Former Newcastle and West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has dismissed Liverpool's chances of making it into the top 4 this season.
Hislop believes that Liverpool fans are suffering from a 'rose-tinted glasses' perspective on what the team can achieve under Kenny Dalglish this season:
"I think everybody thought 'Kenny Dalglish is back and we're going to win the title', but nothing could be further from the truth.
"You can't get instant success that way in today's football, and only the most rose-tinted glasses Liverpool fan would think so".
Hislop didn't mince his words when it came to Liverpool's top 4 chances:
"I don't think anybody really thinks Liverpool will get into the top 4.
"It was always going to be a push for them, especially given how poor they were over the last couple of seasons, and given the spending of Man City, Chelsea and Man United.
"The draws at home are not good enough for Liverpool FC. They're getting better; they're better than last season, but top 4? No".
Hislop is entitled to his opinion, but I still think Liverpool can make the top 4. As long as the club is in or very near the top 4 in January, there's still a chance.

Shaka must still be bitter about Kenny buying Given at Newcastle and pushing him out of the door on a free transfer.
ReplyDeleteOf course we have a chance of fourth even third i feel. spurs are looking good at the moment but they are a hot and cold team and arsenal are still not that convincing at the back. What we cant afford to do is to lose the next two games otherwise that just might leave us with a lot to do especially if spurs and arsenal were to win their next two games.
ReplyDeleteI think we can even push for second especially the way we beat arsenal and held manure and now manure are stuttering so second is no problem.
ReplyDeleteEarly days yet but we do need to turn these draws into wins at home.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it time other proven squad players got a fair chance? Remember Maxi's hat-tricks last season. Bellamey has pace and aggression to cause havoc but we perservere with Downing who started well but faded, Hendo who looks to have arrived 2 years too soon for us and don't get me started on Carroll (Slow, lazy, Immobile lump)
Why didn't we keep the heart of the team that did so well at the end of last season and build on those players? I have got to say only Suarez and Enrique have improved us imo. If we dont get into europe again I am afraid our best players may be tempted to leave?
Suarez scoring FOUR for Uruguay he will carry on when he gets back.
ReplyDeleteShaka who?????
ReplyDeleteYour having a laugh aren't you? In the last 3 years we have lost so much ground on Utd & Chelsea and now City and Spurs have much better squads than us.
ReplyDeleteArsenal are currently on a good run but we dont know how long that will last and Newcastle have several tough matches on the way so I am sure we will pass them.
Look at our results, they are just not top 4 results. The rot of the last few years is taking its toll. Carra and Stevie are on there way down and the new players dont have the class of Torres, Mascherano, Alonso ete etc.
so you consider one defeat stuttering? i wish we could 'stutter' like that!
ReplyDeletethe genuine contenders can play quite badly (like utd & chelsea) yet still be up there, grinding out results!
sorry but i'm with william on this one (apart from the stevie G part) i don't see us making the CL this season unless we get some REAL quality in january
ReplyDeleteI dont think we'll get top four either! Looking at it realistically, there's some good sides about that want it more than we do. We're a work in progress and its gonna take time to get to where we want to be. Time is not on our side though and my only fear is that it's not gonna happen quickly enough for the likes of Reina et al, who i can see going in the summer when we dont get in.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that footballers dont have the patience to make success and earn it they just want to arrive at it. Eg Barca (Mascherano). Suarez will be next as his girlfriend is from Barcelona and it's only a matter of time until they come knocking! The main reason I believe we wont get the 4th spot is we've bought poorly, we've paid top shelf money for second tier players. I just hope that Carra's and Gerrards spirit rubs off on some off these new boys quick because their attitude against Swansea was disgraceful, some so called seasoned pro's looked like they didn't care and i'm sorry but thats not good enough for me and it's certainly not going to get us into the top four.
Not with players like Lucas.
ReplyDeleteThis idiot appears to know less than Jamie Kanwar when it comes to LFC.
ReplyDeletemali341 is having a laugh he his hoping to turn round and say I told you so.
ReplyDeleteHe's probably a little pissed that Kenny replaced Tino Asprilla with Staphane Guivarc'h as well.
ReplyDeleteThe lad is a realist.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately there are definitely four teams/squads better than ours in the premiership. We'll need a lot of luck to get that fourth spot. The type of luck in fact Downing, Henderson and Carroll got got when they joined us.
ReplyDeleteIt can either way they will start finishing chances and play for 90 minutes or the wheels will fall off completly and we will get relagated and mali341 can still say i told you so.
ReplyDeleteChelsea are not looking great (Torres 50mil seems to be the biggest flop ever?). UTD needed an own goal to beat Sunderland. Spurs always have defensive problems and Arsenal are screwed without RVP. Newcastle have been the surprise package this season. City are the clear winners at the moment.
ReplyDeleteIs there a chance that we can finish 4th, why would it not be possible?. We have a decent size squad and if we can just find 2nd gear then the rest will follow. We are also only 3 points behind Chelsea.
Our next two matches Chelsea away and City home will probably determine where we finish this season.
It's November and we're 3 points off the top four, that's a hellava lot better than where we were this time last season. We play Chelski next who if we beat puts us in a top 4 position (at least until Monday evening) on the basis Arsenal don't whip Norwich away from home. Newcastle are away at City so you've got to reckon their unbeaten run will come to an end that day. Of the four teams realistically chasing 2 of the top four positions (Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool & Tottenham) Chelsea and Liverpool have over the past 7 seasons have faired better in the second half of the season. Furthermore, Liverpool will have the added advantage of not playing European football which will start to take its toll as the season progresses. I agree that Liverpool are a long way off contending for the title and require at least 4 more world class players (2 central defenders, one winger and one striker) but they are certainly capable of making the top four and I believe they will. Our form may not be great at the minute but we're far more attacking than we have been for some time, are the third highest team in terms of shots on goal this season (after City & Chelsea) and we're winning games away from home. Our own home form will improve so I am very upbeat that we will all be singing from a different hymn sheet in five months from now. Watch this space!
ReplyDeletemali341 did you see the England team beat Spain?
ReplyDeleteWe're not good enough simple as!
ReplyDeleteKKenny should sell the four donkeys and recoup if lucky 30 million and buy Jesus navas for 15-20 million and buy Forlan aswell to partner Suarez
ReplyDeleteteam would be
---------------.........------reina
Kelly(Johnson)........skrtl (carra)....agger(coates)....enrique
:----------------------Lucas(spearing )
-------navas(Kuyt)..........gerrard .........bellamy(maxi)..
---------------------Forlan .......Suarez
shaka who?? who ever this bloke is on current performances he is right. man who r better manc city better, chelski are just about better and spurs made us look stupid.
ReplyDeleteso yeah he is right as is goes.
its in our hands to prove the doubters wrong as usual
Stéphane Guivarc'h a player who had just played in and won a World Cup scored 21 goals in 32 games for Auxreer, Frances Golden Boot Winner and Uefa Cup Golden Boot Winner!
ReplyDeleteOr an unpredictable Columbian play boy with a record of 9 goals in 48 league games in THREE YEARS who would now and again show some brillance like against Barcelona.
You would have thought Kenny would have been onto a winner but that is the risk of the transfer market buying British or Foreign!
Hey mali341 did you see England beat Spain?
ReplyDeleteI thought repeatedly quoting Collymore was as low as one could go
ReplyDeleteYes we beat Spain and your right it was Henderson who set up Carroll to smash the winner. ..Spain were lucky Capello didn't bring downing on any earlier otherwise we'd have given em a property hiding .
ReplyDeleteA bit below the belt ....lol
ReplyDeleteYes and did you see Carroll score.??
ReplyDeleteWell put
ReplyDeleteGreat defensive disciplined display by those expensive english players!
ReplyDeleteApart from the expensive donkeys we signed the rest of the England team is worth what was paid for them...
ReplyDeletesecond no problem???? wat r u on id be happy with 4th man u is miles ahead of us we draw at home to swansea and norwich how do u think we will get second right now spurs and arsenal are worrying me especially arsenal rvp is carrying their team to Cl
ReplyDeleteI think the top 4 will be in this order 1. Man city 2. man united 3. Chelsea 4.Lfc 5. arsenal 6. spurs
Changing that tune are n't we :)
ReplyDeleteyour completly right. I think suarez will eventually be as good as torres was on his best day but carrol, downing, skrtel, adam, not good enough i think enrique was a great buy and hendo will eventually grow into a player that will reach the league alonso is in and lucas is perfect replacement for masch but kenny's buys have worried me if he kepps going like this and doesnt make top 4 he will be sacked but what lfc need right now is the german mentality solid defense with great counter attacking and perfect passing
ReplyDeleteBent 24million or donkey 35million...who's worth it
ReplyDeleteAdam Johnson 5million or Henderson 20million
Downing 20million or walcott 12million
Adam(Charlie) 8 million or Scott parker 5million
now tell me who signed class who got donkeys instead
You would n't say Shay Given was a brilliant young signing by Dalglish for Newcastle 10 years Newcastles Number 1?
ReplyDeleteshut up i wanna call u so many things right now lucas has been the model in our team everyone should follow hard working great at breaking up play and great player in general its lfc fans like u who are a shame to our great club without lucas our defense is exposed and carra agger cant do everything go. support a plastic traitor mercenary club like chelsea
ReplyDeleteHow am i changing the tune...from day 1 have said we signed wrong players and have been ripped off and your argument was that we paid over the odds because they were British ...we signed the wrong English ...fact.....
ReplyDeleteforlan too old we wont get navas for 15-20 mil he is the heart and soul of sevilla
ReplyDeleteno
ReplyDeleteWas being sarcastic ..will be lucky if we finish 5th
ReplyDeleteThat England performance Henderson and Carroll would of seen and if they want to go to the Euros next year they are going to have up their game, it was the best thing to happen for us an England win.
ReplyDeleteHenderson would have seen Jones and Rodwell jump in front of him and Carroll would have seen Welbeck make an impression don't you agree?
Agree with you but do you really think it will happen
ReplyDeleteWhat if we offered them Carroll and Henderson and downing as well as 20million??.
ReplyDeleteLiverpool are the sixth best team in the premier league. Their fans dont like hearing the truth, they still think its 1984.
ReplyDeleteTheres no such thing as a big four anymore. In no particular order its Utd, City, Chelsea - big gap - the rest. Liverpool are the third favourites to finish fourth. And that is not going to change for many, many years.
Henderson for sure,Carroll might take more working on though!
ReplyDeleteJj be honest wasn't Downing absolutely crapp tonight....did he look like a 20million player
ReplyDeleteHe was £20 million because Villa paid £12 million to get him they were never going to let him go on the cheap.
ReplyDeleteWe are to slow at picking up any decent young English players at a cheap price all those West Ham boys that Houllier missed out on Joe Cole,Johnson and Defoe ,Rafa missed out on the Leeds boys Milner and Lennon, Adam Johnson from Middlesbrough.
Now Kenny has splashed out big on them and they are struggling.
I am in the year 1987 actually we have just drawn against Wimbledon 1 all with Houghton scoring:) Play the Manure next game away!
ReplyDeleteExactly.
ReplyDeletewouldn't be enough.
ReplyDeleteSorry... until we get the quality of players like yaya toure or essien in our midfield we will struggle to make top 4 or chance of winning the league. With theses type of players they dont just break up opposing play but can run up and down the field and score goals which we need desperately. I've been watching liverpool since the 80's and if we keep buying average maybe players at silly prices ( panic buys due not bring in the champions league and hence trying to get what ever we can. Why is it our success rate in the transfer market has been so bad compared to others teams above us. over the past 11 years all previous liverpool managers have bought more crap then good and myself as a liverpool fan have more confidence in managers like wenger and ferguson when it comes to buying players. i hope kenny can also build that kind reputation at liverpool otherwise the owners will only support him for so long. man city were not in the champions league when they started buying world class players. No excuse, we have to start buying the best players from 2012 similar to the calibre of suarez in other positions otherwise reina, suarez will leave next summer and we will fall behind even further. Already majority of teams do not fear anfield and sorry to say but money talks in todays football...look at man u, chelsea and man city. Honestly...newcastle form will not last and man city have too much quality for them to fall behind now. Players like downing who is meant to be at his peak and not worth more then 8m is not helping our cause and where is our owen, fowler, torres type in the box goal scorer. Sorry but some players have let kenny down and hence why agger has had to come out and slate the team. Good on u mate......for once someone showing some passion. We need to stop spoon feeding some players and kenny needs to act quickly before he also becomes a victim of a declining club that once ruled the english game!!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, a negative article about Liverpool from Jaimiek. This blog stinks of one thing, and that is generating cash from adsense.
ReplyDeleteIt is irrelevant what a player like Shaka thinks. What does he know, a player with his abilities wouldent know what it takes to make top4.
Man city, Man Utd, Tottenham, Chelsea, Newcastle, Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa. Thats how it finishes. As a life long Red this is the thrid consecutive useless season for me. I only hope that KK is not there next season, I think he's stuck in the past.
ReplyDeleteWhat if we threw Adam in aswell
ReplyDeleteSo newcastle finish above us and le arse....lifelong fan of what? Spagetti your a sad little man go back to the Red Cafe ..
ReplyDeletewe at home love forlan but to include him into lp line up you lost your marbles forlan is no longer that powerfull player anymore...
ReplyDeletethey'd get relagated.
ReplyDeleteonly jokin Charlie.
How old are you i_only_hoped? You are wrong about a lot of things and have little faith. Last season wasn't rubbish under Kenny, he saved us from humiliation. Look how we play now and where we are in the league compared to this time last year.
