Confirmed: Dalglish flies to Boston for crunch talks with FSG...

Liverpool Manager Kenny Dalglish and his Assistant, Steve Clarke, have flown to Boston for crunch talks with FSG.

Dalglish and Clarke were originally due to submit written reports to account for Liverpool's atrocious league season, but after yesterday's defeat at Swansea - the club's 14th league loss of the season - it seems that the review meeting has been moved up. According to my source:

* Dalglish and Clarke left Heathrow last night for Boston Logan Airport.

* A meeting with John Henry and Tom Werner is scheduled to take place sometime today.

Whatever the outcome of the review meeting, the sooner everything is resolved, the better. If a new manager is to come in, then he'll need as much time as possible over the summer to assess things and prepare for the new season, and the same applies if Dalglish is to stay on.

EDIT: Also confirmed by The Telegraph now.

REMINDER: Comments containing personal insults aimed at Dalglish/Other posters will be deleted. Persistent offenders will be banned.

If you are ok winning the cups year after year, at the expense of CL, then lets hope kenny gets a 10 year extension, if you want CL...then pray he comes home Not as a manager. Reason? Because he wasted 120 + m which could have been used wisely for a long long time, and probably we would never get the same money unless we get some arab owners. And playing better? Now even nature is against us, you make you own luck.. crossing blindly from wings and banging you head left right and center with ball flying everywhere except the goal post isnt defined as good play...Spurs, newcastle played good football and their result shows it....and how much money did they spent?

  4. You idiot, Chelsea wouldnt have been in CL final and won the FA cup if they havent changed their ass of a manager..sometime you just have to accept that a particular person is not good enough. Why didnt you show the same faith in Roy you hypocrit kenny fans...A person within 6 months is inapt while somone gets you the worst finish in 60 years after 16 months in charge needs time..just beacuse he was a legend 25 years back..what idiotic logic! Go make a King kenny private football club and support it for life time...we are better off with you mid table mentality fans who doesnt care about the club but a particular person..

  5. 'The players are equally good'  Are you for real?  Yes, tactics & selection are an issue, but so is the quality of the squad.

  6. I don't think it's detrimental to the club. I think it's in the best interests of the club.

  8. I think you need to understand the position we're in, its not just about Kenny in so much as it is about the players also....

We are obvously not privy to what is going on behind the scenes but i can imagine quite easily that 1 or 2 of them at least will NOT be happy.... and might want to move on to a Club playing CL football next season...

Personally i would be okay with Kenny staying as long as we sort out our player issue's i.e. get rid of whoever is not happy.....and don't bring rafa back... i'd be happy enough with that BUT would FSG....?

Will they consider this season as being unacceptable? Would they be right to do so given the money spent etc?

Hence this discussion, clearly we are all dissapointed and to a certain degree divided as to what we all want....

You want to keep Kenny, fine, but that doesn't mean others are not entitled to have a view re Kenny and how the Club should be run etc, nothing wrong with that, this is afterall a Liverpool forum for discussion and debate....

  9. I think you need to grasp REALITY.. we were 8th in the bloody league & getting progressively worse. Kenny is clearly not going to progress the team & he is better to go than be pushed. That is not being disrespectful to KD, but it's the simple truth.

  12. I don't think Kenny is capable of handling the club or the players.

He has been defending and finding excuses for the players every time they fail, while Mourinho would yell at the whole squad of star players if they are not winning and earning their salary .

Also, his keeping Downing in the team and hardly ever putting Sterling in when the season is practically over shows lack of determination in developing young players and more so in helping to improve the general picture of himself by scraping few points in the end and showing Downing is needed when anyone who played football in third division could stand in for him.

  13. there is something like an ultimatum or you're back to your orld as an ambassador or out you go!! Kenny's choice tbh, steve clarke hmm maybe so Kenny doesn't feel lonely and he has some one to support him through tough times

  14. pay  attention school is session . The world club cup is a great competition . It is a competition that will always be won by a European team. The fact that Inter won it under Benitez means nothing. Inter did not really have any competition from any of the other teams involved. Inter Milans operation budget is a lot more than many of that of the clubs from Africa, Latin America, clubs from the Philipines etc. Of all the clubs represented  no club gave Inter any competition so winning that competition was to be expected. Winning  that competition did not save his job , the owner still fired Benitez the very next season. So i don't really know your point.

  15. I think it was Hicks & Gillet who forced Rafa's hand with the debt financing through player sales thing.

  16. How were there any more "signs of progression" than there has been under Kenny this term? They won nothing and finished below the previous season. That's worse than LFC this season. Hindsight is wonderful.

  18. Dalglish has the best of everything, he names it, the Americans pays for it, regardless of the price.  He is the luckiest coach in EPL, & he screws it all up.  Don't give me that he deserves more time, he doesn't.  Liverpool doesn't have to handle Europe this year, he got those mid-levels Brits, which he believes are the equivalents of Alonso, Mash, Benny, Aqualiani, and Torres.  The owner did not stop him, & believes in him, & at the end of the season, this is his report card, and still has a nerve to ask for investment.  These Brits are so deluded, their mind is fixed to nothing but the British Isles.  It was equally disturbing some fans still has the idiotic mindset claiming, Rafa is way more wasteful..  This is not even Algebra, its pretty simple, just like counting one, two, three.   Carrol cost 35M, Torres costs only 20M...How much for Ngog only, 1.5M.. How about the fun to watch Peter Crouch, he was acquired at 7M..  If Rafa is wasteful, you seriously need to get your brain x-ray.  Jordan Henderson was acquired at 16M, Stewart Downings at 20M,  Charlie Adams was 8M.  If those Dalglish players worth that much, clubs like United, Arsenal, City, Real Madrid, Milan, Juventus, and Barcelona will be chasing them...  Now, take a look at Rafa...  Lucas 6M, Alonso 10.5M, Luis Garcia 6M, Morientes 6.3M, Sissoko 5.6M, Fabio Aurelio (Free), Fowler (Free), Kuyt 9M, Agger 5.8M, Arbeloa 5M, Torress 20M, Mash 18M, Pennant 6.3M, Yossi only 5M, Babel 11.5M, Skrtel 6M, Ngog 1.5M, Robbie Keane 19M, Riera 8M, Johnson 18M, Aqualiani 20M, Kyrgiatos 2M, and Maxi only 1.5M.  Now only Robbie Keane is the one that didn't work out, but Liverpool sold him back at 12M...  The ones that costs Rafa are Torres, Mash, Aqualiani and Johnson, and these are all great players, even Aqualiani has been praised by Kenny.  Compared those players to Dalglish best, King's additions didn't even come close.  Rafa's squad may not be the strongest in the world, but it is very competitive, no matter who they play.... Well, take a look at Kenny, you call his additions competitive, those who says that must have been either drunk or still hasn't graduated in Pre-School...  Under Rafa, Liverpool is a big force in Europe, and RB manages Top 4 finishes most of the time.  So take a look, Dalglish wastes over 100M for only 1 good player (Suarez), and one future potential striker (Carrol), but if you take a look at Rafa, you can clearly see, Benitez knows what he is doing.  At least we won't have to see Liverpool has to use the entire first eleven and still need penalties to crawl through Cardiff...  U call that celebrations...Its bloody embarrassing...

  28. Dalgish has been fired.Good news for lfc fans.

  29. How's it worse than this season for us? One of the new signings was top scorer and the new owners still hadn't had a full summer transfer window. We had that -- we spent £120m - we bought realy poor players for way more than they were worth. Robinho was Real's player of the year!

    ReplyDelete
  30. He started him on the bench at the beginning of the season for Adam! No wonder he wanted to leave. I'm sure KD -if he wanted -could have kept him.

  31. Let's pray that Dalglish arms himself with a resignation letter when he departs for Boston.

  34. Here's something to ponder....If Dalglish is fired, how many clubs would be lining up to sign him? On another point, about six months ago I wrote warning that Dalglish was in danger of making Liverpool "irrelevant" ....here's what has happened since then, here in South Africa Liverpool's last game was not televised (its going to be televised tonight at 23:00 ...when everyone is asleep!!!!) and some games prior to this has been broadcast in Portuguese (with English as an alternative) At one stage there were many Red supporters phoning into BPL phone in programs now it seems to be the exception rather than the rule, the number of Liverpool supporters seem to have decreased and those of other clubs (Spurs, Newcastle eg) seems to have increased there are other examples that I have noticed, it could be argued that some fans are fickle but we live in a world where the flavour of the day has to be a winner and right now Liverpool are seen as something less. This is what I was referring to at the time, Liverpools profile is (was?) far bigger than Anfield, as a Brand Name it was everywhere and it was always in the news for the right reason, that helps with merchandise sales, broadcast rights and a host of other income producing options.....and that is what FSG have bought into, its about making money. What Dalglish, Clarke, Comolli and many Liverpool players have done is to make that famous Liverpool name "irrelevant" its no longer up there with the big names because its associated with controversy and loss after loss. Personally I believe Dalglish should have been fired six months ago.

  35. I've basically been preaching on these boards that those wanting KD to stay are thinking with their hearts not their heads, and as a result of reading your post perhaps I'm doing the same with Rafa. I honestly believe he would take us back into the Champions League and would be successful with FSG. But maybe his return with be too divisive in regards to supporters.
However, I don't think Kenny will build us back to the powerhouse we were under Rafa (last season excluded because of off field issues/lack of support from above) and where we want to be. If we are looking at a big, long term project then maybe AVB or Klopp would be the best choices. However, I still rate Rafa as a better manager than both. Would love to see Rafa as manger and Hyypia and Carragher as his number 2s.

  36. RAFA was sack under the last regime the guy had 1 blip season. 2 CL finales a super cup an FA cup and the season we come 2nd in the EPL we were outstanding he needed £££££ to progress. To say he inherited a team is rubbish with out Alonso & Garcia & him we would not have won the CL. RAFA is the rightful manager

    ReplyDelete
  37. Is Kenny bigger than Liverpool FC ??
Why is there so much support for an under performing manager ??
If Kenny gets another year he wont be given financial support because of his track record but if we get a world class manager henry will have to guarantee big transfer money to tempt such a person in which is good for us along with many other things like tactics

  40. If we are on par with Man U on paper, then surely it comes down to the management of these players?

    ReplyDelete
  41. All you guys who want KK to stay just don't get it do you he bought shit players and played them all season now let me explain why he should leave and he should because Suarez was bought in and had an impact, from another country and could not speak english. He then went on to waste approx 80 mill on stat players who were from the UK and familiar with the EPL and they failed miserably, now enough with the age bullshit if they had any real talent it would not take them a season to produce i do not care how old. Hendo played for Sunderland before LFC, Downing for Villa, Adam for Blackpool, Carroll Newcastle, they all know what the league was about and have been their before.
So if they need more time than guess what THEY ARE SHIT, THEY ARE SHIT, Sterling at 17 showed more class and talent than any of the above, We need to get rid of them and bring in a new manager that can attract players and we need to do it soon.

  42. you also don't sound like much of a 'winner' with some of those comments. You have the emblem welded to your gate? As a manager, i am sad to tell you that, unfortunately, KD will never be our Ferguson, as no one else will either.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not being overtaken by Newcastle and Everton. Having a weaker team, to start with, who were coming from further off the pace. Dalglish has taken a team that got the last manager sacked for finishing 7th and then managed to come lower than that after one and a half seasons. And the team are getting worse results now, not better.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I agree, if we are going to go for a manager of a bottom half club, it should be made clear that it is a long term job and only if the club ends up in 19th position, a la Hodgson, will the board move earlier to make a change. Saying that, i think Martinez's credentials, getting swansea to play decent football, and keeping Wigan up, are good. Better than KD's nostalgic credentials when we took him on.

I think that any manager with good credentials could have taken the club into the top 5, at least, with the players that we have, given that we had no European football to worry about. They probably would have spent better as well.

    ReplyDelete
  45. He showed he is light years ahead of Dalgish when he followed him at Celtic. And Dalglish is not a motivator, looking at the league form. The team is motivated for games where you wouldn't need to motivate Lazarus to be fired up.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Yes, because the club wanted to pay Henderson double his salary. Meireles hardly knew AVB. AVB had sold him to us from Porto after a few months.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I think there is another side, the side that want neither and want the club to create its own path and not keep harping back to previous messiahs.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Nice post, Dave. Don't agree with you, and hope he stands down, but a nice post all the same. My main concern is that the team seems to be going backward at the moment, and it is hard to see who will step up. In fact, I doubt we will see another season where Gerrard drives the team forward, so i think we will have real problems in that respect next season.

Glad you guys got third place, have a mate who is a season ticket holder at the Emirates and when his mate can't go along, he will throw me a ticket sometimes, so if we can't win stuff, hope you guys do.

    ReplyDelete
  49. so, are you against the removal of any manager from any job in football? Or does Jamie have to get Roberto Martinez, Martin O'Neill, Jose Mourinho, or whoever, on this site to be able to justify supporters asking for a change?

    ReplyDelete
  50. Yes, most instances. In fact, I don't recall him being such a miserable git and so insincere last time he was managing us.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I'm a Rafa fan yes, butwould take other managers right now. I defend Rafa as I believe he gets a raw deal but he wouldn't be my number one choice. Jurgen Klopp would be. But out of those available, then yes I'd take Rafa. In the post you reply to I suggest there are 2 groups - I stand by those groups as I did not state a Kd v Rafa split.
