Klopp Confirms: 'Brilliant' £100k-a-week Liverpool star will miss Swansea games; admits it's 'difficult' to accept

Is 'brilliant' Reds defender Joel Matip available for tomorrow's Premier League clash with Swansea City?

Matip is currently in limbo as a result of confusion over his eligibility to play during the AFCON, and when asked today about the situation, Klopp basically confirmed that Matip will miss tomorrow's game. He explained:

“No, I don’t have an update. It’s Friday, [which is] a kind of D-Day for whether or not [Matip can play]. It is now one o’clock here, which means in Switzerland it is two o’clock".

Klopp further added:

“It’s difficult as there is not a lot of training time, so you try to work with the team that could start the next game. Joel...is not that often involved in these things...and that is of course not good".

Based on training footage posted on the club's official website today, Matip is not part of Klopp's first-team plans for tomorrow. Matip trained with the likes of Wilson, Randall, and Ojo - none of whom are likely to start tomorrow - whilst a separate part of the video shows first-teamers like Can, Firmino, and Milner training together.

In any event, Matip's absence should not be a major issue. With the greatest respect, Swansea are bottom of the league, with the worst defensive record in the Prem, and if Liverpool can't beat relegation fodder like this at *home* without Matip, then there's a serious problem somewhere.
