HALF TIME: Adam and Suarez put Liverpool 2-0 up against Wolves

Charlie Adam returned from suspension to fire Liverpool into the lead during the first half against Wolves at Anfield, and then Luis Suarez scored a stunning second to cap a fairly dominant first half for Liverpool.

After about 14 minutes, Adam picked up the ball about 25 yards out and then smashed a deflected shot into the net. That's his second goal this season, and with his assists on top, that makes 4 goals/assists in 7 games (6 if you don't include his cameo appearance against Spurs).

Luis Suarez has looked lively again, and wowed the crowd with a superb piece of skill after 20 minutes, back-heeling his way past a Wolves defender and into the 6 yard box.

Then, after 38 minutes, the Uruguayan scored a brilliant individual goal, controlling the a superb pass from Jose Enrique and then firing into the net.

Henderson and Carroll have been quiet, and I still don't think they should've started ahead of Dirk Kuyt and Craig Bellamy.

There are more goals in this game, and if Liverpool continue in this vein, we could end up with 4 or 5, which would be great for goal difference and confidence.

  1. We seem to be struggling in the 2nd half of games recently, not putting teams away. I thought Carroll was much better today, got stuck in and involved. Enrique was excellent again and looks almost as good a buy as suarez

  2. A win is a win I guess.

I am worried though.  Andy Carroll has a look of Morientes about him at the moment.  I just can't see where or how the lad is going to score a goal.  Its not to say he is a bad player because neither was Morientes but like Morientes he is weak in possession, loses a large percentage of headers (which is unforgivable really) and runs at the pace of an Olympic underwater sprinter. Carroll's chance at the end where he chose to make the the sum 1+1 a Masters level algebraic equation was baffling but sums up his confidence at the moment.

This is the 1st blip of young Andys career so no one knows exactly how he responds to footballing adversity.  Everyone keeps saying he'll pull through but Carroll is yet to experience a second season in the premiership which as we all know is the most difficult for any new striker to the premiership. Even the great Steven Gerrard faltered as a striker in his second season after opposition teams discovered that by man marking him they will neutralize his threat.

Kenny will have to alter his tactics drastically to get the best out of Carroll.  Carroll doesn't have the ability to create chances for himself like Adebayor, Drogba, Torres or even Crouch and relies purely on service.  Carroll possibly needs to be played in a 4-3-3 formation like he did for England when he had Young and Downing flanking him.  If however we choose to play Carroll in a 4-4-2 we should examine who his main strike partner was at Newcastle.  Big Shola Ameobi.  It may sound strange but to play in a 4-4-2 maybe Andy Carroll needs to play with a target man the same way Shearer played with Mike Newell and Chris Sutton.  Shearers game suffered when he was the main target man playing with a smaller striker and his goals decreased significantly. If this is the case we have a slightly bigger problem on our hands than originally thought.

  3. Yeah your right Enrique and Suarez were different class today along with Lucas who it seems Carries Adam through every second half of matches.  I had no idea Adams fitness was so bad.

  4. "along with Lucas who it seems Carries Adam through every second half of matches"mrburt, you make me laugh. How did you come to that analogy? I have watched this match twice and if it was not for Adam in midfield we would either have lost or drawn this match. BTW, Lucas did not do much in this match and I am challenging you to prove me wrong.

  5. I also left out the part where Lucas was ball watching when Fletcher scored his goal. I guess you are going to blame Gerrard for that goal too LOL?

  6. Your logic is terrible. You do not know how we would have performed without Adam. Adam not being there does not mean we will paly with 10 men, (besides the times he gets sent off) there will obviously be someone int he side to replace him, possible doing a better job

  7. Who is going to do a better job than Adam at the moment?

Please provide a proper analysis arebee instead of just replying to my post just for the sake of replying.

  8. Adam is one of my favored players in the premiership but in the second half of matches he fades badly.  You can visibly see him huffing and puffing.  A goal doesn't mean you have performed it means you have scored.

  9. NOWHERE DID LUCAS CARRY ADAM...

I am still waiting for you to prove me wrong...

  10. Red4life yeah he ball watched. I dont defend players for the sake of it or out of favoritism. Which reminds me care to mention any of Jamie Carraghers recent mistakes? or is passing judgement only applicable to Rafa signings?

    I'll check back later...much later......

  11. I don't have to provide examples, you said we would have lost or drawn without Adam in the side, where is your proper analysis? I'm simply saying you cant say for sure we would have lost if not for Adam. Aside from his goal which wasn't actually his and wont be credited to him he did not have a great game. Gerrard for sure will do a better job

  12. WHO IS GOING TO DO A BETTER JOB THAN ADAM AT THE MOMENT?

Do you not realise that Gerrrad will n eed time to get back to full fitness and i can guarentee that Adam would be the better partner for our captian.

Let me not waste time comparing Lucas to Adam, it will be a pointless exercise.

  13. Yes I agree it would be. They are completely different players. One is defense minded the other not. That is exactly why Lucas and Gerrard or Lucas and Adam are both better combinations than Gerrard and Adam. I would rather play Spearing Gerrard than Adam Gerrard any day.

  14. And that is your opinion arebee, I would rather play Adam/Gerrrad. That is the way I like it.
