'Really Good': Klopp hails 'astonishing' £30m goal-machine wanted by Liverpool and claims he's 'Player of the Year'

'Astonishing' Leicester City star Jamie Vardy is reportedly on Liverpool's transfer wish-list, and whether that's actually true or not, it's clear that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the prolific Premier League striker.

In October, ESPN claimed:

"Liverpool and Tottenham are keeping a close eye on Leicester City's in-form striker Jamie Vardy, sources have told ESPN FC".

In his pre-West Ham press conference today, Klopp was asked the following question:

"Who is the Premier League 'Player of the Season' so far?"

Klopp's response:

"Jamie Vardy of course. He's been really good season, along with his team-mate, [Riyadh] Mahrez".

Despite his prodigious goal record this season, Liverpool fans don't seem that enamoured by Vardy, who, according to Arsene Wenger, is worth '£30m'.

Earlier this month, I conducted a poll asking whether the Reds should sign Vardy. The results:

Vardy is the Premier League's top goalscorer, so it's a rather surprising result, though it remains to be see if Vardy can maintain his form across a whole season, or consistently over 2-3 seasons.

Vardy is (rightly) getting all the plaudits this season, but Watford striker Odion Ighalo is also worthy of recognition, and when it comes to minutes per goal/assist, he is close to matching Vardy:

* Ighalo: 14 goals/3 assists in 19 games (one every 93 mins)

* Vardy: 15 goals/5 assists in 20 games (One every 86 mins)

Both strikers are making an absolute mockery of Liverpool's attacking players.

For example, Vardy has the same number of league goals this season (15) as Benteke, Lallana, Coutinho, Milner, Henderson, Ibe and Firmino *combined*.

Utterly indefensible.
