STEVE NICOL: "That's the one thing Kenny Dalglish will not do..."

Having played under him for 8 years, Anfield legend Steve Nicol knows all about Kenny Dalglish's managerial qualities, and he is convinced that the King is strong enough to handle the criticism coming his way recently as a result of several underwhelming performances.

Nicol, who was at Liverpool for 14 years, and also played alongside Dalglish in the mid-1980s, argued:

"The one thing Kenny will not do is shirk away from criticism. If the team is doing well and he's getting clapped, he'll take it, big time, but he'll stand up and take it when they're not doing so well, so don't think for a second that he's not thinking about doing something here [in response to several home draws]".

Like most Liverpool fans, Nicol can't wait until club captain Steven Gerrard is back in the first team:

"Having Steven gerrard fit and able to play every game, or bring him on whenever you want, is huge for Liverpool. Considering he's missed 6 or 7 months of the previous season [sue to injury] is not good news. It's worrying because he really is the key to Liverpool getting into the top 4"

Overall, Nicol remains optimistic about the future, and he's sure things will start to improve on the goal-scoring front sooner rather than later:

"I would not be optimistic if they weren't creating chances; if they weren't creating chances they'd be in serious trouble, but it's only a matter of time before someone starts hitting the net"

  3. Ray is keeper with no peers during his heyday. Shilton comes second much of the courtesy from the famous "hand of God' by Maradonna.
