Anfield Update: 'Superstar' £43m attacker confirms he met with 'Klopp' to discuss a transfer to Dortmund

Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has confirmed once again that Jurgen Klopp tried to sign him during his time at Red Bull Salzburg.

In a new interview this week, Mane admitted:

"I was so excited...that Klopp wanted to meet. I used to watch Dortmund all the time, but things didn’t work out. It was frustrating".

This follows Mane's comments last month, when he told the BBC:

"I [met] Klopp when he was at Dortmund. He tried to sign me, but it didn't happen".

Mane is a great signing so far, but the acid test will come in the second half of the season:

* Last year, Mane also started well, and grabbed 9 goals/assists in his first 11 games.

* Mane's form then tailed off badly, and from December 5th and April 9th (4 months) he contributed just 2 goals and 1 assist in 20 games. Additionally, during that period he went 17 games without a goal.

Mane suffered similar inconsistency in his first year at Southampton, and at Salzburg, so you'll forgive me if I refrain from jumping on the 'Mane is the messiah' bandwagon. When he proves his consistency over a season, then I'll get excited, and the same applies to Liverpool's form overall.

That said, Mane looks supremely comfortable in Klopp's side, and given the increased quality of players alongside him, it seems unlikely that he'll suffer another massive loss of form.
