'We Talked': Jurgen Klopp confirms he held transfer meeting with 'superstar' £43m attacker during his time at BVB

Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he still regrets one specific transfer 'mistake' he made during his time Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo this week, Klopp admitted that he rejected the chance to sign Sadio Mane for BVB, a decision he insists made him want to 'punch' himself. He explained:

“I made the mistake at Dortmund where I didn’t take him [Mane]. Everyone knows we met. We talked...and I liked the player, but it needed to be the right, exact fit in that moment".

Mane has also confirmed his flirtation with Dortmund on two occasions this season. In October, he told the BBC:

"I [met] Klopp when he was at Dortmund. He tried to sign me, but it didn't happen".

Then, last week, Mane reiterated:

"I was so excited...that Klopp wanted to meet. I used to watch Dortmund all the time, but things didn’t work out. It was frustrating".

Well, Klopp finally got his man, and so far the transfer is a resounding success for Liverpool. Klopp also imparted the following tidbit of information:

"He [Mane] was one of the four or five Premier League players last year who I had personally met before".

Perhaps those players (whoever they may be) are still on Klopp's radar as possible future transfers?
