Next Zidane? Liverpool keen to sign £30m 'phenomenon' who broke Champions League record

Liverpool are reportedly tracking one of Belgium's brightest attacking talents.

According to Star Sport this week:

"Man Utd’s scouts will check on Youri Tielemans, with Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and Bayern Munich also interested".

Liverpool were first linked with Tielemans back in 2014, when The Mirror claimed:

"Liverpool are watching Tielemans [and] in midweek, Reds [Scouts] ran the rule over the teenager".

When asked recently about Tielemans' future, his agent told reporters:

"He [Tielemans] is a fantastic player and is not struggling with the speculation. We'll think about it at the end of the season".

Some info about £30m-rated Tielemans:

* 19-year old holding midfielder, who can also play more attack-minded midfield roles. Contract expires: 2020

* Anderlecht: 45 goals/assists in 154 apps (One every 256 mins).

* Oct 2013: Broke a long-standing record to become the youngest Belgian to appear in the Champions League.

* May 2015: On his favoured role: “I see myself somewhere between the No.6 and No.10 positions”.

* Jun 2015: Anderlecht legend Par Zatterburg's assessment: "He [Tielemans] is a phenomenon. There are not many players better than him."

* Jan 2016: On his role models: "I like the ball and I like to create – I modelled my play on Zinedine Zidane.”

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "His biggest assets are technique, speed, and ability to pick out a killer pass. Shooting technique is impressive. Versatility is also one of the reasons he is highly sought after".

* Scouting Report (Weaknesses): "Known to shirk a challenge. Needs to improve defensive workrate; tends to stand around when the team is on the back foot. Strength and stamina are also not his strongest points".

Shirking challenges and poor 'defensive workrate' isn't going to cut it under Jurgen Klopp, and Tielemans will struggle to impose himself in a pressing team if his 'strength and stamina' are suspect.
