Former Leicester and Blackburn midfielder Robbie Savage is the latest in a long line of footballers and managers to name Liverpool star Steven Gerrard as one of the best players ever to grace the modern game.
Speaking to The Mirror, Savage had nothing but good things to say about Liverpool's captain:
"The best player I've ever played against is Steven Gerrard.
"I've played against Rivaldo and Ronaldo, but Gerrard was the ultimate midfielder for me, no question".
Rafa Benitez recently suggested that he'd rather have Gerrard in his team over Lionel Messi:
"It's easy to talk about Messi, but when Gerrard is fit he's one of the best too. He's different to the others - Messi has ability and he can score goals but Gerrard can do a lot of things".
High praise indeed, but when when Gerrard is fully-fit, he is an amazing player, and in his prime, he was probably one of the best players in the world.

"Probably" one of the best players in the world? Don't you mean "He is....."
ReplyDeleteGerrard is no longer in his prime, so (IMO) past-tense is correct.
ReplyDeletethere's loads of plyers better than gerrard not taking anything away from his ability original "Ronaldo" was the best striker ever
ReplyDeleteMessi is not the same without Xavi and Inesta on the field. Argentina results confirm.
ReplyDeleteGerrard does what he does without support. Hopefully, he'll come back strong and be a major factor for years to come.
I agree with Ali. Ronaldo. Best striker ever.
Big respect to Robbie but he didn't play many European matches in Champions League or UEFA Cup to claim this
ReplyDeleteWho knows whether gerrard is in his prime or not? Admittedly injured but every player goes through injury, but players mature or have their best years at DIFFERENT times. With the better quality we have in or squad these days..... What's to sat Stevie doesn't shine more?!? I fail to see how moron jk can determine whether a player is or isn't on their prime (not relying on averages as this is player specific). But yet again he can't stand anyone questioning his opinion..... Just like he will argue mine. By the way..... This is the first time I've commented on a jk article but I've read many. Is it just me or does most of the rubbish he spouts seem anti Liverpool? I personally cannot stand the moron
ReplyDeleteyou cant rule gerrard out just yet, yes he has been out for yet another 2 months after the infection but you watch with the bit of luck that everyone needs - gerrard is better on his day even when not reaching the very high levels of his game than say all but maybe 2 attacking players say david silva, modric even then id rather have a fit and well used gerrard than any other center midfielder or attacking player any day of the week!!!!
ReplyDeleteIf Gerrard is injury free he still has a big part to play in the team. His vision and understanding of the game takes away any pace he may have lost due to age. Nothing can take away his long distance shooting.
ReplyDeleteGerrard is the best player because of his versatility.
ReplyDeleteYou can probably play him in all positions including goal keeper.
That's the difference between Gerrard and all the other great players.
yes true, he had an injury which put him out for a while and he came back against manure and scored a cracker of a free kick which saved us! YNWA!
ReplyDeleteno offense, but gerrard is not am actual striker. he can play behind the striker or play striker but he is stationed in the midfield
ReplyDeletebut because of his many injuries we are not able to marvel at his wonder long shot or his killer free kick
ReplyDeleteHi I agree with Maria what experience does robbie have was he not at derby County when he made this dispicable remark that gerrard is better than ronaldo and Rivaldo???
ReplyDeleteIndeed Gerrard is amongst the best....but I honestly admired and missed Fernando Redondo...to me he was the best!!!
ReplyDeleteSheshham_Khan: He certainly played against Rivaldo for Wales. Dont know if he ran into Ronaldo? I notice, though, you've labelled his remark 'dEspicable' based on his on-field experience, so you've obviously formed an opinion based on yours. Remind me when you played against these 3? Rik of Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch
ReplyDeleteGerrard is the Special One for Liverpool. He kind of weave a magic wand on the team as captain.
ReplyDeleteSTEVIE G TOP CLASS AND WILL PLAY DEF.MID.TILL HE LUCAS GETS BACK OR TILL KENNY SEE'S FIT THEN WERE THE FUCK HE WANTS HE SHOULD FUCK ENGLAND OFF THOUGH
