Is Craig Bellamy right about this LFC legend's goalscoring weakness?

Craig Bellamy is the latest in a long line of great attacking players to strut their stuff at Anfield, and since returning to the club, the Welsh international has played an integral role in helping Liverpool' rediscover its 'pass and move' footballing philosophy. Fellow Welshman Ian Rush is arguably Liverpool's greatest ever striker, but Bellamy has a slightly different view on Rush's ability.

In a recent interview with LFC TV, Bellamy argued:

"Ian Rush was great but he needed players in certain positions to enable him to score..."

Bellamy (inadvertently) devalues Rushie's talent here by suggesting that he was only effective because of other players in the team. Is he right?

For me, Bellamy is wrong here. You don't score 346 goals for Liverpool by just waiting around for your team-mates to create goals for you. Rushie's positioning, finishing, movement and ability to find space/goalscoring positions was unsurpassed (IMO).

None of that is easy; Rush just made it look easy, and that's the genius of the man.

  6. Jaimie, this article is ANCIENT HISTORY. It is amazing the amount of ground you cover just to write an article of little value.

  7. Actually, Torres made these particular comments only a few days ago. If you don't like this sit then go elsewhere. Any further comments bitching about non-football related stuff will be deleted.

  8. Is there any reason you release 3 different heading descriptions for each story?

  9. Jamie K, u are such a self absorbed bell end. People only visit this site (as u know) as u evoke heated debate. I click on these articles time and time again as they seem interesting only to remember that u are a cock.

  10. I reckon Bellamy needs to look again at the goals Rush scored they were n't just 6 yard tap ins, he created space for Kenny and others to play the ball into if he had n't Kenny would have run up blind avenues and given the ball away.
As we are finding out this season you can create 30 chances in a game but if you have n't got someone to tuck it away all the creativity is wasted.

  12. never one to curtail your own thoughts or feelings about "quotes" from others, whilst putting the best possible spin on one of your stories. Any body questions your slant/view, you spit your dummy out an threaten to delete them. I think you need to man up or consider another vocation. One that doesn't invoke discussion or differing points of view!
