Transfer Agreed: Liverpool very close to signing 'fantastic' £25m attacker. Medical today. Done deal this week?

The current transfer window is proving yet again that Liverpool have learned *nothing* from the overspending during Brendan Rodgers' reign, and with Sadio Mane already signed for a grossly inflated price, it looks like Liverpool are hellbent on paying an extortionate fee for allegedly 'fantastic' Newcastle midfielder Giorgino Wijnaldum.

On Wednesday, The Telegraph reported.

"Liverpool and Newcastle have reached an agreement regarding the fee for Georginio Wijnaldum".

De Telegraaf further claimed:

"His [Wijnaldum's] heart is set on a move to Liverpool, where coach Jürgen Klopp has admired him for a long time".

According to Sky Sports 'sources' today:

"Liverpool have agreed a £25m for Georginio Wijnaldum. LFC have offered Wijnaldum a five-year deal [and he] will travel to Anfield on Thursday for a medical".

Given his poor primary stats (Outside the Prem's top 30 for assists and chance-creation last season; Goal every 304 mins. Assist every 669 mins), it's arguably negligence (again) to pay through the nose, especially since the reds have major leverage:

* Newcastle are a RELEGATED TEAM, so they'll have a massive Premier League wage bill to prune.

* Wijnaldum is a full international, and will not want to stay in the Championship. He wants out, and when a player wants to leave, it gives buying clubs a tactical advantage.

£59m combined for Mane and Wijnaldum? In terms of risk/potential to improve LFC, this is no different to £55m for Carroll and Downing, or £66m on Markovic, Lallana, and Lovren (five players who've done nothing to help the club achieve consistent progress in the league).
