KENNY DALGLISH confirms: "LFC don't need to buy anybody else..."

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva will miss the rest of the season through injury, and there have been suggestions that the club will have to buy someone in January as direct cover for the Brazilian. However, according to Kenny Dalglish, spending money on a Lucas replacement is not a realistic option.

In his weekly press conference yesterday, Dalglish confirmed:

"We've got adequate replacements here, and if we need [to buy] someone we'll have a look, but we don't need anybody I don't think".

Lucas's absence is undoubtedly a great opportunity for the likes of Jay Spearing and Jordan Henderson to stake their claim in the team, but Dalglish was keen to downplay the positives that comes from a player's injury:

"We're not going to start dancing on somebody's grave. At the end of the say the boy's injured.

"It's not career-threatening, but it's not helpful for ourselves, and we've just got to get on with it and accept it".

I totally agree - the last thing Liverpool need to do is buy more defensive-minded midfielders. If money is going to spent in January, it should (IMO) be on creative players: a 'fox in the box' striker; a proven attacking midfielder, or a prove attacking right-sided midfielder.

  1. We have a cracking natural replacement in Jay Spearing, he is a dog in midfield and loves a tackle, at Chelsea in the week he was excellent again. Henderson can do it too but he really likes to attack as does Jonjo!!!

  4. we need two wingers and a striker. All of them should be able to dribble, have reasonably good technique and should have a solid attitude.

Spearing is improving his passing and at times he has been more direct and creative with his passing than henderson or lucas. He isnt a natural but has worked hard enough to pass and shoot well with both feet, reasonable ball control and high energy. He is ready to have a long run in the team.

  5. we badly need a michael owen type player.
whether we can get one is another thing but if e'd had a natural finisher/goal poacher we'd be at least 6 or 7 points better off this season.

  6. Could it be possible that one of the reason why we,ve been defending so well is because we've had a guy in the middle that can break up play effectively and help to retain the shape of the team? Lucas is the one player we can't do without. We need to buy someone to do that job, however hopefully Jay Spearing will come good.

  7. Agreed Jamie, I do however, think that we still need a good winger, right side preferably. Someone who is quick, good positioning, crossing, skill...uno da drill. Because I dont think Kuyt is as effective as a natural winger. Which reminds of Pennant, although not a goalscorer I still think he was quite good .
