DALGLISH: Midfielder will NOT be returning to Anfield to cover Lucas...

Jonjo Shelvey is now back at Anfield after being recalled from his loan spell at Blackpool, but with Lucas out for the rest of the season, and Steven Gerrard still recovering from his injury, Liverpool are lacking real experience in midfield. Will Alberto Aquilani also be recalled?

In his weekly press conference a few minutes ago, Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish confirmed the following:

"I think if you look at the rules you'll see that it's not possible [to recall Aquilani]".

Aquilani's loan agreement stipulated that he cannot be recalled, so as Kenny suggests, it's a moot point.

In any event, Aquilani is doing really well for Milan at the moment, so I doubt he would've been happy to return anyway.

  4. I think Milan paid a fee for the loan.  Therefore he can't be recalled.

  6. Aquilani's performances at Milan actually are not so amazing....
He's just been showing to be an ordinary player, like many players Liverpool already has in their rooster. For example, Jonjo is not far from Aquilani's level, and He showed better standard for English Football than Aquilani. I can't understand why some fans (especially from abroad) are calling for Aquilani's return....

  7. the one thing about liverpool under KK is that the team ca ndeal without some of its best players as they play the same football and have the same commitment. Chelsea is the best example of this and also for periods last year when we played alot of young kids due to injury. Lucas is a sad loss and i think he is one of our best players, but as KK keeps saying we have a squad full of quality players who can come in and replace him. after all liverpool has changed from a team whereby we rely on two players to get us out of the crap. we now have a squad who are all pushing in the right direction and all understand that it is up to all of them to ensure we win games and not put their head in the sand if gerrard or torres was out!

  8. That position was supposed to be Aqualani after we sold Alonso to Real Madrid but because of his injury, Lucas was brought in. Now give back his position and we'll whar he can do, or he had shown what he can do either.

  9. why are people worried we have a perfect replacement for lucas the one guy who deserved his chance at the start of the season, SPEARING he came in last season and we didn't notice gerrard missing what more can the guy do hopefully he will get his chance, he controls a game, plays  simple passes, always wants the ball and never gives up the guy is brilliant but underated

  10. Lucas is a defensive midfielder/anchorman. The only player in the reserves that can take this position is Conor Coady. Not Spearing, not Aquilani, not Shelvey! But my bet is Dalglish will change to a 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 with 2 central midfielders. However this will put a heavier burden on our Back 4.

  13. How would you happen to know it is especially fans from abroad calling for Aquilani's return?

Shouldn't fans just be called fans without any segregation, after all strip out this international element of liverpool support and you will reduce Liverpool to the size of the likes of Aston Villa who have good support but is a mid tier club in terms of fan base and can only dream of attaining the exposure Liverpool has.

  14. can assure you that we true supporters (Internationally) are more aware and knowledgable of all european leagues as we get full coverage than most.
i do not agree that Aquilani is required back at LFC as he is more than happy playing in his homeland with AC Milan.
Try to be more discreet when refering to TRUE OVERSEAS LIVERPOOL SUPPORTERS MY FRIEND..........YNWA

  15. give martin kelly a go in the holding role, he used to be a midfielder and we know that he is composed and will put a solid performance in every week!he's perfect mobile, strong, can play with his head up,plays the percentages, what everyone think?

  16. A pity. I always wanted Aquilani to stay and thought this present predicament would help get him back but I see that that will not now be the scenario - alas! To continue I have to say that if this is a so-called disaster then what was all the kerfuffle about "depth in midfield"? As I see it we have sufficient players that , with suitable care and direction ,

are fullt capable of filling the role. That is not saying that they will fill as thoroughly effective as Lucas but it IS what they are there for. We must remember that we are still re-building and cannot expect to fly until we can walk with serious effect! It will come good and we should bear with the tribulations along the way.

  17. Shelvey??? Shelvey??? this kid is awful.  A complete liability, gives the ball away and never passes the ball forward always backward passes.  I don't why KD has a soft spot for him.

  19. Jonjo is quite a clever player, but something that he lacks is pace or acceleration which many times works against him. However all other attributes he has makes up for that, hope he can step up.
