Liverpool's defence has been less than airtight recently, and prior to the Everton game, the club had kept only 1 clean sheet in the preceding 11 games. A brilliant defensive display changed that on against Everton, and Kenny Daglish believes that Jamie Carragher deserves a lot of credit for that.
Dalglish was happy not to concede:
"I thought all the lads at the back dealt with everything. Carra was superb again.
"It was good to keep a clean sheet. We haven't had one for a few weeks. We've been unlucky not to get more because some of the goals we've conceded have been right at the end of games.
Kenny then provided some compelling, unique insights into the benefits of keeping a clean sheet:
"Whenever you do keep a clean sheet it obviously gives you a great chance of getting something. If you do stop the other team scoring it's good for everybody, the defenders in particular".
Carra has come in for a lot of stick this season, with some fans arguing that it's time for him to spend more time on the bench. Indeed, the majority of fans who took part in a survey on this site a few weeks ago actually voted for him to steps aside.
However, if Carra can keep up the form he showed against Everton then perhaps there's no need to worry. The Man United game will be another tough defensive test, and hopefully one that will be passed with flying colours.
