According to a sourceless and quoteless article in 'The People', Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Real Madrid's Mesut Ozil, allegedly with a view to signing the player at some point in the near future.
Ozil has come in for some major criticism from the press after his performance in the 3-1 defeat to Barcelona last week.
El Mundo Deportivo scathed that Ozil 'only plays well for the national team', and Marca printed that the midfielder had been given some kind of ultimatum by the Madrid management team.
I personally think the story is fake, but The People used absolute language to report the rumour, which perhaps suggests that they may have a concrete source:
"Liverpool WILL monitor Mesut Ozil’s situation at Real Madrid after Jose Mourinho gave the midfielder a stark ultimatum.
"Damien Comolli WILL keep an eye on developments and if Real signal they are willing to sell, then the Reds’ director of football WILL propose a deal".
The tactics are obvious: find some info about a top player allegedly having trouble at his club, then link him to one or more Premier League clubs.
Real or fake? What do you think?

a simple question...if you think the story is fake, why put it up?
ReplyDeleteYou obviously haven't been following this series. Look at the label above the headline: 'fake transfer rumour series' - I want to highlight all fake transfer rumours.
ReplyDeleteGive them a break. They have to print something that won't sound uninteresting. It's a difficult job trying to make news when there aren't any.
ReplyDeleteKKenny will not buy him when he has better already at the club in the form of Henderson and Adam..maybe they could buy Adam off us for 30million plus Ozil and alonso in return..
ReplyDeleteHave you seen how many players we have been linked with in the last week? It makes journalists(Term loosely) look stupid they don't even follow up the rumour with any evidence in the following days like a picture of a scout in the crowd or a quote but link us with another player instead!
ReplyDeleteOzil must be the best one so far especially for £18 million !
'Make news'. Sums it up perfectly. Their job should be to report the news. Not make it up. If you want fiction get yourself down to Waterstones.
ReplyDeleteYou are very cool, man. like it
ReplyDeleteWhen there's nothing concrete to report do you expect them to leave the pages blank? release a newspaper/internet article with an apology "sorry, nothing to report, maybe tomorrow"?
ReplyDeleteJaimie obviously jealous and trying to 'steal' hits
ReplyDeleteCynically putting Liverpool linked with Real Madrid star in the headline knowing it will get attention... even though he pretends to slag the actual story.
Yes, I would like that very much.
ReplyDeleteIs it just a ploy for traffic?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Im curious.
It seems you used to be very analytical, but recently have turned to stuff like this.
Why the change?
iF oZIL COMES THERE IS NO PLAce for Lucas.
ReplyDeleteOzil plays wing or striker where else lucas is a defensive midfielder...completely different position...do you at least know what you are talking about???
