Manchester United's Wayne Rooney may be an unfortunate mixture of Evertonian and Manc, but that doesn't stop him from appreciating the brilliance of Kenny Dalglish's footballing ability.
Receiving praise from Rooney is like being invited to dinner by Hannibal Lecter, but ahead of Liverpool's crunch match with Man United at Anfield on Saturday, England's most sent-off player enthused:
"I’ve watched lots of (videos) of him. He was a fantastic player and for me he’s probably one of the best players I’ve seen. He could score goals, he could link up play – so for me he was a great player.”
Rooney, who has been booked several times in his career for diving, also believes that Liverpool have signed some good players:
“They’ve made some good signings. Obviously with them not qualifying for the Champions League last season, they will be desperate to get back into that. They’ll be pushing to get into the top four and with the signings they’ve got, they’re capable of doing that".
Despite that, Rooney, who once admitted to deliberately diving in a game, is determined to ensure Man United beat Liverpool on Saturday:
“It’s a big day for United with the rivalry with Liverpool...it’s a massive game. Liverpool is always for me the toughest place to go and win a game. So we’ll have to be aware of them and try and beat them this time.”
He'll be sorely disappointed. The game on Saturday will end with only one result: a Liverpool win.

Wouldn't be a dive in a England shirt.
ReplyDeleteAt least Wayne Rooney has admitted to diving in a game. I can't think of anybody else who has been man enough to admit such a thing. Now Gerrard has never dived for a penalty has he? and Suarez? He would never dive. Perish the thought! Get a grip.....
ReplyDeleteLove the "under tone" humour haha
