Roberto Martinez to Liverpool? Reds fans give their emphatic verdict...

Earlier this week, Wigan Chairman Dave Whelan made it clear that he would not stop Roberto Martinez moving on to a a 'top European club' in the near future, and with Liverpool possibly in the market for a new manager, Martinez is currently odds-on favourite to replace Kenny Dalglish. What do Reds fans think about the possibility of Martinez taking over?

When askedabout the speculation linking with him with the Liverpool job, Martinez - the Premier League's youngest manager - seemed to emphatically dismiss the possibility:

"There hasn’t been an official approach...and talk of other clubs – especially when there is nothing on the table – is extremely disrespectful. If one day that’s a decision that needs to be made, then I would look at it, but it’s not the case at the moment".

I conducted a survey two days ago asking if LFC fans would like to see Martinez as Liverpool manager, and the results were pretty predictable:

* Over 5600 people voted.
* 63% of participants voted NO to Martinez taking over.

In recent surveys on this site, fans voted NO to Laurent Blanc, but YES to Jose Mourinho, Rafa Benitez and Pep Guardiola, with the outgoing Barca boss beating perennial fan favourite Benitez in a head-to-head poll.

Dalglish's future is still unclear at this stage, but whatever happens over the next few days, we're definitely in for an interesting summer.

Coming soon to a cinema near you...

Come on, it's just lighthearted banter :-)

  1. Good times ahead. I'd rather have BENITEZ. The best mngr we had in the last 20 years.

  2. Dirk Kuyt has given direct interviews to Paul Smith (The Sun), that is a disgrace. Paul Smith has just slaughtered KK on Talksport off the back of Kuyt's interview, i want Kuyt binned. WTF are FSG doing saying nothing while KK and Liverpool get slaughtered..................so much for the great new owners???

  3. I've felt since the Carling Cup final that we would stand a chance of luring Pep, maybe not this summer, but one day. It would give him a chance to build something rather than taking over an existing CL team. "Challenge" springs to mind.
I don't think Martinez (as good as he is) is anywhere near ready to step up to the standards required at Liverpool. Managers and Players have proven time and again its a huge leap from fairly good to excellent.

  4. Guardiola? Doesn't anybody see why he left? Just another Rejkard!! I see a lot of similarities between his era with Barca and kenny's first spell with Liverpool, they both left suddenly. I might be wrong but Guardiola had a ready team and needs to prove himself elsewhere, but for Liverpool it would be a crazy risk.

  6. That you are all having this discussion is beyond my comprehension. When did the Cup competitions become irrelevent? Why even bother entering nowadays? I appreciate we are well off in the league, but there were flashes of what is to come on many occasions and we have made that sort of gap up in a year before. BIG BIG mistake if they get rid of Kenny.

  8. Martinez is not high profile enough to take the club forward. Only someone with the reputation of a genuine WORLD CLASS manager  would be able to entice top talent to LFC without the lure of Champions League football next season. However, if Martinez DID sign for us, had a small budget for new players and took us back into Europe's top table, THEN he could claim to be cut from the same cloth as the top names in world football.
Personally, I'd rather we kept Kenny. I'm hoping that, if he stays, he gets ruthless with the players after a poor performance. I'd like the owners to attend a meeting and let the players know that Kenny is the boss and anyone trying to undermine him will be stuck in the reserves then shipped out.
Irrespective of us not winning the league for 20 years, there's only been FIVE other teams to achieve that feat and 2 of them have only one it once. It took Man City £900m+ to break the Man Utd - Chelsea dominance of the last few years and the other single EPL winners have just been relegated. Never mind that though, Liverpool Football Club is still MASSIVE on a the global stage. We're the 4th biggest replica shirt seller on the planet. 4th biggest! Out of the many thousands of professional football clubs worldwide, only 3 sell more shirts than us. 3. That's less than the fingers on your hand. Even the Old Firm don't sell as many and they have supporters clubs in almost every country.
So, who still thinks we're turning into a small club now?

  9. Martinez is not the odds on favourite,iv just checked and out of the 6 bookies offering odds on the next LFC manager market 5 have Rafa as favourite. After Rafa its Martinez close behind then its 10/1 bar so it looks like a 2 horse race. Its either KD as direcor of football guiding a younger manager or Rafa.I think because of the £100s of millions the King has wasted on transfers, our global image and lack of lucrative CL,its obvious FSG will not take anymore gambles,so they will go with the proven track record of Rafa.I repeat everyone get onside for Rafas return,no negativity,Rafa will bring the great times back again.

  13. I don't believe any of the Cups are irrelevant. My feelings were totally directed at the performance and the football. How many times can you honestly say we performed at a Top three standard this year? Maybe 5 or 6 games (which is probably the same as Swansea or Wigan).

I am amazed that with both Henderson and Downing on the wing, they STILL haven't worked out how to cross/pass a ball to Carroll. They insist on these floaty, lofted balls when clearly the bloke wants it with pace and early.

  14. Can anyone believe how abject FSG have handled this today, what a disgrace to sit on their backsides doing nothing while Kenny gets laced in the media............................pathetic they are!!!!

  17. Kenny has to stay

  18. A few times...usually when beating the top 3 or outplaying them in the draw and defeat. All we have to do now is beat the minnows that we have struggled against...This is just a case of gaining experience when teh bus is parked...and realise teh goal is a couple of inches smaller than we thought this year. If we beat Stoke but got killed by all teh top 3 I'd be more worried.
Henderson...will become a player I think. Downing, don't understand. But Carrol was being slated a few minutes ago and now he's our best player...go figure.

    ReplyDelete
  19. If he was staying there would have been a quick press statement released, but no, looks like he's getting 'resigned', bring back Rafa, cant afford to let Dalglish waste more millions on crap.

  22. Its a shame that Rafa is not working elsewhere IMO because if you take him out of the equation then i think we would be free to choose a young up and coming manager AND as you said earlier Jamie in another thread not All successful managers had previous success to boast about....

In terms of personal qualities i think Martinez would be a breath of fresh air, a true gent, affable and respectful with a good eye for picking up talented players and making the best out of what he's got....

rafa on the other hand has a habit out of blaming all and sundry for not giving him what he wants when he wants it.....

At Valencia he did it...with us he did it....and he did it again at Milan...., and thats the difference between Martinez and Benitez....

One works within the financial constraints of a Club and is respectful and non confrontational....does his best and IF he leaves im sure it will be done with dignity and respect for the Club....

So in terms of personality i would gor for Martinez hands down, but i would also go for Martinez in terms of his style of football, it is often brave and forward thinking, attack minded and positive, everything that rafa's style of football isn't IMO.

I would be very surprised however if FSG were to replace Kenny with Martinez, it would be a very bold move and not one that would be accepted by the rafa obsessed fanbase who would definitely want better credentials....

In fact no matter who you put up as a potential managerial candidate he would be shot down fro some reason or other and compared to rafa somehow and disregarded....

AVB might be the answer though im sure even he would be rubbished also by the rafa hard core.....

  33. wigan have had good results towards the seasons end but they have never been consistent under martinez.there's a bit of a myth that they play excellent football, they are attacking but can be absolute shite aswell.how a man who has just avoided relegation has become one of the favourites for the job fills me bewilderment.
i said it on here before and i'll say it again,if the media said holloway or curbishley were the right man for the job some ill informed fans would back it.

  34. Not my opinion...just what keeps getting said on the sites...I was trying to make the point that he isn't even in the list of failures anymore. 36. I am and always have been Rafa's biggest fan. It's why i never posted on this website when he was manager. No disrespect Jamie, but the grief you gave him was uncalled for.

You mank on about people giving Roy a hard time. Pot calling the kettle black springs to mind. ;)

Anyway, i think bringing back Rafa wouldnt work. Gerrard and Carra wouldnt work with him. He wanted shot of Carra because he saw that he only had one season left in him. Anyone watching him this season would see that he was right. Like that other clown Benayoun. Saw that he was a bench warmer. Whats he done this season? Nothing but, warm the Arsenal bench.

It's a huge risk. Whatever the call. I'm glad i don't have to make it.

Martinez needs some time at a slightly better club than Wigan. He does se to on the right track but he has no experience of the demands of Liverpool and it might hinder his progress. If Kenny knows the club and has struggled I think it's too soon for Martinez. If it was Jose I would say yes but let's give Kenny some new signing and another 12 months. Arsenal took two years to get back on track after rebuilding and Mancini said it would take at least two years to integrate more that three players into a team. Remember the calls for a new arsenal manager 5 months into the season. Let's look for the long haul not the shortfall.

  41. You need an Edit facility JK! :)

In Kenny Dalglish's defence. Even though like everyone else this season has said 'its not good enough to blame luck'. Its not like we've played bad all season. We just need to sort those shooting boots out. The football be it incredibly frustrating at times has been pretty entertaining to watch.

My gut feeling says stick with Dalglish for another season. If he can get them scoring we'll be up there. Not challenging for the title. But, we'll be just outside top 3-5.

We have a lot of cathing up to do. I think a lot of people miss that important point. The games changing.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Absolutely...and teh poster at teh top of page is an absolute disgrace. JK, you should be ashamed mate. This is one of the greatest servants this club has had, whatever you think of him only managing to win the first bit of silverware in 6 years.
Lucky Shanks and Bob are not around anymore trying to help the club or they would inevitably get the same treatment. Shameful

    ReplyDelete
  43. Both Carra and Gerrard are old now. If Benitez came back, everyone would understand if he didn't want Jamie to play anymore.  I think our core players i.e. reina, skretel, lucas and johson would still (IMO) welcome him with open arms.

    ReplyDelete
  44. but rafa is a world class manager.he'll hardly be still out of work by november???

  49. Wasn't very world class at Milan, was he? He will be out of work by November because he's waiting for the Liverpool job. He knows the fans there will put up with his nonsense again just like they did before. In Spain or Italy he'll get the boot in jig time but LFC fans  are quite content with any old rubbish - just look at the crap they've taken this season.

    ReplyDelete
  50. We really don't know too much about who signed the new players or who decided their wages. What we do know is Kenny has deliveries league titles in the past. I have started new jobs in offices ( not the same I know) but felt out of my depth but after a year and new people coming in so your not the new kid you start performing and some of this years signing might also start next year once we buy some new players.

We played some great football at times and if they can keep that together for a whole season I'd rather be watching Liverpool than any other team. Just need to get it in the net a few more times and the confidence will come.

    ReplyDelete
  51.  completely agree,he's like a bad smell hanging around.i wouldn't have him back and if results were shite again the pro rafa brigade would turn on him.it's time for lfc to move forward.

    ReplyDelete
  52. And let's hope he resigns N'gog, Voronin and Kromkamp ( or whatever his name was ). You don't need to worry about KD signing more crap - the yanks won't trust him to sign anybody this summer, just like they didn't in January.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Wow! Sense of humour failure. Personally thought it was very amusing! Hope Henderson is next for the shaming treatment. What a loser he is.

    ReplyDelete
  54. You know, because Benitez was confrontational that's why us supporters got to know how really awful our previous owners were. He fought for the club he loves and you blame him for that? He was the one who started the protest against the previous owners and we supporters just followed. Do you think if he was "respectful" we would have gotten ourselves better owners that actually know what they are doing?
Wouldn't any ambitious manager be "confrontational" if during summer he was denied any funds? And just think for a bit, can clubs like Liverpool and Milan afford to not spend any money when their biggest rivals become stronger over transfer period?

The reason Martinez can work within financial restrictions is because it is wigan, nobody expect them to have money nor the ambition that milan, liverpool, and few years back Valencia had. That's why the owners of wigan would let him go, because they don't expect to be able to compete.

Even if you think that he was a rubbish manager that played unattractive football (as if Morinho played super offensive, jaw dropping football), you can't take away all what he has done for Liverpool, especially in kicking out the cowboys away.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Rafa is easily the best option, I don't know why FSG tried implementing the 'moneyball' philosophy with Damian Comolli at the helm of the project, it was widely known and accepted around Europe that Rafa was a master tactician and relied heavily on statistics and the analysis of ...
Torres, Alonso, Mascherano, Reina, Agger and Skrtel are undoubtedly world class add to that the fact that they are one of the top 5 players in the world in their respective positions and roles.. Then you have Johnson and Kuyt.. Point being most of Rafa's buys we're top drawer.. Unfortunately he didn't get the backing to pursue other targets like Dani Alves, David Silva, Stevan Jovetic, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling etc....
No doubt he boobed in the Alonso situation and the subsequent acquisition of Aquilani ( why buy a crock? ), don't forget Fergie bought Owen Hargreaves (£18m) Juan Sebastian Veron (£28m!), Djemba-Djemba and Bebe - a player he had never seen! And honestly does anyone really believe that Rafa would have chosen Downing over the likes of Juan Mata? Rafa never wanted Robbie Keane and who would have thought, having seen Ryan Babel play for Ajax that he would turn out to be such an immature little idiot? And don't start with Josemi's and Dossena, Palletta, Nunez etc.. They were a necessity for squad numbers due to lack of funds, nobody goes on about your Christopher Wreh's, Oleg Luzhny's, Kaba Diawara's, Ivan Stepanovs etc ( Wenger has probably bought most duds but Fergie has had his fair share too! )... I won't start with other teams- they haven't really had long term managers..
I love LFC and Kenny too, but you have to question his judgement, for example how do u justify playing Jay Spearing in FA Cup Final ahead of Dirk Kuyt who has experience of playing in both Champions League Final and World Cup Final? Spearing has never even been capped nor is he likely to be.. Not to mention Dirk had always played his part in ALL our big games in recent years.
Martinez won't be good enough- we need somebody who's winner.. Used to winning and with a burning desire to keep on winning.
Guardiola I don't think would adapt quick enough, he joined a winning team, as well as some of the best players in the world he had THE best player, maybe of ALL TIME.. Amazing players like David Villa or Thierry Henry didn't thrive under him and the reason Barca have won nothing is because they got found out, they have PLAN 'A' and after that they only have PLAN 'A'.. Real can play too, but Jose's taught them to be physical, to grind out results .. To be efficient. Without Messi Barca would be average, with Messi even LFC with its cr@p aqusitions would be awesome,..... In my opinion for what it's worth, only Rafa, Guus Hiddink or Louis Van Gaal have the experience to lead us to the top.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yep, losses to Burnley, Reading, Barnsley etc.  Out of the cups good and early because he doesn't rate them. Arrogance and stubborness personified. Let the good times roll. I personally hope he comes back - which I certainly believe he will - and cocks up big time. I'm curious to see what excuses the Rafa fanatics come up with.

  69. lol rafa being in 7th place in  his last season is not rafa's fault but players, they did not try enough. Hodgson, despite putting liverpool in relegation zone, was not bad manager for liverpool, because again, players did not try hard enough. Using the same logic, Souness was also a brilliant manager, because the poor results he achieved was only, and I repeat, only because players didn't play well enough. So before anyone says more horseshit, study the facts.

  71. Pure rafa revisionism IMO rafa started the protest against the owners when he found out that they wanted him O.U.T.....

He was first and foremost protecting his own arse....all this bullshit that he fought the owners for us like a martyr is laughable tbh, i never bought it then and i certainly won't buy it now....

rafa is very skilled in the art of manipulation and in LFC he has found a VERY willing audience...

Crafty, cunning, arrogant, egocentric and pompous are all qualities that rafa embodies, in fact even Jamie is on record as likening him to a dictator....and i agree with that, wholeheartedly.

Lot of ex staff and players have come forward and spoke out about how badly they were handled etc under rafa, the man thought he was bigger than the Club and IF he comes back he will be.....

FSG should realise that if they bring him back they will never be able to get rid of him.....because if they tried to he would be very quick to turn the fans against them.........

  81. Such a shame! Whilst clubs like Man City, Man U and Arsenal are fighting amongst themselves for the top players on offer this summer, we're left to wonder who's managing the team next season. As if it's not going to be hard enough antway, we're going to be a step behind all the others in getting to the transfer market.

Apparently, we may not learn Dalglish's fate for a couple days. Has anyone wondered why? Could it be that potential managers-in-waiting (plus Dalglish) have been asked to outline their blueprint for success for next season, with FSG going with the manager with the best plan?

    Being Champions is more important.
    To me at least anyway.
It used to be the same for LFC on the whole too.

Oh well, standards have obviously dropped significantly and that's why we can end up where we are now, with fans arguing that it's a good season if we  winning the Carling Cup, coming 4th or just see Man Utd as runners up...

  87. I'm not saying Barca aren't an amazing team, my point is they only play one way and those that know me know I was of the opinion this time last year that Real would dethrone Barca. I backed Chelsea to beat Barca because Mourinho taught them how to play Barca, they've used the same tactics employed in the past to stifle Barca.. If I remember correctly in one game Iniesta dived to get a penalty.
I rate Iniesta and Xavi, Sanchez isn't yet at their level.. But takeaway all goals Messi scores and all goals Scored because of his assists what do you have? Iniesta and Xavi never been ones to score 20 goals a season like Lampard and Gerrard.
Take your point about Skrtel but he's LFC's player of the season this year..

  88. Kenny stays, the youngsters on here have not got a clue what kenny is capable of doing, he is and always will be a massive success

    ReplyDelete
  89. He is from the Sun. Jamie you should delete this. Although looking at the above you would probably be ok with this

    ReplyDelete
  90. aww another modern football fan, happy to finish 3rd? you need to stop reading the Sun and get a mind of your own.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Exactly. I don't understand how people are so anti rafa. He made us compete. He made us believe. He made us happy. Those semi finals against Chelsea, that quater final against Arsenal. The Juve game, Madrid at home and Barca away.

People talk about him winning the CL as fluke and with GH's squad. And Gerrard winning it for us. What about the games leading up to the final. What about all the other decent CL campaigns we had. All whilst still competing for 4th spot.

And all of this whilst Tom and Jerry where causing chaos.

Having Rafa back would be a great acquisition. He had a fantastic rapport with the fans too.

    YNWA Rafa. Legend. Fact.

  92. I remember KD signing from Celtic replacing Keegan who went to hamburg after leading us to the european cup in 77 in rome.I rmember when Rafa came to LFC and we hadnt won the european cup for 20 years. In 84 we beat roma on their own ground, then the year after heysel happened.I remeber everything all the success.Rafa put us back on the top after a barren spell of too long.Rafa took up were everything else had stopped 20 years earlier.Rafa produced one of the greatest ever achievements in the history of man alongside man landing on the moon and the invention of the wheel.Rafa  brought big ears back to its rightful home to stay.He got us ranked no1 club in europe always getting to semi final and finals in europe and second in the prem on a shoestring,as well as winning the fa cup.He brought players of potential,Masch Alonso Torres Reina and made them world class.Rafa is LFC.He should be introduced on a open top bus like when he won the CL to stir the emotions once again now that hes on his way back.

    ReplyDelete
  93. You need to do better than just putting "fact" on the end of your statement mate. Provide evidence of a manager who has done better since 1992. Since then we've had Souness, Evans, Houlier, Benitez, ,Hodgeson and Dalglish's second spell.

Rafa has clearly done better than any of the others... Evidence-based fact!

  95. forget klopp and these owners are a joke they should back kenny, but the sack kenny after a net spend of 40m,and a cup win plus 3 wembly vizits and 2 wins. they wont go for rafa kenny won more in his 1st spell than rafa and both had 6 years ! but martinez he was on the verge of getting sacked, they wont get a top boss better than kenny they sack kenny and they don't hire rafa who wants that! the club spilt by kenny fans and rafa fans i say give kenny 1 more season

    ReplyDelete
  96. Don't know about Benitez but Martinez sounds like a cheap alternative, a manger who will be happy to take over and not be demanding investments.

I really hope that's not the case here.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Don't forget people, it was Rafa who asked Kenny back to our club, and Kenny recently paid tribute to the youth set up put in place by Rafa and said its only a matter of time before we see the dividends.
Also people love referring to losses to small teams in the domestic cup competitions- but tell me which 'big' club hasn't been embarrassed by smaller clubs? And how many 'big' clubs have beaten the likes of Real Madrid 4-0.. Don't pick and choose results to suit yourself, fact is Rafa had a very good record at Anfield.
We all love LFC and want the best for our club, Time is precious and something we have little of, Swansea and Norwich and QPR weren't given time to adapt- its do or die for them... I think the biggest disappointment is not that we couldn't win the title, but the fact that not only are we not challenging but we are farther away from challenging than ever before and there is a vast chasm in the quality of our squad compared with the squads of those who have made Champions League.. One thing Rafa did do is put together an AWSOME spine to our team.

    ReplyDelete
  98. bollocks the fact is gh won more in one season and it was his team that won the cl  only lg and alonso where in the team that won the cl  oh iforgot about josime and nunez . then he signed a spent force in morientes. rb won 2 cups and wanted 2 sign gareth barry and bin alonso that is fact .left the kaiser out the startin lineup against milan 0 3 at half time . started with hk who had been injured for 6 months !then binned jersy in favour of the most overated keeper ever pepe no saves.and yep keep belivin in rafa .and one day you will wake up and rafa will still be job less fact!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Lifted from another site, written by an apparent ITK called GBH....the following contains some spurious comments esp re the owners, make of it what you will...i find it quite worrying tbh esp the anti owner propaganda and the beefing up of rafa.....

    Hi all,

    I hope you're well?

I've not been here for a considerably long time but I thought I would
share some information that I've just obtained from an exceptionally
    good source.

We are all well aware of the situation with King Kenny and sadly things
aren't looking good for him. The season has been complicated at the club
    for a number of reasons.

Firstly for those of you that were shocked at what happened with Comolli
just ask yourselves why he did such big deals for certain players? How are such deals structured? Why was he sacked?

With regard to Kenny I think it's a disgrace to see him treated this
way, in fact it's so bad that if it carries on we should all boycott the
club. The current yanks have spent very little money on transfers when
you look at incomings and outgoings so don't be fooled by the Carroll
    fee.

Kenny lost Lucas early on and then there was the Suarez affair. With
Kenny as the most senior person/father figure at the club he took control
of the situation but unfortunately used his heart more than his head.
This is because he knew more than he would ever say in public. I will
    say no more.

So we lost Suarez for 8 games,
we had no replacement for Lucas and as a result Henderson (a player who
really needed a rest followed by time to settle) played a lot more than
he might have done in normal circumstances. Henderson reminds me of a
better version of Lucas in his first season so there is plenty of hope
    for the boy.

Downing was a shit signing as he's always been nothing more than average
so no defence of Kenneth there but Enrique has been excellent value in
today's market. Carroll will become a Liverpool hero.

Ultimately the club have let Dalglish down. He didn't appoint Comolli,
the owners did and after sussing him out and sacking him they haven't
replaced him. They have no Chief Exec but instead have a Managing
Director who is not a football man. Ayre is good but he's not a Chief Executive and that's what we desperately need.

So in my opinion Kenny was, at a number of times, left in the shit by
his employers. They continue to dangle him over the same pile of shit
now and we should hate them for it. This man has given more than any
    other employee of the club.

    So to Rafa...my old mate.

I have the good fortune to know his personal twitter name so I've been
watching him...its funny to see how he promotes himself via this
    innocent looking account!

Anyway, he is being seriously considered as there is a view that fans
could be pacified should he replace Kenneth. Rafa has been building a
dossier of potential signings and if he isn't offered the right deal he
may take his shopping list to Randy Lerner.

In my view the yanks should back Kenny by employing the right people to support him and his coaching staff. They should give him a serious budget and stick with him.

The mancs stuck with Ferguson and it worked for them after a few problematic seasons.

Perhaps our new, wealthy, intelligent, considerate owners should act as they like to be perceived.

    ReplyDelete
  101. hitting a woodwork is as good as a miss, that just means poor finishing. Nothing to do with luck, especially when it happens 30 odd times. And missing penalties 9 to 10 times? that is seriously bad finishing, and when it occurs over and over again, the fault will naturally go to the manager and coaches, rightly so.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I think there is trouble afoot tbh, i can see a bigger picture devoloping re Kenny and FSG, my impression atm is that Kenny will not step down.....

FSG will have to sack him.....this trip to the states could have been a sack me if you have the balls to on Kennys part, he instigated the trip and from what i can gather they have not sacked him....nor has he resigned....

SO, if they do decide to sack him in the coming days or weeks (which i believe they want to do..) they will have to come over here to do it....otherwise it would certainly be frowned upon...i.e. Kenny goes all the way to the States to talk to owners...they sack him via email...or phone call...or leave him in the dark.....

I also am beginning to think that certain players want to know whats happening as to whether they will stay or not.....so the pressure is mounting on FSG in a big way....

It wouldn't surprise me if FSG have already found a manager to replace Kenny with and its NOT rafa.....

All this talk of rafa coming back is not coincidental either OR from any reliable sources.....its being leaked to stir up the shit so that when Kenny is sacked and another manager brought in much of the fanbase will not be happy about it no matter who it is.....

I hope that we are not about to embark on another anti owners campaign....

    ReplyDelete
  103. You know, I miss the times when fans would argue which was more important, premier league or champions leage. As of now, we can't even possibly be top in any of the competitions.

    ReplyDelete
  104. If it turns out that KD is sacked and who really know's at this point what the outcome will be,then in my humble opinion it will be an utter disgrace.I know we have had a pretty crappy EPL season by our standards but we didn't finish in the bottom three did we?You can't turn around a team that was in the state we were in , in one season no matter what you spend, it takes time and resolve,do any of you think that getting another manager is instantly going to propel us into the top four next season, not a chance in hell!,and some of the name's being bandied around,Martinez, nice guy but would be way out of his depth, same with AVB why do you think Chelsea got shot of him and Rafa NO THANK's. No KD has to be given at least another season to continue the rebuilding success is never instant it has to be earned and worked for,I truly believe that a change now would be very detrimental and we would be in a relegation battle next season!!!,his sacking,if it come's,would IMO be a really shitty way to treat this great servant of LFC and shame on them for acting in such a manner!!!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Billy people who use fact at the end of a sentance are incredibly annoying fact! This line that it was gh's team is retarded it took rafa to get it to a final and win fact! Something gh had failed to do fact!

    ReplyDelete
  106. It amazes me that some fans will believe in negatives rather than positives. Its like the Man City game vs QPR. Some fans left before stoppage time was announced. You hate on Alonso and Dudek being "binned" but even though they left, the team never fell apart under Benitez. The character, and effort was always there. A team that competed. Not to mention that Rafa brought players like Suso (who he actually phoned personally and persuaded to come to the club) and Sterling; revamping the whole youth system. You go on about Alonso, but I bet you never even heard of him before he came to club. Benitez had a great eye for talent, and was a perfectionist. He always put the club first, and none of this deluded faith in players that are not performing. Ask any player that performed under Benitez and they will give rave reviews. Alonso included.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Very astute observations. Are we not heading or already in a situation of gross uncertainty similar to the period before Hodgson was appointed?

What people, especially those who want rid of Dalglish, need to appreciate is the scale of disruption to the players that Dalglish's departure would bring. If Dalglish does leave, I wouldn't be at all surprised if some players decide to jump ship (and it probably will be the more established players at the club). When Hodgson was manager, there was mass unhappiness concerning the training, style of play etc. None of that has been reported under Dalglish. Is it out of respect for the man, or is it that players are truly happier? The only ones unhappy are those not playing regularly, which is to be expected. If Dalglish goes, FSG have to get the next appointments absolutely spot on and they have to back any new manager financially, because should he fail....

And another thing, a lot has been said about the money wasted on the new recruits. What's FSG's position in all this? They may not be football people, but who signed the checks? They must have sanctioned those buys, so have to accept some responsibility.

Last point, there was much rejoicing when FSG took over. Are all owners really the same? They were supposed to be knowledgeable in the ways of sport, yet they too appear to seek instant success with relatively little outlay.

    The turmoil isn't over....

    ReplyDelete
  108. whatever R.Matnez wont fit to be a red man 'll kill da team......seems da same 2 hogson

    ReplyDelete
  109. we need a manager who has a track record with winning leagues and trophies we need a top class manager and fsg need to say to the new manager, he is an open chq book

    ReplyDelete
  110. I think the turmoil is just beginning tbh, you make some good points, the uncertainty is definitely an unsettling factor and its leading to all kinds of speculation.....the longer it continues the more unsettled the Club/Manager/Players and fanbase will become....

    ReplyDelete
  111. Did Rafa provide evidence in his 'facts' conference or was he just reading his list of 'facts'?

    ReplyDelete
  112. Getting tiresome the pedestal that Rafa is put on by some fans. Its like he never did anything wrong, in their eyes.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Difference between a minority giving grief to a manager and a majority giving grief to a manager

    ReplyDelete
  114. give him money and see what he can do.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Xavi pisses all over Lampard and Gerrard. Its not all about scoring goals as a midfielders. They couldn't even dream of controlling the tempo of a game that the likes of Xavi, Scholes and Pirlo have done. Hoof-ball merchants, thats Lampard and Gerrard for you. No wonder Rafa pushed Gerrard forward behind Torres and on the right wing (another reason why your comparison between Gerrard and Xavi is plain stupid, from a tactical point, as Gerrard got his goals mostly from a more advanced position) as he is reckless in a deep central role. Henry (in his first two seasons especially but was on his last legs in his last season) and Villa (better than 1 in 2 ratio in front of goal, despite playing on the left) did/have done well in a Barca shirt, don't know what your waffling on about. If he carries the likes of Xavi, Iniesta, etc, than where the fuck was Messi when Spain won the Euros and the World Cup? I tell you who was there, Xavi, Iniesta, Villa, Busquets, Puyol, Pique, etc....who play for Barca-bloody-lona.

The best team since Sacchi's Milan, is Barcelona. No amount of jealousy or apologist's criticism will change that. Enough said.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Ah yes, its never Rafa's fault eh

    ReplyDelete
  117. I absolutely agree, I don't want Rafa back. Problem is, if Kenny is removed and it becomes a straight shoot-out between Martinez and Rafa, then Rafa has the experience of managing 'big' clubs, he knows Liverpool, he signed many of the present players and he will attract 'big' names to the club. But will the owners be prepared for the amount of money he will demand from them for new players? Much of it he will also waste.

An intriguing option would be Rijkaard, if he could be prised away from the Saudi Arabians. Unfortunately, we've just missed out on Unai Emery who is now coach of Spartak Moscow. Who else is there?

LFC have a multitude of problems to deal with, but the one thing that may underlie our inability to compete next term is the slowness with which everything happens. The Dalglish saga, for whatever reason, has dragged on for far too long already.

    ReplyDelete
  118. n'gog, voronin and kromkamp for what less than 5m?

    ReplyDelete
  119. Give him 1 season and put a rock solid midfield like Macherano used to be.Then you'll see what we can do in attack.

    ReplyDelete
  120. I will give kenny another season with a maximum of $30m budget.. If he fails to bring Liverpool back to the Top four than he knows.

    ReplyDelete
  121. HOW ABOUT FERGIE, LET'S SEE HOW GOOD HE IS !

    ReplyDelete
  122. I agree. What LFC really needs to do is further lower our standards. That is always the way forward.

    ReplyDelete
  123. You r the deluded one mate. Every mngr signs rubbish. No mngr gets all the signings perfect. Ferguson signed rubbish too. And your mate Houllier too. Remember Diouf, Diao and who will forget new Zidane in Cheroy. The fact that Benitez won the Eropean cup with players like Traore makes him genius. Read D Hammans book and c what he says about Benitez. I'm sure he used the word GENIUS when talking about him.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Riijkaard went to Galatasary. Pelligrini went to Malaga. Hiddink goes all over the place. There are only a few top clubs around, with the potential to compete with the elite. Liverpool are still one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  125. something about signing Martinez just screams Roy Hodgeson to me.. get a manager from a lower team that has excelled beyond what people thought they would, and give them a team and a honour to manager LFC.. i'd have Rafa back tomorrow if it were possible. The man loves the club, the club's fans love the man and there is a new owner at the helm, that are working for LFC's best interests. interesting summer ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Burned out? not sure what you mean!! I think he will not take a job at any big team and end up in some minor league. He knows he is not the magician, his players did!!

    ReplyDelete
  127. Stop defending him please. Football players and managers are paid loads of money to do their job, more than what an average person can earn their entire life. If you are not good enough you should go. No excuse! Kenny Dalglish may be a legend but he wasted more than a hundred million pounds on flops. The fans wanted mata as winger but dalglish chose to go with downing because he is british and would supposedly hit the ground running. Downing has 0 goals and 0 assists to his name in 36 premier league matches while mata has 6 goals and 13 assists in the epl. For 35 million pound the fans wanted aguero but dalglish again stubbornly chose to go for a british player in andy caroll breaking the transfer record in the process. At the end of the season andy caroll has only 4 goals and 2 assists to his name in the epl while aguero has 23 goals and 8 assists. His tactics and game strategies are all wrong and outdated. He kept trying to prove to us that his flops were world class players by playing them every week despite poor results hoping that they would eventually come good. He kept benching better players like bellamy and maxi. he sold better central midfielders like meireless and loaned our best player of preseason aquilani. Under him liverpool recorded their lowest total of top-flight league victories (14) and lowest points tally (52) since 1953-54.They also scored the fewest league goals (47) for 20 years and an eighth-placed finish was their worst for 18 years. I think he deserves these banters. he should do all of us a favour and pack his things and leave together with his flops...

    ReplyDelete
  128. Jurgen Kloop is the best option...

    ReplyDelete
  129. M kop u might b right about Martinez. I just think that with Benitez we know that we get proven mngr. the last mngr to break the monopoly of Real M and Barca with Valencia. Taken us to two European cup finals. Competing in CHL every year but the last one

    ReplyDelete
  130. Do we really want to go back to Benitez negative tactics. No thank you

    ReplyDelete
  131. It's disrespectful and no fan of any club should depict their manager, club captain and record signing this way.
You may have favour with the 'Kevin & Perry' type supporters but anyone who holds Liverpool Football Club close to their hearts would never dream of putting that sort of crap up.

    ReplyDelete
  132. I pity you, I really do!

    ReplyDelete
  133. Simeon, I think the money 'wasted' by Rafa was on so called 'squad players' as he never had the financial backing from Tom & Jerry to get his real targets. Had they backed him (which we now know they were never in a position to do after the global financial meltdown) then he would have brought in players like David Villa, David Silva etc. The current situation we are finding ourselves in stems from David Moores and not selling to DIC. Sure, he made £8m more and it was his prerogative to make himself more money but we could and should be owned by one of the richest men on the planet.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I agree. No point in adding turmoil to a team already in transition. The club almost ceased to exist little under 2 years ago. Kenny, and DC, brought in players who, the season before, were among the best players at their last clubs and they have struggled to fully gel and perform to the standards they have been playing to before. We haven't played bad football, with the exception of a handful of games, and luck truly hasn't been on our side - records set for missed chances, hitting the woodwork and missed penalties as well as losing our midfield anchor early in the season.
A bit of fine tuning in the form of a ruthless goal scorer and a more creative right sided attacking midfielder are all that we really need.

    ReplyDelete
  135. I'm just shaking my head at that comment.

    ReplyDelete
  136. We have one, check Kenny's record!

    ReplyDelete
  137. I have a feeling that Marinez will turn out to be another Roy Hodgson,I think someone like Mourinho,Pep or Hiddink would be absolutely great but don't think these managers will come to Liverpool at the moment,I am not a fan of Rafa but the fact is he performed better than the other managers we have had in the recent years so we could have him back .

    ReplyDelete
  138. I agree FSG are are on the verge of turning upside down their relationship with the worldwide LFC fanbase. Kenny went to Wembley 3 times winning the League Cup and bringing back Uefa Cup football.

We had to turn around the squad very quickly, what do people expect????. Give the man time!!!

    ReplyDelete
  139. People would be happy if we sack managers every season, madness!!!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Who would possibly dispute that the Champions League is surpassed by anything the other managers won? Total nonsense. It doesn't matter whether you attempt to argue members of that team were GH's players. The fact is Benitez won it, fact.

    ReplyDelete
  141. and most of Rafa's 'squad player' buys were shit, hence the quality of his squad rotation was shit, hence his ability to seriously go for PL and CL at the same time was shit, hence our league points total in the seasons where we reached CL finals was shit. That is down to Rafa.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Definitely needs bringing back down to earth but you just know Stevie G will come out with his usual pre-season waffle about us challenging and how team mate X is the as good as the world's best, etc, like he does every bloody season.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Definitely NOT Martinez. AVB wouldn't be a bad option. Got a raw deal at Chelski 'cos the older players knew that their time was up and forced him out (through THEIR poor performances!)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Jamie its harmless banter?
Look back over your blogs and see how much vile and hatered you have incited about Kenny
you call yourself a fan and a lover of Liverpool by slagging the manager and players and wonder why fans turn against you
look into the mirror Jamie !

    ReplyDelete
  145. To continue on a lighter note at least Dowining will have his first assist for the club if KD is sacked...

    ReplyDelete
  146. I was unable to comment yesterday as was away.
    I would back Martinez though.
AVB was a huge flop in fact a mega flop so far out of his depth.
Seems like a summer of discontent. The Yanks should of backed KD or sacked him. Now leaves the whole thing in turmoil and a cloud of uncertainty.
A new manager whether it is Martinez or Mike Bassett should be there now building for the new season OR the Yanks should tell Kenny he has got 12 more months to get it right so he can work over the summer to strengthen the squad. I reckon though he will get only 20m plus the money for what is sold, and the high earners should be removed from the wages bill such as Cole or Aquilani if someone will take them.
Skrtels agent is looking for a move and Kuyt wants out. So 20m for them to plus 20m gives 40m. What you can get for that who knows but there are alot of players out there who represent good value for money and its up to KD to find them.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Ok, just had a think about this whole Martinez not being used to managing a big club debate but I'm against the idea. RDM, who has worked wonders during his short tenure at a largely underperforming Chelsea side, has never been in charge of a big club before. MK Dons, where he lost a play off semi and WBA, where he was sacked.
Martinez has only managed Swansea & Wigan but, unlike RDM, he has never played for a top club nor has he ever been capped. His win ratio at Swansea was 50%, at Wigan it is 26.7%.
If Dalglish is to be relieved of his managerial duties and Rafa is not reinstated, then we need to look further afield at a proven winner. We will need a manager with a title winning mentality and experience of doing so - something Roy Hodgson never had.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Spoken like a true fan and not a supporter. It's coming to something when so called fans slag their best players off before the next season has even started.

    ReplyDelete
  149. I agree with you 100%.

    ReplyDelete
  150. Stop sitting on the fence. Please make your opinion absolutely clear.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Perhaps it will be down to the man who gives the best presentation with PowerPoint.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Most top players dont make top managers. Some  managers never played at all Benitez and Wenger. Alan Pardew never played at a high level and some of the top 8 managers never were more than journeymen, like SAF and Moyes. Redknapp was an average player at West Ham.
Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, Geoff Hurst, Bobby Moore, Graeme Souness, Glen Hoddle, Rudd Gullit were not good managers.
Martinez teams play football, Wigan played themselves out of relegation didnt kick themselves out and against all the odds beat the top clubs home and away at the death.
He is articulate and has acquired a very great understanding of the English game as well as indepth knowledge of the game on the Continent particularly Spain and has brought in many South Americans to the club also.
If he came I would give him my full backing because he is a hungry ambitious young manager which is what is needed.

    ReplyDelete
  153. i for one for was one of those that though rafa neeed to be replace after his last season but i did not call for his head as i could not see a better manager that would replace him due to the problems with owners we were facing.

If you look at the names mention at the momoent i would have to the say Rafa is the best chioce and heres why:

Martinez: done well at wigan with limited budget and kept them in the primiership last couple of season but their has been no progress in that the team find's itself fighting the same fight season after season not climb the table as would be the case with developing and improving a squard season after season

AVB: His failings at Chelsea say it all, when we got rid Hodgson he was my first choice to replace him; but he showed at chelsea that he could not handle the big name players and hat took less than 8 months

KK: when he was appointed i thought th club was in for a stable period; but then his summer signing wher a joke we could of signed Mata and silva for less money then he spent and had a better season. so the question remains what the hail was he think when he signed these players? does he have a clue?  The only Kenny can stay now is if the club back him with at least 40 million for transfers and if htey are not perpared to do that then its pointless in keeping him. And he needs to gets that stupid idea out of his head of signing the best of British. Their is a reason that UK does not export players (no Italian or Spainish club are fighting tooth and nail to sign British playerrs during hte transfer windows, because they are not good enough, yet british clubsare running to buy the best from spain or italy).

Rafa: For me the best of the lot provid he can do it ewith the best of them, at times confound me but winning the Champions league and finishing 2nd finishing in the top 4 bar to occassion speaks volumes and getting to that second champions League final in 2007 with the hope that we could win it again felt better than watching us win the carling cup on penlties againist Cardiff.
He has a better track recolrd than all the above. Some off his signs may have questionable but we never went in to games expecting to lose.

In terms of importance i measure it the following way
    Priemier League
Champions League / top 4 finish
    FA Cup
    UEFA Cup
    Carling Cup

i would perfer to be competing in any of the top two and winning the last three cups as consolation for achieve the the top two and less than that it's been a bad season.

  154. Its called after nearly a decade pre-season of giving it the 'we mean business this season in the league' and failing to deliver on such waffle most of the time, its time for a conservative attitude. But I guess you are judge and jury on what it takes to be a supporter eh.

  157. People can talk as much as they want about the final being won with GH players but Rafa did it. He was the only one who could have done it. For me and it's there for the world to see, Istanbul 2005 has been the biggest CL final that has ever been witnessed....YNWA

  160. I got to say, in my eyes there are only few who are actually legitimate contenders. I don't know why people are writing off Pep or Klopp. This is LFC, and there are few bigger clubs in history than us.
I would expect any manager to be delighted to be linked with the option of having a go of re-establishing one of the most famous clubs in the world. I also would think it is a wonderful challenge to any manager who is not seeking to be a part of a Man City, Chelsea, Real Madrid-esque club, of spending stupid money on the best player in the world at any given time. Some managers like to actually prove their worth rather than basing it on the fact they are lucky to have money. I am so annoyed by the clubs that are simply taking ballon d'or's candidates to their club without actually thinking of how it can all work together.
I would love Klopp or Pep here, as they are two of the only managers of recent years that have not let any player become bigger than the club they were in. Also, they are the best of using the right players at the right time(with Dechamps and Murinho), even if they are not of the highest quality(AKA Bojan). I would agree that pep messed up some things with Zlatan but he is the exception of his wonderful man managment.
Playing attractive football with no expectation is hard, but doable anywhere. Playing attractive EFFECTIVE football is much harder, as you can see how much Arsenal are struggling to win silverware. Klopp and Pep both did it though.

  161. Now KD's departure is confirmed, we should not joke about who should replace him. I think all those linked so far will have difficulty managing the expectations at a club like Liverpool except Benitez and Rijkaard. However, what Benetiz did with Aquaman and some of his reckless signings would make it difficult to entrust him with a second leadership opportunity.

I would like to see someone who is used to managing big clubs and someone that can attract talent. The team also needs someone who can get the best out of the current complacent squad (with the exception of Gerrard, Suarez, Lucas, Skrtel, Kuyt and Kelly). If Rijkaard meets these conditions it would be great to have him!

  162. Oh really? Any other manager won us a Champions League, FA Cup and European Super Cup in his first two seasons? He also took us to another Champions league final in his 3rd year, and to the semi-finals the next. All the time keeping us in the top 4 (including 3rd twice and 2nd in 2009). Who has done that?

  163. Personally I think we need a top well known manager that top players know and respect, and more importantly want to play for.....Is Martinez known for his managerial skills by players abroad???????? Would they see him as someone who will win them trophies, and better their skills???? Sadly I think not.......!

  164. i agree 100 p,cent murinho for me he would great but pep would be the one  who would be up to the job what a manager the way we should play football now. we have just lost belief and we just could not go on sorry to say that being a kop fan seeing us in europe in 70 80 90 2000 ect

  165. Rafa was a polititian in his last 2 years, deflected any blame that came his way. We need someone who sees the 23 year wait as a challenge...Mourinho is the only man.

    ReplyDelete
  166. Even Torres today says his influence is what aided him in to scoring so many goals for LFC!
If Rafa was able to bring the players he REALLY wanted, we would have had Villa, Silva and Valdes!
    Look where they are now!

  167. ok KK has gone perhaps you can now take down the disgusting film cover, lets try and remember why he is called the King, its not just his goals and play, not the fact he won 3 titles and fa cups and carling cups, but becuase he is one hell of man who attended most of the funerals aftr hillborough when people lost their families making himslef ill in the process, he has now gone so please try and be a little respectful of the man, my best freind runs security at liverpool airport, he made sure KK did not see the press and got him away wit his family while the news broke, he just got a voicemail from kenny and his family thanking him from spain for making the process less painfull.

sometimes you dont know what you have got and until its gone or are to young to know what a special person someone is, i hope the fenway group get what the want and not like villa fans who got rid of oneil now wish they had kept him at the club.

  168. Give me a break? Your hyperbole is embarrassing. 'Disgusting' film poster? Get a grip. There's nothing 'disgusting' about it. It's lighthearted banter, and I have no doubt Dalglish himself would find it funny. It's called having a sense of humour.

  169. Any thoughts on Andre-Villas Boas Jamie? For me he seems the most likely to come in. Tbh I don't know much about him except that he's Portuguese and didn't make it at Chelsea (not that many do).

  170. Martinez does not possess a Uefa Pro License and I put him alongside Hodgson. There's Marcelo Biesla (Atelico Bilboa); Louis van Gaal and Rafa Benitez. FSG can't be thinking of Jurgen K, as one cannot compare the MLS to the BPL.

  177. "Look at the crap players he bought"? If you cut the crap and look at the players he actually did spend money on then you can keep sipping your haterade. The players that he missed out on (Ronaldo, Vidic, Alves, Silva, Malouda). And the profit he made on resales. You can also look at the youth system as well as the players that he attracted. Every manager has there duds, but what duds cost 35 million, 20 million and ext. Liverpool spent 8 million on Adam and look at how he turned out. Benitez wanted to spend big bucks on quality players. Not mediocre ones like Nunez, Zhar, Gonzales. And who the hell is Javier and Kenny? Are you seriously that picky, that every player Rafa bought had to be a Alonso, Torres, Reina, Aquilani, Garcia, Agger, Skrytl, Mascherano, Lucas, Riera, Arbeloa, Kuyt, Maxi. The list will be long if I have to mention all players.
