maxi

    'OAP' Petrov > Downing

    N'Gog = £1.5m

    Mark Davies = £2m

    Eagles = £3m

    Petrov = free

  62. Time to fall on the sword. Too many mistakes.

    RIP KK.

  63. KK looks absolutely smashed whenever I see his post-match interview of his, goes magic with that incoherent mumbling of his

    Whiskey Sour-Face

  64. Sorry Kenny but if your name was anything other than Kenny Dalglish you would be getting enormous stick. Absolutely clueless tactically and totally unable to motivate anyone. 75 mill for Downing, Henderson and Carroll I genuinely want to weep at what could actually have been done with that money. You were and always will be my favourite player but you can't do this job and have to accept it. For the first time in 35 years I am actually not looking forward to a home semi final (although I'll still be there). A performance like that against City will result in a 3 or 4 goal defaet, simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Nice to see the result has made some fans happy tonight!

    ReplyDelete
  66. At least the post match comments were "refreshing"... wonder whom KK was referring to! And i suppose it is not coincidence that we have not been the same team since KK's confirmation as the boss...:(

  67. Bye Bye Top Four!!!!!! Terrible performance!

  68. Lack of discipline seems to be the issue with our players. Whether it is the failure to track a run, the inability not to say silly things or lack of discipline in their local pub, we just seem to have too many players who make poor choices and are not prepared or able to show enough fight, on the pitch anyway, against motivated opposition. To top it off, we don't have any spark in our play and we are slow and laboured. Without Lucas, who everyone used to hate, we have no one who can be relied on to keep us solid in the middle and we are getting nowhere on the flanks. We need two midfielders, one defensive and one attacking on the right. We probably need to push Gerrard right up again and if we cannot buy then we should look at Coady and Sterling. They cannot do worse than this. Henderson and Adam have to go onto the bench for a while. Adam might be useful when players are tiring but, till then, he is a liability.
