Anfield Update: Klopp confirms he's close to making 'final decision' on €64m midfield duo

Liverpool are currently hamstrung by a number of injuries to important players, and with Manchester United coming to town on Monday, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has provided a moderately encouraging injury update.

In his pre-Man United press conference today, Klopp told reporters:

"In this moment, we don’t know exactly who is available. Gini and Adam are both not ruled out for Monday. I can wait until I make my final decision".

Initial injury reports claimed that Wijnaldum (Sorry, I refuse to call him 'Gini' - ugh) had suffered a hamstring issue, but according to the Liverpool Echo:

"Having undergone tests on his return to Melwood, it has emerged the Wijnaldum has a hip complaint. No timescale has been set on a possible comeback for Wijnaldum, who is undergoing intensive treatment".

Depending on the severity of the 'complaint', I wouldn't expect to see Wijnaldum starting against Man Utd. Daniel Sturridge has been plagued by hip issues during his time at Anfield, and to date, he's spent close to 200 days on the sidelines recovering from hip problems.

In any event, there's absolutely no need to rush Wijnaldum back into action. Liverpool have Can, Grujic, Stewart, Henderson, Lucas, Brannagan, and Ejaria as options in central midfield, and that's more than enough to cover an attacking midfielder who's playing out of position (!)

Wijnaldum: Cost €36m-rated. Lallana: €28m-rated (CIES Football Observatory)
