HALF TIME: Kuyt misses a penalty. Jack Rodwell sent off (VIDEO)

Despite having a one man advantage as a result of a mind-boggling refereeing decision, Liverpool have been unable to capitalise in the first half against Everton.

Jack Rodwell's sending off was a disgrace, and in my view, the referee should be demoted to the Championship as a result. There's no ambiguity about it: Rodwell *clearly* got the ball. End of story. He barely made contact with Luis Suarez, and the Uruguayan made sure he made the most of it.

I don't take any pleasure in the sending off at all; I'd rather Liverpool beat Everton fairly. The game is basically ruined now.

Other obsevations:

* Too many long-balls. I counted about 20 in the first half alone, and this is taking the midfield completely out of the game.

* Carroll is spending too much time in the 6 yard area defending. We want him in Everton's box, not Liverpool's

* Dirk Kuyt's 100% penalty record has gone after Tim Howard saved his penalty. Poetic justice perhaps for the unfair sending-off?

* At the end of the half, Charlie Adam hit the crossbar with a thundering left-foot drive.

* for the first 35 minutes, Liverpool managed only one attempt on target.

Liverpool have to capitalise on the situation, and so far they haven't.

  1. So is the team doing anything different without Henderson in the side Mali341?

  2. His penalty miss aside Kuyt has been good. It's almost like you want us to lose just so you can be right about Henderson.  I don't think we were as bad as you say Jaimie. Why do you think Dalglish dropped Henderson for this game? What are your thoughts?

  4. I agree that Kuyt has been good.  I think Dalglish dropped henderson purely to take advantage of Kuyt's experience in this fixture, plus his knack of scoring goals against Everton.

It's undoubtedly the right decision IMO.  We need calm heads in games against Everton, and Kuyt is definitely that type of player.  Henderson is too inexperienced, and that has shown in his performances so far.

  5. Why would I want us to lose just because of Henderson being out? My point is that we are 0-0 with Everton being 10 men down. I am sure Henderson will be ripped to pieces if he had to come on and once again be criticised for doing so called nothing. I get it now, just because he is 21 and english he does not deserve to be seen on the pitch and just because he cost 15mil+ he is not good enough?

  6. Jaimie when we get bad decisions against us, everyone says we shouldn't blame the ref and we must just accept it and get on with it. The same should be true when we get good decisions

  7. You are the only one that brings up his age and nationality, players should get in the team (start) based on form and abiltity, not so much potential

  8. We are absolutely toothless! I can only hope Everton score an own goal!

  9. So what seems to suggest that Kuyt will win us the match at the moment?

  10. We are shocking AND still defending deep against 10 men because of saha's pace....ridiculous.

  11. Exactly yahoo, and Henderson will be blamed for doing bugger all if he had to come on now while we are 1 man up?

    ReplyDelete
  12. So who gets blamed for that?

  13. How has Andy Carroll managed to stay on the pitch?  again (and I may have to eat my words) Ridiculous

  14. Tisk tisk, lets hear about all the negative comments about our 35mil striker now.

    You all are clueless.

  15. The more players that prove me wrong the better, but not many slip through the my net.

  16. I guess 35mil was a total waste then?

  17. Criticism should not be dished out too quickly but nor should praise. Later in the seaosn when Jaimie tries to prove how brilliant Henderson has been he will use this game as referance and say that he plaeyd duringa  victory . lol.
Red4life I think its quite clear now that we wont see Gerard Adam Cm partnership too often, i guess I was right and you were wrong

  18. Kuyt was very good today and it will be extremely harsh if he loses his palce to Hendo for next game. Hendo needs time

  19. 7 matches into the season? Arebee, do not count your chickies before they hatch.

Henderson played in our victory against Wolves last weekend so I honestly do not know what your point is when we have beaten a 10 man Everton?

It is a case of the likes of Carroll and Henserson being payed over the odds for. Money on the table, Henderson would have added much mor to this match than what Kuyt did. He is useless down the right. Kuyt did not contribute much to the second half and he missed the penalty which Adam could have buried. Is Carra also going to get stick for doing nothing in this match?

  20. What... a whole career packed snuggly into one goal?  Well done Mr Carroll.  The goal may have covered over many cracks but he won us the game.  My question is will he be more prolific than Heskey, Morientes, Cisse, Kuyt or Baros?  based on what I've seen since January, I don't think he will.  But as it stands this evening I'll raise a glass of milk to Martin Atkinson and Andy Carroll.

  21. Kuyt (striker turned into a defensive RW) has one if two seasons left. Heskey has come and gone. Morientes was a waste of money. Baros did not fit in with Saint benitez. Cisse was played out of position time and time again. Carroll is 22 and if given the ball he will shred you to pieces.

  22. Jaimie, is there a reason why my perfectly good post is not appearing in response to mrburt?

  23. Sorry my bad Jaimie, it is showing now. Must be the browser causing problems.

  24. Kuyt never scored or looked like scoring as a striker until paired with Suarez.  Heskey had a fine second season but was then comfortable being a foil for Owen.  Baros was crap and Cisse scored the most goals he has ever scored in England playing right midfiled under Benitez.  He too was a poor striker.  Morientes' legs went as soon as he touched down in England but his game was no better or worse than Andy Carroll at the moment.  My opinion is Carroll needs to play alongside a big target man man to be effective like he did with Ameobi last season or play in a 4-5-1 where he has two wide men flanking him constantly.  I don't think he'll get that here so it does look ominous.

  25. 1)lfc keep playing flustrating Kick & play style.
2)Too many wasted long passes from LFC defenders & mildfileders matches after matches still no action taken by kenny.
3)LFC defenders & mildfileders need to prioritise short, easy & successful passes rather than opting complicated long passes & only 1% passing completing success rate.
4)Lfc mildfielders play more defensive & being offensive & hence carroll & suarez need to come to centre & even at the back to take the ball & create attack..
    5) Lfc mildfielders & defenders need be agile, aggressive & committed to regain quick ball possesion especially when lfc does not have possession rather than waiting & relax & let opponents creating counter-attack & long-shots & trouble reina.
    6) again again & again carragher need to be on bench only as too many repeated mistakes & the only famous long-passes which 0.999999999% success rate..

  26. Where will you be able to hide when Carroll starts banging in the goals left right and center?

    ReplyDelete
  27. So who should we get to organise our defence then if we had to bench Carra? Do you suggest Skrtel should be given the responsibility?

  28. To me, what has shown from Henderson's performances so far is that he doesn't know how to play as a right winger. He's tried to offer width but doesn't know how to then impact the game in other areas.

Kuyt on the other hand feels free in the knowledge that he can do whatever he wants and drift around the pitch as if he was Zidane, rather than playing any specific role in our attack.

Tbh I still don't see how the team benefits from either...
