Lineup vs. CHELSEA: Downing and Carroll dropped; Maxi and Bellamy start

It what is definitely (IMO) the right decision, Kenny Dalglish has dropped Stewart Downing and Andy Carroll for this afternoon's game against Chelsea.

Full line up:

Reina, Enrique, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Lucas, Adam, Kuyt, Maxi, Bellamy, Suarez

Subs: Doni, Downing, Carroll, Carragher, Henderson, Kelly, Spearing.

Dalglish has clearly gone for a more technical, ball-playing line-up, and I think the selection is spot-on.

It's no surprise that Maxi starts; he also started last season's 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool play 3 at the back like they did last season, but I can't see how with the players selected for the game.

I think we'll see the following formation:

----------------------- Reina

Johnson ----------- Skrtel - Agger --------- Enrique,

--------------------- Lucas - Adam

Kuyt -------------------- Maxi ----------------- Bellamy

------------------------ Suarez

  2. Downing, Carroll, Henderson, 75million spent and cannot even get into the team...KK finally sees sense and plays the team bar Adam who played so well last year under kk.Maxi a player who scored 10 goals last season and kk wouldn't play him...but guess what play him and he'll put the ball in the back of the net.....unlike some so called over the odds crappp...

  3. bellamy didnt play last yr too.......wheres all those who say maxi is the worst player to have played for lfc....first start and goal......kk hope you play this team more often and you might see an improvement...............play the carrols and hendersons and downings in the carling cup or reserves because thats where they belong.

Maxi had an open goal to aim at, even Carra would have been able to put that ball away.

Other than that Maxi and Kuyt have not done much attacking wise. Kuyt gave the ball away on quite a few occasions and Maxi disapeared for a while.

How many shots at goal did we have in the first half with Maxi and Kuyt as part of our attack?

Adam has been brilliant though, how nice of him to win the ball that gave us the goal.

Now lets see what Kuyt and Maxi can do about things now that Chelsea have scored?

  6. adam, johnson, lucas all played well, 9 games unbeaten. level on points with chelsea and KK is supposed to be clueless!!!

  7. have you seen enough ....the two guys you cannot stand....johnson and maxi...just hating them because RAFA BENITEZ signed them......what you got to say now.....play the players who are worthy of wearing the shirt....well done KK for playing the players you did today.....a big man is the one who admits his mistakes and trys to make amends

did you see when clumsy came on...he reminds me of Ryan Babel

  8. Maxi had an open goal to aim at, even Carra would have been able to put that ball away........???? u sure about that???? ............if carra could put that ball away, he would be a striker and we wouldn't have signed a 35mil donkey...and even you have to admit he couldn't have put that ball away and neither could Downing....the guy who has had 15 shots on goal in the last 4 games and yet not even one was on TARGET.....

  9. Adam has been brilliant though, how nice of him to win the ball that gave us the goal.....CARRAGHER could have won that ball too....or does that only apply to players that BENITEZ signed....

maxi top player 1 start 1 goal and 1 sub appearance.....................
    downing 11 starts.....0 goals...0 assists.............

  10. I do not like Johnson as a defender, have said many times that he is a better attacker and it showed today. I have constantly said he should be playing down the wing so I reckon that is 1-0 to me.

Now to Maxi, sorry mate but his goal was the only thing he contributed to the match and that is normally the case. Maxi normally has 15 or so good minutes and rest of the match he is nowhere to be seen. Like i said, even Carra would have been able to put the ball away with no defenders in sight.

Kuyt is just getting worse as the days go by. How he managed to stay on the field for 90 minutes is beyond me.

    Please answer the following question...

What did Maxi contribute to the match ATTACKING WISE other than the goal he scored?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Johnson played as a RB today so not 1-0 to you

I don;t think Maxi's finish was that simple either, he took it well

  13. An easy goal for Maxi, still the key is to get in that position.  Maxi was our best converter of clear cut chances last season too: 57% compared to league average of 35%.  This tells a lot and this is exactly what we have missed so far this season: smart positioning in front of goal, cool heads, and great link-up with other players (which Maxi offers).  That said, great work by the team: Adam, Suarez, Belamy, and ultimately Maxi.

  14. even if easy, the guy gets into positions well, links with other players, and keeps a cool head.  Maxi scored 8 goals in his last 5 EPL starts.  as noted above, Maxi - the best converter of clear cut chances last season too by achieving 57% compared to league average of 35%.

  15. If he scored twice you'd say what did he do except score twice..... Give it a rest

  16. Great result and chelsea could not beat us with the two scum bags torres anf meireles..
What are chelsea going to do now....bid for maxi & Glen in the jan transfer window hahaha
    Sweet sweet revenge....

    ReplyDelete
  17. Well it sure as hell did not look like he was going to score twice and he sure as hell did nothing but score one.

    ReplyDelete
  18. ha ha

note, the last 7 PL goals that Liverpool have scored v Chelsea have all been scored by current Chelsea players! (Torres, Meireles & Bosingwa o/g)

so yes, Mr. Abramovich, go and buy Maxi and Glen :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. So Mali341, where has your hatred gone now towards Adam?

    Fake Plastic Trees...

    ReplyDelete
  20. well, to be more precise after today's game: of the last 9 goals, 8 have been scored by ex or current Chelsea players :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. So Mali341, why are you so quite about Adam all of a sudden?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I know he played at RB, my point is that further up the field he will be more useful to us with his attacking ability?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Maxi and Glen. Two of Benitez's dead weights, right Jimmy?

    ReplyDelete
  24. So what did Adam do in the game apart from spectacularly win the ball back and dribble past half of the chelsea team and play a 50 yard through ball when he could easily have scored. ....oh ye did you see how Adam kept Essien out of the game....even though he wasn't playing...but if it makes you happy we'll pretend he did and also Adam scored a hatrick too.

Well done Kk for the brave and simple decisions today..

  25. Very true, we have struggled to put away the chances this season. We have created more chances this season than any other team but City.

The only match where we have scored more than 2 goals in the league this season was against Bolton so I think your analogy of Maxi being exactly what we need is being a bit suspect. If he showed clear intent of getting another goal in this match which there was none of from Maxi after he scored then I would feel a bit more positive with your comments. Not taking his goal away from him at all, he took his chance and it paid off for us.

  26. Great TEAM performance no one let the team down today all of them  found the extra needed to win today. Glen Johnson still Englands number 1 right back!

  27.
Do I even need to answer your question about Adam? Waste of time really.

See you still can't answer my question about Maxi?

    ReplyDelete
  28. i am not a fan of adam and personally i dont rate him but he played brilliantly today and if he plays like that more often he will be worth a lot more than 8 mil

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maxi scored 8 goals in his last 5 PL starts.  I would agree he is not a natural finisher, yet he links up well with other players, gets in positions, and recently happens to score.  He is not flashy but is a smart, disciplined player with good control on the ball, not a "headless chicken" type, for sure.  I think he desrves more time on the field and hope he will get it, not insisting he should be starting every game...

Intent is a bit elusive to define, I am looking at the end product, and the guy delivers.

And I really do not understand the negativity against him.

  30. i love kuyt has had some great times with lfc but for his own good i think it is time for him to move as much as i hate to say it

    ReplyDelete
  31. i still like raul he is a top player and i dont blame him for leaving. He was on 30,ooo a week which is nothing for a player of his abilities and was being benched for adam!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Maxi has been great under Kenny because he does n't expect him to play like a winger and hug the touch line but play more on the inside and support the forwards more same with Kuyt and be their for that extra pass to tuck the ball away  on the back post.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Agree with you on Johnson...i think kk might have finally found his best 11 today bar Gerrard who will come in for Adam when fit

    ReplyDelete
  34. Anyone who doesn't rate Adam doesn't know anything about football

He has even upped his game with us, he's fitter and winning more tackles besides his genius standard repertoire of passing

    ReplyDelete
  35. So he did nothing BESIDES scoring a goal, the single most important contribution a footballer can make in a match

    Get a grip

    ReplyDelete
  36. Downing is at fault again, sets up Kuyt for a sitter but no goal!!! (Sarcasm)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Exactly. Both cut inside, create and exploit space and play simple "pass and move" game, Maxi being much more comfortable on the ball than Kuyt.  It is really beyond me why Maxi's time on the PL pitch has been reduced to almost 0 before the Chelsea game.  Maybe KK is building for the future and Maxi's being 30+ is the problem.  Or maybe KK has a bigger role for him after the first third of the season... We will see.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Adam will not be replaced by anyone, not even Gerrard

    ReplyDelete
  39. include Torres and Meireles and today's benches might well have been the most expensive so far this season :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Raul Meireles can only blame himself or his agent for not negotiating a better deal or for not inserting appearance / performance related clauses to force an increase in wages if deserved

He is an excellent player alright, when exactly was he benched for Adam?? They were both only around for a few competitive matches at a time when Liverpool probably knew Raul was looking to leave..........

What's your problem with Adam? He's the closest thing to Alonso in English football these days. I guess you probably play Championship Manager or something

    ReplyDelete
  41. Adam just needs to learn when to pass the ball when he goes on a run which he does with great style but just holds onto it to long. Going to be the most difficult decision for Kenny when Gerrard his fit who to drop.
That forward line is by far our most potent Suarez,Kuyt and Maxi showed last season what they can do and then throw Bellamy in we have everything you need Pace Bellamy,Skill Suarez,Work Rate Kuyt and Goals from Maxi!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Your not a fan of Adams, but hold no grudge with Meireles...I think ur a bit weird and gave a classic example of some eating their words....book into a rehab if i waz u!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Downing has done everything for club and country to get an assist I bet he has run out of ideas now for someone to tuck one away!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Maxi's run in the first couple of minutes when Terry gave Maxi one in the face when they were battling for the ball set the tone of the first half up for us and our game plan.
