Confirmed Liverpool Team: Klopp snubs 'magnificent' star; Surprise on the bench; Heartbreak for LFC's academy players

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has named an unchanged team for today's League Cup final with Man City, which means it's bad news for Kolo Toure, who is dumped on the bench for the second game in a row.

FULL TEAM: Mignolet, Clyne, Lucas, Sakho, Moreno, Can, Henderson, Milner, Firmino, Coutinho, Sturridge

SUBS: Bogdan, Toure, Benteke, Lallana, Allen, Origi, Flanagan

MAN CITY: Caballero, Sagna, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Clichy, Fernando, Fernandinho, Toure, Silva, Sterling, Aguero

SUBS: Hart, Kolarov, Zabaleta, Demichelis, Navas, Iheanacho, Bony

* Klopp is making a huge gamble with Lucas at centre-back. Yes, the Brazilian has done well in that role this season, but Man City is a different proposition, and I fear that he may come unstuck today.

* What a massive snub for Toure. On Thursday, some fans tried to argue that Klopp was simply resting him for today's game, but as I argued in the pre-Augsburg article. that was clearly nonsense.

* It just goes to show that the merit system means absolutely nothing under Klopp; Toure - recently hailed by Jamie Carragher for his 'magnificent performances' - helped the club keep two clean sheets in a row, and then got scrapped. Nice reward system.

* The rest of the team is just as expected. Bogdan's inclusion will probably be a minor surprise for many, but given his heroics in earlier rounds, he deserves to be in the squad.

* Disappointing to see that Klopp has dumped all the academy players for this game, and chosen to rush Lallana and Allen back into the squad, both of whom are not match-fit.

* This is (IMO) a massive slap in the face for the likes of Smith, and Teixeira, who arguably deserved a small reward for their progress this season. In my view, at least one youngster should be representing the Academy today.
