'Iceman' to Anfield? Liverpool Reps fly out to watch 'fantastic' powerhouse with 'world-class' potential

Despite the arrivals of Joel Matip and Ragnar Klavan, Jurgen Klopp still doesn't appear to be satisfied with his central defensive options, and new reports this week suggest that Reds are tracking 'fantastic' Benfica defender Victor Lindelof.

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool sent sent scouts to watch Tuesday's Champions League clash between Benfica and Besiktas, and Lindelof is one of four Benfica players assessed by the Reds.

Some info about Lindelof, nicknamed 'The Iceman' at Benfica:

* 22-year old central defender, who can also play right back, or defensive midfield. Current contract expires in 2020, and contains a £25m release clause.

* 31 appearances for Benfica. 7 apps for the Sweden national team. Never suffered an injury.

* May 2016: Benfica reportedly rejected a £20m offer from Manchester United.

* Jul 2014: When asked about his career aspirations, Lindelof told reporters: "I want to be one of the best players in the world and play at the highest level".

* Scouting Report (Strengths): "Dominant in the air. Uses his strength well to make crunching tackles, almost always well-timed. Good speed for a player with such a big frame".

* Scouting Report (Weaknesses): "Although comfortable in possession, Lindelof is usually pleased to get rid of the ball quickly, either into the stands or by playing a simple pass to his nearest team-mate".

* Feb 2016: Ex-Sweden boss Lars Lagerback raved: "Lindelof can become a world-class player. I like his attitude, he is fast and effective player with good understanding of the game".

Do you hear that loud clanging noise in the distance? That's the death knell sounding for Mamadou Sakho's Liverpool career...
