Liverpool XI vs. Augsburg: £32m attacker snubbed? Surprise upfront? Klopp confirms injuries to Stewart and Lallana

After Saturday's impressive 6-0 annihilation of Aston Villa, Liverpool face Augsburg on Thursday in the Europa League, and after failing to build any kind of positive momentum over the last few months, can Villa result serve as a catalyst for the rest of the season?

Jurgen Klopp's pre-match updates:

* On Stewart: "We lost Kevin Stewart in training. We have sent him for a scan. We think it’s the ligament. It's not too good".

* On other injuries: "Lucas [Leiva] is back fit but not Adam [Lallana]. He has no chance for Thursday's game".

* On Augsburg: "A really good German team, compact, very physical".

The Europa League is Liverpool's only real chance of qualifying for the Champions League, and with an entire week off after the game, it seems likely that Klopp will go with his strongest available team.

The question is, should that team contain Daniel Sturridge?

In my view, whatever Sturridge's state of fitness, Klopp rest him for game, For once, Liverpool have enough attacking players available to cover Sturridge's absence, and there's no sense in risking him any more than is necessary.

If Sturridge sits out Augsburg, that gives him eleven days of potential recovery time before the second leg, and given his injury history, that's arguably the most sensible approach to take.

Probable lineup:

----------------- Mignolet
Clyne ----- Sakho ----- Toure ----- Moreno
--------- Hendo -- Can --- Milner
--------- Coutinho --- Firmino
----------------- Origi
