LFC's season is in the gutter...and GLEN JOHNSON is living it up in a London nightclub at 4am

Glen Johnson has made many costly defensive mistakes since he arrived at Liverpool, the most recent of which led directly to Liverpool losing against Arsenal and Portsmouth. With this in mind, how is swanning around a London nightclub in the early hours of Sunday morning a professional way to prepare for the next game?

Defeat against Portsmouth obviously didn't affect Johnson in the slightest, as it seems after the game he headed to London for a night out on the town. If this is how he prepares for games then no wonder his defensive performances have been severely lacking.

I sincerely doubt that he had permission from Rafa Benitez for his nightclub excursion, which, incidentally, has led to a situation where he is wanted for questioning by the Police over an alleged assault.

Johnson has the right to do whatever he wants, but as a Liverpool player, he is paid obscene amounts of money to be professional and prepare himself properly for games, especially right now, when the club needs every fit player to be at their best.

Is going clubbing in London until 4am during Liverpool's worst run in 50 years the best way for Johnson - or any Liverpool player - to spend his/their time?

Hopefully the alleged incident will blow over, but after the Steven Gerrard assault saga, the last thing the club needs is another court case.

  2. He can go out if he wants. However, the assault sounds more sinister. Have to wait and see about that...

  3. How dare he go out on the town.

Footballers should only be allowed out of the house to train and play matches - that is what they are paid for.

Bad day at work? Just stay at home have a cup of tea and get on with it.

We need to bring back capital punishment to keep these mercenaries in line.

  4. These guys are on 100k plus per week, and they obviously couldn't care less

If it was Bellamy he'd be gone but Glen knows Rafa can do nothing to him

Makes me sick to think that we actually worry about results and spend our time and energy discussing it, I guess it's just a job to our players

  5. Yes how dare a 20 something go and chill out with his friends a full 6 days before the next game. Totally shocking behaviour!! He should find another way to unwind and relax and take some of the pressure off himself.

  6. Yes how dare a 20 something go out with his friends after a tough game to just chill out and relax. Not as if it's something none of us have ever done. We've never been under stress for one reason or another and our friends have suggested we come out, relax, take our mind of things.

He doesn't have a game for the next 6 days, so why isn't he entitled to relax for one night and take some of the heat off himself??

  7. The manager has no authority and half of the players just dont blinkin' well care. Am just hoping Santa can bring us a saviour. Instead of socks and an Old Spice gift set....

  8. As I keep saying, we are all frustrated and angry with liverpool season and looking for someone to point a finger at.
The incident with Johnson at this stage, is only paper evidence. we dont know anything about how it happaned , why and if he was permitted to be there. I bleieve innocent till proved guilty as well.
As one of replies say, we cannot  expect players to stay at home and drink tea all the time. and sometimes if you had a stressful day, going out and have few drink is not a bad idea, more so if your next game is not till the following week. I am more worried if the attacking was true but as i said innocent till proven guilty.
I hope this will news will make him more determine to play better for us in next games.

  9. my god, these rants are increidibly tedious.  It seems that wannabe rent-a-quote hacks see bashing Liverpool and all connected with the club as the best way to getting noticed.

  10. Has Johnson made many costly mistakes, which led to goals? That sickens me, it really does. It's an absolute myth, that he doesn't defend well, he's been better then Insua, Carragher and Skrtel. I bet this site was created by a Manc.

  11. he made to mistakes agaisnt Arsenal to cost us two goals.  so I disagree with you there.
in last few games he has not been as efective going forward, I really think it would be better if he played in Midfield on the right with someonel ike Kelly or Carragher behind him

  12. He also heading the ball to a Portsmough player in the last game, who then hammerd home the goal.

  13. Not often I agree with Jamie, but you're right on this one. People who talk about being a "20 something year old"  who should be allowed out etc is nonsense given the state of our season. Johson & the rest of the squad should be hurting after a defeat & then preparing as best as he can for our next game to try & put things right - which is what he is paid to do. If we were top of the league then maybe you could argue otherwise, but if you're not doing the business on the pitch it only compounds concerns that the players aren't doing their bit (regardless of whether the manager is or not). Don't read about Giggs being out 'til 4am!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Well giggs would need his walker which would make it tough on a nite out. lol

    ReplyDelete
  15. for one giggs is 36 - like someone said they havn't got a game for 6 days - what do you expect him to do go home and sit in a dark room untill the next game? if i was a liverpool player after pompy, i'd be looking to take my mind off it as well, as i'm sure the rest of you would!

I saw Pepe Reina in the airport on my way to berlin yesterday - who the fuck gave him his passport???  these footballers!!!!

    get a grip everyone

  16. Disgusting, and I'm feeling really embittered..
I can't suggest to any player the way of life, but in my point of view, when Liverpool suffer a terrible defeat with the bottom team of the league, and You are a liverpool's senior player Who wears the badge of mighty reds, You should be stay at home, with our confidence low.
    Unthinkable.
Yes, this is an opinion, a personal point of view, but maybe the good old Shank whould share this kind of opinions.
I want only commitment & motivated players for Liverpool Fc.

  17. Sums up the current squad, Gerrard, Torres, Carra all stayed at home when the Liverpool Style Awards were on, even though they were invited and nominated for awards they all had the same opinion of "not being seen out on the town enjoying themselves whilst the team are playing shite!!!"

Johnson is a good player and we all need a blowout but maybe one a little more discreet would have served him better, I am not about to lay into him maybe Masch should have thought of that before booking his xmas break home early by trying to snap another player

  18. Oh for goodness sakes!

Why dont you write an article on what is acceptable behaviour too, mary [whitehouse]?

  19. I actually agree with Jamie this time, the money i waste going to see matches each week travelling to Portsmouth to watch that lackluster shit on Saturday have paid for GJ drinks that led him to assult (allegedly) someone. I'd love to have the money for a night out in London but cant afford it because i waste it watching LFC at the moment!

  20. I really am against treating adults like children. There is absolutely nothing wrong in this world with going out. It doesn't mean he's Pete Doherty. Stay out of trouble sure, but to say that having seven pints (or whatever) is going to affect a prime athlete, especially a week before a game is nonsense. I'm not saying it will have a positive effect, but it's completely harmless and helps to make someone feel like they are living. If I had to stay in because my boss told me, I'd quit. Players are not property, they're free-men. Jamie, I'm surprised at you.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I doubt you'd quit if you were getting paid £40 per week. to not go out abnd get pissed. we pay these wages! they only have to do it for a small part of their life and will live of the wages for ever! i dont think its too much to ask to get player to not drink until their football career has finished. As benitez once said, stay ouy out of the bars and when your career has finished you'll be able to buy that bar!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I doubt you'd quit if you were getting paid £40k per week! They are only proffessional footballers for a short period of their lives and will live off their wages for ever. I dont think its too much to ask to have them stay at home and not go out drinking during that time!

  23. 2 right i play semi pro and there is no better way ov leettin steam off after a bad win by avin a nite out

  24. The police questioning is a concern but until it's proven then it means nothing to me - seems the majority of these incidents that are reported amount to nothing more than a gobsh1te making a complaint against someone because they're famous and might get in the papers.

The idea that footballers should be tee-total monks isn't something I sign-up to though. Totally agree with those suggesting that letting off some steam by going out is one of the best ways of getting over a shocking result, which will have hurt Johnson more than most being as it was his old club and team mates who we'd just lost to. Do you not think he'd have been subjected to a lot of banter from the Pompy boys and was in need of letting his cornrows down?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Was he drunk or drinking obscene amounts? Don't see any evidence that he was - therefore there are no problems with me!

He has a week until the next game.....get a grip, footballers are humans not machines. He has the right to blow-off a little steam...who cares whether that is in a night-club or at home playing his X-Box till 4am (6-days before a game)!

Only when his personal life has an impact on his training or match-day performance should action (by the Club) be taken. I would imagine Liverpool had Sunday off to 'recover' anyway!!

The alleged assault is, of course, concerning, however lets wait for the police investigation before screaming from the roof-tops!

  26. At the end of the day, it is only a game! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  27. He also scored some important goals at the start of the season. Go and write about something that has some relevance to what the problems are at liverpool fc instead of some gutter sun like articles.

    ReplyDelete
  28. it says " Al Muhtadi told (((((((The Sun))))))))): "was left with significant injuries" and made an official

arent we a bit old to believe what this one says ?

  29. Fair play to johnson, some blokes need a smack in the mouth :-D

    ReplyDelete
  30. On the one hand I agree, players are entitled to go out and enjoy an evening out. However, a part of me feels that incidents such as this, if true, smacks of pure arrogance and contempt that modern athletes have. For heaven's sake, GJ was directly responsilbe for the first goal. Perhaps I am projecting my values into this situation, but if it was me in GJ's situation. I wouldn't have gone out partying as if nothing was wrong, as if I am not part of the worst run in my club's glourious history, but went home to stew over the situation and make good on the practice and the next game. Like I said before, I don't have a problem with players going out on the town, but after our defeat to Portsmouth? I think there is a time and place for these types of evening and this is not one.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Again, Johnson letting his attacking instincts get the better of him ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. If he'd stayed at home and got plastered till 4 am with strippers and whores would we be bothered? That's what a lot of players do...
I think he's a crap defender but if he wasn't we wouldn't be as bothered about his social life as we are now.

    ReplyDelete
  33. But you get the point? What would you tell your boss if he told you that you couldn't go out in the prime of your life, knowing that there are plenty of jobs that pay the same? I know it's not a like-for-like comparison, but he's not in prison.

The only reason that players are warned about going out is because of press reaction, and unfounded public perceptions of what alcohol does to an athlete.

  37. Yeh but what the hell is there to celebrate, why the hell do you wanna drink, forget drowning your sorrows, your the part of the reason why we lost, take the responsibility!! You should be bloody practising with all the team to make sure it doesnt happen again!! Liverpool are turning into a a mid-table team.. Rafa is just lacking common sense and any sort of football knowledge, the players arent up for the fight, no spirit, they dont give a crap about how bad we're doing, terrible players being bought and kept in the team! Gerrard should never play up-front either!! Team against Wolves :
    Reina
    Johnson Carragher Agger Aurelio
Lucas/Aquilani(if fit for once - in benitez' eyes)
    Babel             Benayoun      Gerrard
                   Torres       Kuyt/N'gog

  40. maybe to you, but no to me lfc is much more bigger than that, lfc is a way of life.

couldnt care less about how he spends his time, but would've loved to see him show some respect to the fans after he had cost them the match and at least go the the club 2 or 3 days later .. don'nt think its much to ask tbh

    ReplyDelete
  41. i really don't get it, totenham players getting fined 20k pounds each and thier captin is on the list to be sold, cuz they cost spurs a game in the leage.

isn't this the same situation here , but just the otherway around ?
i know the concept of supporting our players, but supporting this kind of attitude ?

    ReplyDelete
  42. and a mistake against pompey which gave them the lead and sucked every ounce of whatever left of our players confidince...

    ReplyDelete
  43. I completely disagree with the sentiment and context of this article. I can personally attest to enjoying nothing better after a crap week at work than going out and getting plastered on a Friday night with my mates. Let your hair down, take your mind off things and then come back on Monday feeling a lot more relaxed and ready for another hard week.

OR you could sit at home and wallow in your own sorrow and self-pity, spin things round in your head for an evening and never actually detach yourself from your problems so that you can revisit them in a new light.

He's a 24 year old living in England for goodness sake. I'd send them all out to get hammered and let their hair down if I was Rafa (six days before a game is more than enough recovery time). Anyone who can appreciate any iota of what it is to be human and cope with adversity should be able to appreciate that taking your mind off things is the best thing to do.

And until ANYTHING gets proven about any sort of fight or to-do, I'm going to assume that the British media is doing its usual sh*t-stirring, any Liverpool should adopt 'innocent until proven guilty' in this situation.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Practice at night? You can have a life a pro-footballer. I dont' know about you, but when I go out, it's never to 'celebrate' anything, it's just to socialise and enjoy company. What evidence is there to say GJ was "celebrating".

Let's not be mean-spirited. He fucked up in a game of sport, not a corporate meeting, so let's not hang, draw and quarter him.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Johnson responsible for two goals against Arsenal! There was nothing he could have done about the own goal - the ball took two deflections on its way to him.

The second goal he was one on one with Arshavin and I think the Arsenal player has to get some credit for the instant control and unstoppable finish.

Do we blame the defenders when Torres skins the best defenders in the land? No, we applaud his ability.

    ReplyDelete
  46. not comparable - spurs players went out midweek, and then lost on the saturday.

do you think he's the only (LFC) player to go out last saturday when there's no game for 6-7 days? grow up.

getting in a dust up is a different matter though

    ReplyDelete
  47. FACT - Johnson is a right-wing back. Like Phillip Lahm, Riise,Alves and Sergio Ramos. But he is a SHIT defender. He is strong and fast, but seems clueless and lacks the anticipation a defender needs. He must be alert, be able to read plays, keep on his marker and dominate his zone. Personally I think Arbeloa was developing well - he made mistakes, but overall he was more consistent, reliable and had a developing attacking flair (which I guess no one recognised, not even opposing teams, which made it more lethal - e.g. his assists and goals down the right hand side)

Personally, I would just hurry up and seal Rodriguez, and use Darby fulltime (look what happened to Insua people). You look at Arsenal, Manure and Barca and they use their young blood early so they learn from their mistakes and use their skill, gain knowledge and valuable experience against tough opposition.

Furthermor, I think Benitez' stubborn tactics with zonal marking on set-pieces is terrible and our passing must improve. Hence we need a playmaker.
This is where Aquilani comes in - he is our new playmaker. But he needs time. Secondly our wings (both mid and def) are poor. Riera and Maxi Rodriguez is a good combo, with Kuyt and Babel competing. Gerrard should sit just behind Torres, with Masch/Lucas in the centre, with Aquilani OR if against weaker opposition at home - Bennayoun behind Torres, and Gerrard with Aquilani.
