CONFIRMED: Top striker is available for 'a lot LESS than £10m...'

Newcastle United's prolific striker Demba Ba could be available for much less than the £10m currently being reported in the press, claims Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp.

Earlier in the week, Redknapp incurred the wrath of Newcastle by revealing that Senegalese hitman had a release clause in his contract:

"Demba Ba hs done great hasn’t he, everybody is looking at him suddenly. Anybody could have had him a year ago. Full credit to Alan Pardew, he took him.

"He is probably the most in-form striker anywhere at the moment. They say there is a release clause in his contract, that is what we all hear".

Initially, the release clause figure was reported as £10m, but speaking to the Press after Spurs' FA Cup victory yesterday, Redknapp offered another tantalising piece of info that is sure to excite the Premier League's top clubs.

When asked about a £10m release clause, Redknapp said:

"I think you will find it is a lot less than that.”

He was then asked if it was around the £7m mark, to which he replied:

"Even less than that"

If Redknapp is right, it looks like the Premier league's second highest goalscorer is available for around £5m (!), which could be an amazing piece of business for someone.

A Newcastle spokesman was quick to play down the speculation though, and told The People:

"We have talked to both the player and his agent and they have insisted that Demba Ba is happy here and has no intention of leaving. He was married the day before he arrived here and his family are settled on Tyneside"

Should Liverpool be looking at Demba Ba?

Given his form, he'd probably be a success. Surely the the odds must be against the club signing two dud strikers from the same club in one year?

  1. Liverpool  are just dirt scum bags and need to find their own players

  2. Sorry forgot that you brought Ba though your academy.

  3. Try not to to show your ignorance by using the word "scumbag."  NFC did not want LFC to find their own players when they sold their other overpriced centre forward.  AS Gwillmott mentions you took BA when you found him available.  Speak sense or do not bother.

  4. If the 5mil is to be believed, why not?!

  5. Stoke said when they were going to buy him, his knee is a ticking time bomb!!!

  6. if Liverpool are scumbags then Newcastle must be a whole lot worse.

and 5 million is nothing in the terms of money weve got, even if he didnt succeed we still sell him for the same amount if not more...

  7. Lo have you lot not learned a lesson in buying players off us, we play a differet style of football to LFC and our players dont seem to work in yours. if Carroll came back home he would likely find form again in the stlye of play we use. I think Ba would be exactly the same for you. slightly cheaper of course but same end result. an Enrique ... not discovered the same form he had at NUFC either has he ... Proof is in the pudding #lessonstobelearned

  8. it would be great to make back some of the AC money, and to get one over on those market traders at NUFC. bring him on i say.

  12. I m sure Liverpool can afford the £10 millions. who do not know that LFC is rich right But Newcastle United is a poor club. When was the last time NUFC won any cup or titles?

  13. enrique's been excellent since he arrived!!!

  14. I've watched him playing for you this season, he is not playing as well as he did up here fact. he has lost a lot of the attacking style he had at NCL maybe not entirely but the way he worked with jonas when he wanted to push forward was second to none. dont see any of that from him now

  16. While newcastle have not won anything in recent history we have however produced some fatastic premier league history, during the entertainers era we were everyones second favorite team, we have one of the largest crowds in the UK and our fans are fantastic. as every player will tell you that has played for newcastle there is something very special about playing there as the fans are second to none and the atmosphere is electic at every game. not may teams can say they come to anfield and outsing the kop .... newcastle do it every year. we've not won anything yet but when we do this special club will go on to great things

  17. lol as you should know Naj, Newcastle are deffinatley a selling club .... but only if we're allowed to pull your eyes out on the fee!
35 million LMFAO, you got a good deal on enrique however his contract was soon to expire so we would have lost him for nothing by the end of this season so to get the 5 or 6 million was a bargain for us in the end.

  22. The problem with Ba is his knees...

Its well documented that he failed two medicals at two different clubs. He had what is considered a career ending procedure to put a screw into his knee.

One has to look at the Marveux signing...LFC medical staff were not happy with his medical results , yet NUFC were....forward a few months down the line and Marvuex has not started a game this season because of his groin injury.

We don't know how fit Ba is , we don't know what training regiment he is on , we don't know what kind of recovery he goes through at NUFC.... He could be a Ledley King clone for all we know , or a Bellamy that has to be wrapped in cotton wool between games.

5-7m is he worth that risk ?

He has had a good 12 months but there are just to many variables to consider. Remember we signed Carroll after his brilliant form at NUFC ... then after his injury he has still not hit the highs of 2010/11

Personally i would stay clear off Ba, there are enough good players out there starting with Jr Hoillet.

Loic Remy is a player that would compliment our squad very nicely.

  23. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys. Remember we pay 10 mil for Diouf 10 years ago. Not even monkeys only baby monkeys.

  24. Happy and settled on Tyneside ah well who wouldnt be ? Maybe Geordie Icon Michael Owen who zipped in and zipped out as quick as he could

  25. Totally agree. We cant afford to be taken anymore gambles. If we don’t sign an injury free proven goal scorer now we may forget about top 4.

Weve created the most chances in the league this season and have the joint best defence so I think it is realistic to say if we had a goal scorer we wouldn’t be 14 points off the top, it would be a lot closer.

  26. even though i'm a lfc fan i'd say after carrol performing so well at newcastle then so bad at liverpool i've come to the conclusion it's not how great the striker is as it apears when playing with newcastle its their quick play straight to the striker we play back far more and give their defence to much time but thats also why newcastle have conceaded more than us they get caught on the counter ( man u couldnt manage it though)
