RUMOUR MILL: Liverpool 'send scouts' to watch £28m Sociedad starlet...

In the latest in a seemingly endless conveyor belt of dubious transfer rumours, Liverpool have been linked with Real Sociedad's 20-year old defender Inigo Martinez.

According to The People, which doesn't cite any sources for its 'story', Liverpool have "sent scouts to watch the 20-year-old several times this season and will continue to monitor his form with a view to a bid in the summer".

Martinez, whose contract expires in 2015, reportedly has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave if Sociedad receive a £28m offer.

£28m for a 20 year old?! Get real. After the £35 wasted on Andy Carroll, I don't think that will be happening any time soon.

Real Madrid have allegedly offered Sociedad £14m 'plus a loan player', but the club apparently turned down the offer.

This story is probably BS, but if it isn't, I'd be disappointed to see Liverpool spend big bucks on a young, unproven defender, inexperienced defender.

If Kenny Dalglish is going to sign another defender it should (IMO) be a proven, experienced player who's ready to go straight into the first team.

  1. He has only just started playing this year in the first team but has scored 2 goals from his own half this season! He his only 5' 9"(1.76m) so he can't play CH in the premier league and we have Enrique at LB.
The Ramirez rumour is the better one and could give us a dazzling winger we are crying out for.

  2. We already have wilson n coates.....buy cahill or samba if we do need a cb.

  3. i cant see liverpool spending that amount of money on one player and i would imagine if they are then there will be a big name departing at the same time.

  4. As the transfer window approaches, there will be tons and tons of totally garbage rumours about Liverpool "linked to" some players.
The Anfield Wrap has a nice funny sketch about it. For those who wants a laugh.

  5. Can't for the life of me see why... and certainly not at that price!!
We have Carra and Coates to cover that area so I doubt it.

    Our priorities right now are,

DM - as cover for Lucas.
Striker - need one now, cant wait another 2-3 years waiting for Andy Carroll to 'gell'.
Winger - incredibly we still don't have an effective one.
