Liverpool loanee Jonjo Shelvey scored a hat-trick for Blackpool tonight as they demolished Leeds 5-0.
Shelvey has scored 5 goals and grabbed 1 assist in 6 games for for Blackpool now, which is a brilliant return, and it's looking like Kenny Dalglish's decision to send him out on loan is turning out to be a good one.
Meanwhile, 20m pound winger Stewart Downing hasn't managed a single goal or assist in 11 games for Liverpool.
Looks we've got the wrong midfielder starting every week at Anfield; perhaps Downing should go on loan ;-)

First of all - hardly great goals were they Jaimie?
ReplyDeleteI think if any manager would start Shelvey over Downing they would be absolutely insane. Enough said. They don't even play the same position. What was the point of this article except to create some kind of negativity towards Downing, and towards Kenny for loaning out Shelvey?
I know you like to stir up trouble wherever you can find it. I could have scored those goals - a penalty, a tap-in and a goal at the end when every Blackpool player was in the other half of the field. I think Shelvey is a prospect but I really don't see the point in this article.
Leave Downing alone Kanwar..he will come good
ReplyDeleteCan't compare this player to Downing. But he has the ability to contribute in a game. Whenever he was subbed in, he had arrogance and good positional sense for Liverpool. For a player with those qualities at a young age gives them a good foundation to become star players. I believe he is a better player than Henderson in terms of potential because even though Henderson played more minutes, Shelvey never used to disappear in a game. He should be given the same amount of chances as Henderson. He needs to be believed in as Henderson has been. If Carroll or Downing warrants a starting place why cant Shelvey.
ReplyDeleteFair play to the lad he took his goals well. However I just don't rate Shelvey, he reminds me of Danny Murphy which isn't the type of quality that will take us where we want to go. Looks like he's playing up front for Blackpool which probably won't benefit us when he's asked to jump into a defensive midfield slot when he returns.
ReplyDeleteJust to add Downing will never come good mainly because he plays in straight lines down the left and has no variation or flair to his game. With players like Ronaldo and Ribery we expect the unexpected. When the Ronaldo has no idea what he's going to do next then I'm damned if the opposing fullback does. When downing plays on the left he is kick and run with no hint of a plan b. Downing is no better than Steve Guppy or Matthew Etherington.
He looks leadfooted. Not familiar with Shelvey, is he one of those deceptively quick players?
ReplyDeleteGive him all the xposure and esperience needed before he come back to us. He's definately better than Lucas.
ReplyDeleteLucas and Shelvey should not even be compared. Their functions in the teams they play are completely different.
ReplyDeleteWe sold Thomas Ince and Gerardo Bruna to Blackpool in the summer, now Jonjo is doing well there. Could we send Adam Morgam, Suso and Sterling to them as well???. They play football so i don't see a problem and it would toughen our kids up too!!!!
ReplyDeleteDowning will come good. Constant swipes and snipes are not constructive. Sure, his return is not yet what it should be, but he has proven quality and it should become more evident. In the meantime, I don't see the point in having a dig at every turn. Delighted for Shelvey but you're really stretching your credibility trying to link him with your anti-Downing issue.
ReplyDeleteOn a separate issue, my real gripe is with Roy Hodgson; he bought quite a few duds when Van Der Vaart was available for less money combined. Harry stepped in and took him to Spurs for 8 million quid. What a brilliant bargain! Really pisses me off that the Dutch wizard is not wearing the 'Bird. He was there for us. Bummer. I hope West Brom get relegated.
Im sure WBA fans are enjoying Roy's brand of football eh?????
ReplyDeleteI dont see Liverpool winning anything this season with Lucas playing.
ReplyDeleteOpen your eyes!!!!
ReplyDeleteAshfah is Lucas's ex-girlfriend whom he dumped!
ReplyDeleteProven?
ReplyDeleteAshfah you need to catch up. 'Open season' on Lucas was two years ago. If you didn't bitch and moan then you missed you're opportunity because he's matured into a quality player. People who criticize Lucas and his role in the side give me all the evidence I need about whether or not they understand fully how the game of football works. Granted, Lucas wasn't made for highlights on match of the day but knowledgeable fans know his worth. Lucas 21, got your back kid.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone was privilegedto see Shelveys previous game in which he should of got red carded and was bloody terrible he doesnt appear me as a star of the future.
ReplyDeleteShelvey is one of the best 19 year olds I have ever seen play in the English top flight .
ReplyDeleteHowever 2 or 3 good games on loan at a low pressure club in a lower league does not a player make .
Its good experience for him & if he treats it as such , namely its another step on the road to him fulfilling his potential & becoming a regular starter in Liverpools Team ?
Maybe by the time he is 25 it will be impossible not to pick him .
As for anyone slagging off Downing or any of our new arrivals ?
Would they rather we started with Maxi & Kuyt again ?
That didnt work out too well last season but apparently short memorys are all the rage among Goldfish , seeing as they have tiny brains either that or they want to see us in another relegation threatened state ?
