Forget Dalglish - FSG should *sack* Luis Suarez for this shocking statement...

As regular readers will know, I was vehemently against the signing of Luis Suarez, and prior to his arrival, I wrote an article arguing that problems would inevitably ensure if Liverpool went ahead with the deal. Predictably, I was attacked by fans for having that view, but as I warned in the article, Suarez has caused LFC major problems. Now, with his latest comments, it seems that Suarez has show his true colours once again, and in my view, it's the straw that broke the camel's back.

In the article in question, I wrote the following:

"Suarez is the complete opposite of everything LFC stands for, and I have no doubt that he will cause problems for the club somewhere down the line, and those problems won't necessarily be cheating-related"

After his cynical handball in the 2010 World Cup quarter-final with Ghana, Suarez made the following gloating, remorseless statement:

"The Hand of God now belongs to me. Mine is the real Hand Of God. I made the best save of the tournament. Sometimes in training I play as a goalkeeper so it was worth it. There was no alternative but for me to do that and when they missed the penalty I thought 'It is a miracle and we are alive in the tournament'.

Fans have made endless excuses for Suarez's World Cup cheating, and one of the most frequent is the idea that it was a 'one-off'; a spur of the moment 'sacrifice', committed under intense pressure. Well, Suarez's devotees can scratch that off the list now because on Friday, he reportedly said the following:

"The sacrifice I made [against Ghana] was because it was so important for Uruguay to make the semi-finals. I want to win this semi-final. If I am obliged to stop a ball in the last minute and we win, then I will repeat the action. Success for Liverpool is more important to me than anything else. But I do hope there is no drama like this for me."

When I first saw these quotes (on ESPN), I refused to believe that Suarez could say something so ridiculous. After everything that's happened this season, he'd (surely) have to be irredeemably stupid to *publicly* admit that he's willing to cheat to 'help' Liverpool to victory?

ESPN cites 'The S*n' as the source of the interview, so at that point, I was convinced it was made-up. I didn't want it to be true, so I decided to investigate a little to see if the interview actually took place.

I had no choice but to go straight to the horse's mouth, so I called NewsCorp and complained about the article; I suggested that the comments were either embellished, exaggerated or made-up. NewsCorp strongly refuted the accusation that anything untoward had gone on, and revealed the following:

* One of their 'Spanish contacts' conducted the interview with Suarez over the phone.

* The interview was arranged through Suarez's Agent, Alejandro Balbi.

* The interview consisted of 10 questions, one of which was [verbatim]: "If liverpool were 1-0 up in the semi-final with one minute to go, would you use your hand again to stop Everton scoring?"

* The 'Spanish contact' transcribed the interview, parts of which were then published.

In a bid to further verify that the interview took place, I tried to contact Suarez's Agent, Alejandro Balbi, but one of his lackeys refused to put me through, stating that he had 'no comment'.

Dozens of reputable news organisation have carried the story (including ITV sport, Setanta Sports, Daily Mail, Goal, Eurosport etc), so on the balance of probabilities, it seems that Suarez did in fact make these comments. To be clear, he admitted:

* That he deliberately cheated against Uruguay ('Sacrifice' is merely a euphemism for cheating)

* That he would've happily cheated against Everton in the earlier semi-final if the situation demanded it.

As such, in my view, FSG should SACK Suarez, or failing that, sell him to the highest bidder at the earliest possible opportunity.

In what universe can Suarez's comments be condoned or justified? He specifically stated that he would be perfectly happy to deliberately CHEAT in a Liverpool shirt if it meant securing a victory. What sort of message does that send to impressionable kids who will grow up to be the footballers of tomorrow?

When did Liverpool FC become a club that offers safe harbour to remorseless, self-confessed cheats? Why does the club continue to pay Suarez tens of thousands of pounds a week to DESTROY its reputation? What does Suarez actually have to do before people WAKE UP and see the damage he's causing?

No other Liverpool site has criticised Suarez for those comments, which is a sad indictment of a fanbase that is increasingly willing to accept and condone *anything* in order to protect its players.

I will, of course, be attacked by deluded, enabling 'fans' for writing this, just as I was in November 2010 for daring to suggest Liverpool shouldn't sign Suarez, but I know I'm not the only fan who feels this way.

Liverpool dodged a bullet in yesterday's FA Cup semi-final, but what happens if Suarez deliberately cheats in the final, and it leads to a Liverpool victory? Would that be okay? How would that be good for the the reputation of the club?

It might not happen this season, but Suarez has made his position clear, and as long as he stays at Anfield, there will always be the risk of a huge, highly publicised cheating incident.

Suarez's comments cannot and should not be condoned, justified or accepted by any fan who genuinely prioritises the club over the individual, and if FSG really have the club's best interests at heart, then they should get rid of Suarez as soon as possible.

How is there any other choice? If Liverpool do nothing, then it means the club indirectly condones what Suarez said, and is willing to benefit from a deliberate act of cheating. This surely cannot be right?

The club needs to make it clear that it does NOT condone cheating, and that it will not accept its players publicly stating that cheating is a legitimate means to an end.

Now, sit back and watch alleged Liverpool 'fans' try and justify Suarez's comments, and slag me off for daring to suggest that cheating is wrong (!) If you want to see the real reason modern football is in the gutter, just read the embarrasing pro-cheating comments that follow this article.

  13. When I saw this yesterday I thought the mans got balls to admit that.

How many players dive week in week out in order to cheat the ref / game in order to gain an advantage? Most of them wouldn't dare admit it.

If you were playing for your country and had the same opportunity I bet your bottom dollar you would instinctively do the same.

The guys got balls you've got to admit that!

I feel he's had a hard time this year, Hopefully He'll stay with us for another season after all he could have 2 winner's medals in his first full season not too bad after all.

  15. No chance of getting any support, based on ethics, in football and, sadly, definitely not from most of our supporters in any case.

The mob will not worry about stuff like this.

Isn't it about time that clubs started to vet their player's statement?

  16. That kind of player willing to sacrifice his reputation for the club is hard to find nowadays but it would drag down the club as well. I happy for his loyalty and heart for LFC but I hope he think the club priority before making any decision that tarnish the club.

  19. I do not condone cheating but at the same time, it is refreshing to see someone who is determined to win at all costs. All great teams have those kind of players. You need winners and sometimes you have to be willing to get "dirty" to win.

Besides, I believe that the words have sort been taken out of context to mean cheating. Just think whether should you be in his place, 91st minute on the clock, a shot comes in goal bound. what would you do??? I would most certainly put my hand out and stop the goal!!! Does that make me a cheater??? Maybe but I am sure ask anyone and 9 out of 10 will tell you the same.

I am tired of seeing players who are playing just for the sake of playing. I want them to show hunger and a willingness to win at all cost and for that I applaude Luis

    ReplyDelete
  20. if england were in the world cup final and i was on line to stop, say, brazil winning it  and we then go on to win if the shot was blocked then id do it.

  21. I don't agree with your views at all on this handball incident, any player in his situation would do the same and anyone saying otherwise would be lying. If you watch that incident again, then you will see that even his teammate too tried to stop it with his hand. Henry scored with his hand too, Maradona did it, Messi has done it, Scholes too did it though he was sent off.

  26. jk you are a fool, if rooney handballs off the line and england win the world cup, he will be a national hero... i'll even wear a rooney england top!... suarez said something that everyone thinks...

  27. You don't condone cheating but it's refreshing to see someone who is willing to deliberately handball on the line?!  Are you listening to yourself?!  It's like we're in the twilight zone.

Would you have the same reaction if someone deliberately hand-balled on the line in the FA Cup final and Liverpool ended up losing as a result?  I think not.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Speaking of Mr young. He's just got another dodgie pen today. But why is he not vilified? Hmm me thinks it's cos he's English.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Nonsense article and continuing to put Suarez in the limelight for silly reasons. Oh yeah, those comments can really justified being sacked... I thought he called someone something "racist" from your article headline.

Luis Suarez is a fantastic football player and the best player in the squad. He's probably made big mistakes in the past but showing what he does best on the pitch. It not right to cheat but it happens - I just witnessed Young for Man U get another penalty for a dive 2nd week running.

    ReplyDelete
  31. even asamoah gyan, who missed the penalty, said later that he would have done the same if he were in suarez's place.and in fact i admire his honesty and this also point to the fact that he is so much committed to liverpool..and instead of slating him,we should worship him..not to forget he is the best player in the team now...one of the best in the world

    ReplyDelete
  32. What is wrong with you? im sure if you asked all professional footballers and they answered HONESTLY, they would do the same if it meant their club/country getting to the final.
countless players have handled on the line deliberately but only one player gets vilified for it because it was a world cup semi final. Why should it matter what game it is? if everyone is so disgusted, why is it never mentioned for any other player when it happens?
As an example, we were beating everton 1-0 in lucas's first derby game. lucas passes his shot into an empty part of the net, but neville dives and saves it with his hand. No calls for him to be sacked for cheating...just a pro that will do ANYTHING to win. why is this different??? if we had missed that penalty instead of having a certain goal then they could have gone the other end and got an equaliser.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Never had a problem with Suarez's handball.

Cultures exist where winning is all that matters - by any means necessary. Cultures also exist where it is possible to refer to a man's race without meaning to cause offence.

In my view, those who self-righteously assume a false position of superiority over people from such cultures are guilty of a greater crime than they are.

    ReplyDelete
  34. The response so far are exactly what I expected: so called 'fans' making every excuse under the sun to justify Suarez's cheating.  No wonder football is the gutter.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Jaimie give up your job!

    ReplyDelete
  36. you sure your a liverpool fan? as i am doubting this due to the constant negativity you show, you find me a player who wouldnt stop a goal with his hand for his country in a major finals especially when a semi final is at stake and i will tell you he is a liar because 99% of players would and the ones that wouldnt probably just dont have the reflexes needed to do it!

Stop giving him an hard time, he works very very hard for the team, something which few have this season!

    ReplyDelete
  37. First of all: what are you doing talking to reporters from the scum? You utter bell! And secondly, Do you actually watch the games??? Who cares what Suarez said?? I'm just glad we have him or has anybody else failed to notice that without him in the team we'd be a lot worse off, I will not from now on waste anymore of my time reading your useless articles which basically sound to me like they are written by a man utd fan masquerading as a Liverpool fan. I suggest you write about what goes on off the pitch and not the crap that is printed in the scum newspaper which you obviously read, to write this article today of all days is an insult to all of those who died at hillsborough

    ReplyDelete
  38. So what are the official rules?

    Here is my take:
If you intentionally handle the ball in the penalty box, the opponent gets awarded a penalty.  Plus, you might get red-carded if you are the last guard against a goal.

These are the official and prevalent rules, as far as I know.

If Suarez decided to play the game according to these rules, and in the process managed to help his team, then he has proven himself to be an intelligent footballer.   Nothing more or less.  Everything else is childish conjecture on your part, seemingly based on some mythical set of non-existent rules you seem to have invented for yourself.

    ReplyDelete
  39. because he plays for united and maybe someone preffers united. oh and clearly because hes not english. suarez is just bullied in this country

    ReplyDelete
  40.  This is football, not tennis...
    Therefore I repeat: Hypocrite...

    ReplyDelete
  41. That's a winners mentality & we need more winners, we currently don't have enough.  Just about every player in the league is trying to cheat or use gamesmanship these days, how about Young diving again for another scum penalty? If you can't beat em join em, I am sorry to say, it's sad it's come to this but it's how the game is played now & we must compete.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I would certainly not like it but I know for a fact that I would not blame the player for doing just what I would have done in his place. By cheating I mean  diving all around the place for instance, like ronaldo does. That is called cheating. I certainly hated it when Ngog dived for a penalty a couple of seasons back and I hated it when Caroll tried to con the referee in the Newcastle match. Henry cheated when handballing to win the match for France. Suarez tried to cheat but got caught when trying to handball the ball over the line in a game a while back(cannot exactly remember which one I think it was Wigan??) Those are examples of cheating which I do not condone. This is pure cheating but sacrificing yourself for the club such as hand ball to stop a certain goal then I certainly am not against that.

    ReplyDelete
  43. what about that cheating shit ashley young today and last week. you wrote we should sign him.

  45. CaptainkirkSaysNo5:48 pm, April 15, 2012

Depends how you see cheating really

Handball = red card - you can knowingly sacrifice yourself to gain an advantage - should it be an unforgivable act? or is it a tactic within a game?

Here's a scenario its 0-0, 90th minute - you're a centre back - you're slow as hell - a speedy winger just done you and is running through on goal - you know there and then that if you slide in from behind you 99% wont get the ball, but you'll probably stop the player.

Touching the player and not the ball in this circumstance = red card - do you sack the centre back? he cheated after all.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I don't see his actions or comments any different than a whole host of players who exaggerate, dive, feign injury, pretend the ball hasn't crossed the line, knock the ball of the line with their hands etc etc. Some commentators call them canny, clever, committed, others call them cheats or actors. Ashley Young went down in the box again today earning yet another "penalty" for United, if they go on and win the league will he be deemed a cheat or an heroic Premiership Winner?
I would much rather have a game played in a fair minded spirit where the best team wins not the best cheats win but the problem is if you try to stay high and mighty and don't get involved in the antics then you invariably lose and the team with the cheats in comes out on top. Unfortunately you don't get any extra points for being an honest player playing in an honest team, it's very sad but the game is all about money and wherever there is money there is cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Are you stupid he is willing to get him self sent of for the team and you are criticising him over it you are thick go an support Chelsea or man united u idiot and stop trying to make a name in the journalism world cos u never will if u can't talk sense.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Shame on  you Jaimie for getting in touch with the s*n newspaper, most liverpool fans would be more disgusted with that than Suarez's comments, at least he wants Liverpool to win!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I agree with you. Winning mentality is what is needed at the club and a few more LFC players should look into the mirror and take a pgae out of Suarez's book.

In a game that is so important, winning is all that matters

    ReplyDelete
  50. Stop avoiding the issue. What other players do has nothing to do with what Suarez does.

    ReplyDelete
  51. So, a winning mentality means players should be willing to do anything on the field to win, including cheat?! This kind of attitude is truly disturbing. What if an opposition player handballs on the line in the last minute of the FA Cup final and Liverpool lose as a result? Would that be okay with you?!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Actually in a way it does because other players are not slagged of for doing just what suarez is doing. This is unfair. The guy is just getting slated for everything he does or say only because of the Evra Scum case

    ReplyDelete
  53. Are you listening to yourself?! Do you realise how embarrassing you sound? More players at LFC should be willing to cheat?!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Gosh, how typical. Totally avoid the issue. I got in touch to verify a story; I accused them of making it up and deliberately trying to sully Suarez's reputation. if you're so childish that you can't see that then you're not welcome here. You're banned.

    ReplyDelete
  55. replied to you on that already. See above. and as I also replied, stopping a player to win at all costs is not cheating in my book. It is called professional foul for a reason!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. DO YOU WORK FOR THE SCUM! SUAREZ IS STATING HE WOULD DO ANYTHING TO WIN BECAUSE HE IS A WINNER AND WANTS OUR CLUB TO BE THE SAME! IF YOU HAVE NOTHIN ELSE TO SAY PISS OFF

    ReplyDelete
  58. Jamie your post is complete trash as most of your posts are. Luis Suarez is a hero in the eyes of most liverpool supporters. I dont understand why you are posting this now as suarez made this statement after world cup which was more than a year go. I believe he deserved more respect during his racism row. Nothing happened to terry, even though there was overwhelming evidence against him but luis was attacked and convicted over what was his word vs evras. As for cheating is wrong i'm with you on that and its acceptable that luis has a tendency to go down easy and he probably should work on staying on his feet more but really the handball was out of loyalty for his country, Gyan got the penalty luis saw red. and Gyan couldnt make the penalty. End of story Gyan couldnt fire his team into the semi's and suarez got his punishment. And in the Fa cup final if your on the goal line in the 90th minute with lfc 1-0 up and the ball is sailing towards your hand are you going to run out of the way and watch it go in. No its instinctive you will block it with your hand. You are another one of those people who are easily influenced and go along with what the FA want you to think and what SAF wants you to think. Think about how much the suarez evra case will damage the epl. South americans will reject this league because of the precedent set by this case. And arguably this generation of footballers have some of the best talent coming from South America. Neymar, Messi, Ocampos, Herrera, Bueno, Cavani, i can go on and on. So i wouldnt be so quick to let luis go as he and gerrard are our only players who can consistently produce CL level performances. and if we sell suarez i bet you kenny will buy more english trash.

You have lots of civil replies. Are you going to counter any?

    ReplyDelete
  68. So, what you're basically saying is that it's okay to cheat because it shows someone is 'giving their all' for their club?

So, in the FA Cup final, it will be perfectly okay with you if, say, Jermain Defoe (if Spurs reach the final) stops Liverpool scoring with a deliberate handball?  You'll praise him for 'giving his all' for his club?!

What a joke. Total hypocrisy. You and everyone else would on his case, complaining of 'cheating'.

    ReplyDelete
  69. Suarez just isn't a person who can learn from his mistakes. What was the wrestling with defender he did in the first half against Everton? What was all the complaining and whining?
It's a matter of fact that if he was playing for another team, Liverpool fans would be running out of swearing vocabulary with intense hate directed at him for this behaviour; But now that he's a Liverpool player, they find endless ridiculous excuses and blame his stupid ignorant misbehaviour on others.
Absolutely depressing to see so many fans of this football club suffer with hipocrisy and mentality of double standards. So many kids begin supporting Liverpool because the amazing support they see from its fans, and then they get face to face with this delusional hypocritical blind 'support' that puts this club in shame in front of the football world.

    ReplyDelete
  73. You are not a supporter of LFC; you are a supporter of Suarez FC. No fan of the club would condone a player publicly admitting that he will cheat to win a game.

    ReplyDelete
  74. At least the guys being honest. Every second player in the league cheats nowadays but they and the people around them convince themselves theyve done nothing wrong. Look at Ashley Young today, blatant dive and the refs given united another penalty. he did the same last week against QPR  with the same result. At least Suarez isnt hiding behind the fact. Until the FA show some balls and start dishing out retrospective punishment to cheats then players will hone their cheating skills even more. Suarez should actually be commended for admitting it.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Your not even a football fan never mind a liverppol fan, its you who should be sacked.

  78. Jaimie, I agree it wasn't exactly the smartest thing to say but to call for FSG to sack him for saying it, is a bit ridiculous. I admit that Suarez always seems to court controversy and there may have been players we could have signed that would have been easier to control but he is an excellent player and we have to hope that Kenny will be able to control him a little better next season. I do think you could have picked a better subject for an article.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Nope. I would be angry at them but I know for a fact that I would have done the same thing were the role reversed.

I am being objective. I am not saying this because Suarez is an LFC player. I understood Neville's blatant hand ball to stop Lucas goal bound shot. I was furious but I udnerstood the logic behind it. He wanted to win simple as that.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Commended for admitting it? Gosh, some of the stuff people come out with is amazing. So, if a player admits he's willing to cheat he should be praised for it?! What if a player publcily admitted that they would spit in their opponents face uto stop them scoring? You'd probably say they should be commended for admitting that too (!) Unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  81. this is so childish really.

    ReplyDelete
  82. How is it unfair, they got a penalty and a red card??. If this is cheating then what about the intentional fouls, is that not cheating then?

    ReplyDelete
  83. was u at anfield 2day jam rag dont think so

    ReplyDelete
  84. Jaimie Kanwar is right in saying that cheating should not be condoned, but Suarez hasn't actually committed the crime. Even if Suarez were to deliberately commit a handball to help LFC's cause, is that a sackable offence? If Alex Ferguson has no right to tell LFC who they should and shouldn't employ then I think neither does Jaimie.

Furthermore, Suarez is just stating what others are thinking. Is a deliberate handball any more heinous than a deliberate dive to earn a penalty? I think not. Take Ashley Young, for example, committed a blatant dive not even two weeks ago to earn a penalty against QPR and today against Aston Villa, done the same. Ashley Young doesn't have to say he will cheat, because his actions speak very much louder than his words!

This is the first time i have replied to any of your articles, today of all days you try and pour more shame on our club.

  88. Handballing is a foul, just like any other foul, inside or outside the box. Defenders pulling or kicking forwards to prevent a goal is as foul as handballing to prevent a goal, they get red card for it and the forward rewarded with PK. So Technically, they could lose a player and a goal, or at least a player. We would get the same for change. Fair enough. Have to disagree with you in this one Jaime..

    ReplyDelete
  89. They are called professional fouls!!! hehe. Not cheating. They are being professionals.

If you want to get into slanging matches, go somewhere else. 92. There has been controversy surrounding Suarez but the same could be said of Rooney or a multitude of other players. Simple fact is, Suarez is a great player and I, for one, am glad we have him. Respect your opinion, Jaime, but, amongst LFC fans, you may be alone in thinking it

    ReplyDelete
  93. So, using your logic, it's okay to murder someone because when you get caught, you get a prison sentence?! It doesn't change the fact that the original act is WRONG. And please stop trying to avoid the issue; we are not talking about intentional fouls here; we're talking about deliberately handballing on the line to prevent a goal, and then Suarez publicly admitting that he'd be willing to do it again.

Where does it end? Are you happy for opposition players to do the same against Liverpool?

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well said, Couldn't have put it better if I had tried!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Jaimie, where is your sense of humour? I was just making a joke. Nothing malice about that.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Legend. He represents us on the pitch. He will do anything to win. You've taken his quotes rather literally in fairness and focused on the bad side of it but fair play - I understand that you need to get hits on the site.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Does Jamie get up every morning and say "hmmm wats shit can I started with Liverpool today". U are never positive towards a player or to the club, why dont u ever post about the other divers like A. Young. We are all proud of our team especially with the results from yesterday.

    ReplyDelete
  98. How is it any different? if you are fouling a player to stop him from scoring or handballing on the line to stop him from scoring.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Suarez simply gambled and Ghana were unlucky, should Gyan have scored the goal, this incident would be forgotten for good. You always keep on about it maybe because you were supporting Ghana lol. Gerrard sometimes cheats to get penalties, shoud we sack him?!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  100. Jaimie, Nope I am not going to be happy. That is for sure but that is not a reason why I do not want our players to stop us from Losing at all costs. This has nothing to do with murder. Most probably a wrong comparison to take since murder is indeed a wrongful act which needs not only to be punished but prevented as well but that is not the issue here. The issue is whether to condone the statement or not.

My opinion sticks such that I believe that Suarez is right to admit that he would willingly sacrifice himself for the team to win. Any player in a football shirt be it the scums, tottenham, chelsea or any other player in the world would do the same.

It has nothing to do with taking Suarez's side or not. I am merely stating that Suarez is suggesting that he would do what any other player would do. Even Gerrard I believe would do it. Even carra.

    ReplyDelete
  101. You must be joking! If FSG should sack Suárez for that they would have to sack every single player making a deliberately foul. First one out of Melwood would be Doni for bringing Down Yakubu. Carragher & Skrtel would be sacked 10 times each every game for pushing & shoving in the penalty area.

I bet at least 90% of the players would agree with Suárez and do the same. The rest is lying.

    ReplyDelete
  102. What complete and utter dross. This used to a good website, now it resembles Chris Bascombe's work.

And Kanwar, who on earth do you think you are to put air quotes around the word fans when describing people who don't agree with you? Do you think you're the voice of the Liverpool fans? Because you're not. Far from it. The BS you spew is this article might represent 0.5% of Liverpool fans who are happy to accept mediocrity but it doesn't represent the rest.

Oh, and by the way, your HILARIOUS attempt to claim you did any investigation or spoke to anyone is just laughing! YOU "grilled" the editor of NewsCorp? Of course you did! Good boy. As if he would even spare a minute for you. You seem surprised that Suarez's agent wouldn't speak to you, nobody would speak to a no-mark like you. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE??

    ReplyDelete
  103. What you fail to understand is that I support the *club* and its principles above all else. You and everyone else supporting Suarez's statement support *him* above all else, and you do so even though it's damaging to the club.

Let me ask you this: do you think a player admitting that he would cheat in public represents what LFC stands for? Do you think the club would be ppoud of Suarez for making that statement? Do you think the likes of Bill Shankly, Bob Paisley and all the other legends who built LFC would be happy to see a player publicly proclaim that he will cheat to help Liverpool win?!

I am so glad I do not share your view. Such comments make a mockery of LFC, and fans like you are the reason the club is losing its identity, and becoming more and more despised every day.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Is it wrong to cheat....yes, it is. Is it right to admit when you've cheated....probably, but no one does.....Suarez breaks the mould and says he'd sacrifice himself (cheat, if you like) for the good of the team.....not sure if thats right or wrong, but at least he's honest. Players dive, feign injury, wave imaginary cards, go in deliberately hard on tackles to unsettle players, handle the ball to prevent chances....etc. Rules are there to keep the game in check, sometimes rules are broken and the ref then punishes the team/player. We wouldn't need red and yellow cards if no body cheated. I dont like the fact that he has come out and said this but i'd rather be on his side than against him knowing he'd give his all to help us win.
Right or wrong.....in a red Standard Chartered shirt.....he has my FULL support. Y.N.W.A......RIP the 96.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Cheating is when you hide your deeds and do not expect to be caught - like Maradona - and Suarez against Wigan

Fighting is when you hold your head high after having done so - and are red-carded - because the desire to win put you there.

I do not accept cheating, but hard fighting with a desire to win when doings wrong things, makes me keep a line of respect, while the card is shown.

    ReplyDelete
  106. Get a grip kanwar, you bile is getting boring now!

  107. .Ashley Young dives all the time, but how many Manchester United fans say, we, we criticize our players all the time, especially on this site, that's why they win the championship and we do not.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Most players would do this, and Suarez is just being honest. Would you prefer he was dishonest and then blamed 'instinct' for the hand ball?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Surprise surprise Jamie's writing something negative about Liverpool. Get a grip mate. It's simple, if it happened against the team you support you would be livid, If it happened in favour of the team you support you would be thankful I think you should actually start realising and applauding that he's a winner and will do anything to win, that is what the club should be about, having a winning mentality. I'm pretty sure I read an article by you earlier in the season lamenting carrols lacklustre posture and drive to win so make your mind up....

    ReplyDelete
  110. Jamie, you are Liverpool's Supporter? Honestly?

    ReplyDelete
  111. I'm not saying that intentional fouls are okay; they're not, they are also a form of cheating, but that is not in dispute. We're talking about something specific here, i.e. Suarez admitting in public that he will cheat to help Liverpool win games.

How can you possibly condone that? Would it also be okay for him to come out and say 'I will dive if it means Liverpool win a penalty'?! Would you support that too?

If not, why not? What's the difference between deliberately diving and deliberately handballing o the line?

    ReplyDelete
  112. So if suarez were to have handled the ball intentionally in the FA Cup final in order to stop the opposition from scoring and Liverpool end up winning the trophy, you reckon the owners, daglish and the fans should come out and say "oh well we won the cup because we had a player with poor values but not to worry we will ensure that no such player will be in this team for the next season" OR should they come up and say "well shit happens in football ,let's just savour our victory and put the past behind"?? My point is as LFC supporters shouldn't we stand behind our players (even if they are on the wrong side) and hope our that our support will give them an OPPORTUNITY to change? Remember he's 24 and his doesn't like to lose

    ReplyDelete
  113. What is your point? I would prefer it if he just played the game in a fair manner! Is that too much to ask?

    ReplyDelete
  114. In fact most countries hate us because they see us as too self righteous and too easily offended. Evra only went running to the authorities because this country is so messed up that you can get someone in serious trouble for saying a colour. If he played in france or spain or holland the whole thing wouldnt have been mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Liverpool have Luis man U have the FA. As far a cheating goes, his only failure is his honesty. I have watched utd the past few weeks and never seen so many players go down so easily or soft penalties given any other team.

  120. Come on Jamie is that really the reason you contacted the sun or was it to attempt to provide more evidence to back up your attacks on Suarez? I think more understanding of the game of football is required here. As has been said very few players wouldn't do this for the team. What did you think about Phil Neville's spectacular save? All the pundits/fellow professionals at the time felt he had no option. Terry Mcdermott kept us in the league cup final with a tip over the bar. He never got criticised, it wasn't even a red card offence back then. However I do think the referee should have the power to just award the goal in these blatant situations. That would stop it happening.

No words or replies will change my oponion on that...

    ReplyDelete
  122. I think that statement, in sort of a twisted way, stands for everything Liverpool FC is. In a day where there are too many players putting personal glory in front of team success, Suarez basically stated he is willing to have millions hate him just to help his team win. When have you ever heard him talk about himself? Never. Everything revolves around the team, and if all Liverpool players were this passionate about winning, we wouldn't be in the mess we were in

    ReplyDelete
  123. Jaimie, do you actually watch football? Ever played it? You are aware aren't you that Terry McDermott did the exact same thing for Liverpool in the 1981 League Cup Final in an attempt to deny West Ham a goal, or that Phil Neville did it for Everton against Liverpool 5 years ago at Goodison? No-one complained, it happens. A player commits a professional foul to prevent a goal, the player is sent off and the opposition get a penalty. Your holier-than-thou attitude is baffling and ridiculous. I blame myself for reading this pile of shit you call a blog, I've just banned myself.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I do not understand, Suarez touched the ball with the hand, there was a penalty kick, the player had a red card just like the last defender who made the foul on the attacker to stop him. I do not understand this rage from you.

    ReplyDelete
  129. You do not understand because you do not care about how the individual's actions impact on the club. You are so desperate to defend Suarez that you are incapable of taking an overview, and considering his comments in the proper context.

How is it good for any football club to have one of its players publicly admit that he would cheat in a game to ensure a win? It's mind-boggling that you cannot see the problem here

What about young kids who read Suarez's comments? How is it good for them to go around thinking that one of their idols says its okay to deliberately handle the ball on the line?!

Why don't you try and look at things objectively for a change?

    ReplyDelete
  130. anyone would do the same. ive read some of the previous comments and i dont think there so more to say. every player does fouls for the same purpose.. its the same as the last defender or a goalkeeper making a foul to prevent the oppostion player from scoring a goal. that's y there are penalties. t dont you positive articles instead of these negative midiocre articles? y dont u have anything to say about liverpool reaching the fa cup fianl?? weird!

    ReplyDelete
  131. You called and spoke to the sun??? You post this on the anniversary of hillsbrough And you think Suarez is beyond the pail ?? Well !!!!

    ReplyDelete
  132. JK you have never spoken to Suarez in your life, all you have to go on is media quotes etc. Why is it that Carra said he would not swap Suarez for ANY player in the premier league and why is it that Dalglish backs him to the hilt and he is loved and respected by his national team mates and also those from Ajax and Liverpool. His will to win is amazing and I couldn't give a sh1t if he handled the ball, Henry did the same. Players are always bending the rules and using them to their advantage. Ronaldo trying to get Rooney sent off, Young diving today, Downing diving without even being touched the same as phil jones. You shouldnt let it get to you. Suarez works harder than any other striker in the league. You should grateful he is witH LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  133. So, Roy Keane admitted in his book that he deliberately scythed down Alf Inge Haaland - should we now lionise Keane for his honesty?! Seriously, the things people come out with to defend the indefensible is truly amazing.

I feel I have to criticise you,  because  you
    really are annoying

    ReplyDelete
  135. Jaimie- what exactly is the purpose of this article? For people to say "you are right - we should never have signed Suarez"??

Have you ever played football? If a player is not doing all he can to stop the opposition scoring at the WORLD CUP finals - then he really should never have kicked a ball in the first place.

Thats why they earn £100k a week doing what they love,
And you earn 100k negative comments doing what you love...

    ReplyDelete
  136. No, I will never be grateful for having a self-confessed cheat at Liverpool, and when he does something cheating-related in the future that brings immense shame on the club, you can pat yourself on the back for being part of an enabling fanbase.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Right, so if Suarez said publicly that he would dive to win a penalty to ensure Liverpool win the cup, you'd be okay with that? Fans like you are the reason football is in the gutter. It'snot the players and their grossly inflated salaries, it's fans who worship them and condone everything they do, including cheating.

    ReplyDelete
  138. why your title is 'FORHET ABOUT DALGLISH'?? So you think kenny sould be sacked too? haha u will never change! i remember you writing some negative articles on gerrard too some time ago. u were never able to do what you wanted to do and never managed to make people hate Gerrard as u do. haha.. i laugh at u mate, i really do

    ReplyDelete
  139. lol, funny how you describe anyone who would publicly disagree with you i.e. "attacking" you, a "deluded, enabling "fan"..." What is even more amusing is your use of "" in "fan", indicating that you would not consider anyone a fan of Liverpool if they didn't support your opinion. A very deliberate controversial way of making people comment on your article. Anyhow , back to the topic, I agree with you, players these days cheat way too often, and what's worse, they are being too obvious about this. However, I think the main reason why they cheat so much is because the managers and the owners allow them to do so.

He wouldnt go unpunished! Red card and penalty! Suarez did get red for handball, and Ghana had a penalty which they missed! Its Ghana own foult bcz they missed it, not Suarez! If Gyan had scored no person in the world would say a thing about Suarez handball! And its ridiculous to say if we support Lfc player that we dont support Lfc!

    ReplyDelete
  141. Be serious (!) I don't write things to pander to people, or for validation or acceptance. Whether people agree with me or not is irrelevant; I write what I think, and if people don't agree, that's perfectly fine. This is the way I think; I don't just follow the crowd, and if that makes me unpopular then so be it! Makes not difference to me whatsoever. In my view, it's important to be honest, and be true to what you really think, even in the face of adversity.

    ReplyDelete
  142. no you sir are so obsessed with being principled and admit you just hate it that our best player by far is not the timid type am so fed up this your obsession with loving the club more than anything, look sometimes to show true love you have to compromise and many liverpool fans along with me will compromise for suarez.

    ReplyDelete
  143. You don't support LFC. If you did, you would not condone deliberate cheating, something that reflects badly on the club. Do you think FSG, Dalglish et al would all praise Suarez for his 'honesty'?! No, they would be disgusted that an LFC player would publicly admit that he would cheat to win Liverpool a game.

    ReplyDelete
  144. You sir are a disgrace. Any self-respecting Liverpool fan wouldn't buy the Sun, read the Sun or telephone their journalists.  You come out with *this* on the day of the Memorial for the 96. Shame on you!!

    ReplyDelete
  145. No, it's not the managers and the owners, it's the fans who are the problem. Just look at the responses on this thread - most people praising Suarez for cheating, and arguing that he is right to publicly say what he did. The fans are the problem here.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Jamie - your 'support' leaves a lot to be desired, you should support each an every individual regardless of your personal feelings, personally I don't even think you support our beloved club since the only comments I read are degrading, again - some supporter. What we ALL need to do is ignore your rubbish like we do to some vile newspaper, by replying to this idiots posts we are feeding his reputation. Maybe if we didn't react someone would see sense and sack HIM.

    ReplyDelete
  147. So all these comments are wrong, and you're right Jamie?

    ReplyDelete
  148. You are acting as if he didn't get punished for it. He got a red and he got kicked off. If Gyan or whoever took the penalty actually made it, we would not be having this argument. Yes he did cheat, but he got punished for it fairly, after that, it was up to the penalty taker to finish the job and slot the penalty away, which he did not. I would do the exact same if i was in Suarez's situation

    ReplyDelete
  149. It never used to be that way, but fickle modern fans have made it that way. I couldn't care less if Suarez is LFC's best player; that doesn't give him the right to cheat. You've just confirmed that I've been arguing all along: fans will forgive anything if the player has great ability.

    ReplyDelete
  150. The punishment is irrelevant; it doesn't change the nature of the original act. If I murder someone and get sent to prison, does that make the murder less significant?

    ReplyDelete
  151. It's not a case of me being right; cheating is self-evidently WRONG. It's objectively wrong, and always will be. I didn't come up with the notion that cheating is wrong, did I?

    ReplyDelete
  152. Truth is, many people see football players as simpletons with more money than sense. However, the drive and ambition to succeed at the highest levels is not really appreciated or understood by the ordinary man/woman walking down the street.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Suarez is a hero in Uruguay for his sacrifice against Ghana in 2010. He did not conceal his action like a diver in the opposition's penalty area or a shirt puller or even Maradona's hand ball. He sacrificed himself for his country. That's the commitment that the "celeste" shirt requires. If you don't understand that, you don't understand football.

    ReplyDelete
  154. April 15th Hillsborough day we should be remembering! You kick up an argument! Shameful behaviour Jaimie Kanwar.

  161. Cheating is part of the game now unfortunatly and as much as everyone would like to say they don't agree with it the stakes are too high.for example if a stonewall penalty isnt given for the opposition isn't given I wont complain but if its the other way round I'd be livid...does that make me a hypocrite..yes but its human nature. Everyone wants to win

    ReplyDelete
  162. so you wud rather have carrol and be relegated than suarez and win the champions league? ofcos i hate cheating thats why i hate barca lol but just give him the chance and ow least i forget am a Ghanaian.... i really like your blog and i have to admit this is the most ridiculous article i have read on here.

    ReplyDelete
  167. Give it a rest dude

Deliberate handball is a foul. It is a basic rule infringement, and is punishable by a yellow card and a direct free kick

Get off your high horse, Liverpool should sack Suarez and lose out on a €30 million asset? For honestly answering a question in an obscure phone interview

    Your contention is utterly laughable

    ReplyDelete
  168. So glad that your comments mean next to nothing then Jamie- pointless article again. The lad's a star.

    ReplyDelete
  169. in a perfect world of course I would as well. as I said though its human nature. i dont agree with blatant fouls where the player has no intention of getting the ball, obstruction, time wasting, diving etc but it happens and all players do it. So why should Uarez be sacked just for being honest. If players were actually sacked for such things there would be no players left..thats the reality

    ReplyDelete
  170. Lol, Jamie, just because someone doesn't agree with your opinion doesn't mean that person is not a supporter or in your words "so called fans","deluded enabling "fan"". Supporters of the same club are allowed to have different opinions right :D? And having different opinions doesn't necessarily make you a "better" or "worse" fan.

So please stop  name calling people like deluded fans and such (this also refers to everyone else), cos after all, everyone commenting here wants what's the best for the club.

  175. uhm... so Jamie, using your logic, Daglish is also a "so called fan", deluded and a supporter of Suarez FC because he brought him to Liverpool and keeps protecting and playing him on the field? Strange, I always thought that Daglish was a real fan of Liverpool FC.

  176. Blatant deliberate handball is not cheating, it's just a routine infringement of the rules, punishable by a yellow card and a direct free kick

Example of cheating, in my opinion, are

    - Thierry Henry and Maradonna - attempting, successfully, to deceive referee, by handling to create or score goals

    - Ashley Young, Rooney, Gerrard, most forwards simulating fouls and diving to win penalties

    - Deliberate attempts to injure opponents, John Terry, while making "clean" tackles

You lose credibility with this article

  180. I completely disagree. I will not compromise LFC for Suarez. Hypothetically if we go on to win the FA Cup or any other trophy and it turns out that Suarez cheated, then that is not a win at all. The reason I started to support LFC was for it's standards and beliefs, those beliefs will not be compromised so some diva can get another winners medal. I personally would fine him some wages purely based on making more drama.

On a side note, I was pissed off about the tussling with Heitinga yesterday, especially when he rugby tackled him. Oh and don't forget the constant diving.

  181. Simon, please drop the little sniping comments (in both of your last two comments) or don't bother commenting at all. I don't care if I 'lose credibility' - I don't do this to be Mr popular; I write what I think, and if you or anyone else doesn't like that, then you have lots of other LFC sites to choose to visit.

  182. Might he have said it with tongue in cheek! do you believe everything you here or read he may have said it just to wind you up , But i do read your articles and you always think you are right and your opinion is the one everybody should listen to , just lighten up . Look at the comments today in response to your latest article ! not many agree with you do they?

Correct...the focus of today should be about events of 23 years ago not trivial football matters. THAT is what defines Liverpool FC most of all

  184. Retrospective punishments, video referee in the stand, sin bins

Attempts to deceive referee, or question the referees decisions will be eradicated within weeks

It's painfully obvious, but FIFA won't implement anything

  185. Great points, Kyle. You stated exactly what I've been trying to get across. It's heartening to see that there are fans out there who will actually prioritise the club over the individual.

  186. I haven't see Dalglish condone Suarez's cheating, or argue that it's okay for him to make public statements saying that cheating is okay. Have you?

    ReplyDelete
  187. So, it's okay for everyone else to have their beliefs about LFC and stand by them, but it's not okay for me to do the same?! What are you talking about? All fans think their opinion is right, including you. You also seem to be suggesting that I should be fickle and just change my mind and follow the crowd just because people disagree with me (!)

I have one view; other people have a different view. Discussion ensues. What's the problem?

    ReplyDelete
  188. Any person in the world would have done the same thing in that situation. Pointless article.

    ReplyDelete
  189. I would just like to say that even during the world cup when he first hand-balled it off the line, I agreed with what he did, so don't say i'm being biased because im not. But surely if committing that offence is the difference between possibly WINNING the world cup or losing that quarter final, surely you take the red card all day long. Plus I would also say that it is not 100% cheating, because it did not go unpunished. Diving is cheating, match fixing is cheating but a hand ball is not, it is just a violation of the law. and also if his team did win Suarez would not have played in the final so what he did was a good act of sportsmanship. IMO.

  190. Please don't be so hypocritical. Why don't you go and tell that to all the other LFC sites who've posted stuff today? It's okay for them, but it's not okay for me; and why? Because I've posted something people don't agree with?!

If I'd posted an article gushing over the FA Cup victory yesterday, you wouldn't be saying this, would you?

    ReplyDelete
  191. Winning a world cup by cheating is no win at all. It is a false win, and means nothing.

    ReplyDelete
  192. No cheating in football??? You are living in another planet...

    ReplyDelete
  193. Nonsense. There are plenty of people in the world who do not condone cheating.

  194. Jamie K.  Your article is absolutely ridicilous!  Doesn't your article mention that Suarez's comments were a direct response to a hypothetical question he was asked rather than a random occurence of his own accord!  I dont think we should hold this against Suarez - he just gave an honest answer and there is nothing wrong with that.  If he had more diplomacy, was more tactful or politically motivated, he would have thought twice and provided a calculated response, but he's not a politician, he's a footballer.  Love him for what he is!  He's a Liverpool player and he's an exceptional footballer on the pitch!

    ReplyDelete
  195. Jamie it's obvious you like to be controversial, that's fine and to be fair we as Liverpool fans should not just accept the club line. On Luis Suarez there is no doubt that he has caused controversy during his time at the club, he has gone down far to easily and the whole Evra incident was unsavoury without attributing blame . However on this you've taken a stand which I cannot agree with, your view is you despise cheating which is honourable but what is cheating and what is professionalism? If Danny Agger takes out an opponent in the Cup Final when clean through, it's a professional foul, is your arguement that professional fouls are cheating? If so why watch sport as it will contain cheating. As a kid I played rugby and my coach always said you push the rules as far as you can get away with. So in the last minute of a World Cup quarter final and the ball is going in the back of your net and you will lose, would you say o well fair do's to them or do what Suarez did? If it's the former you'd be deeply unpopular with your team and the majority of fans. Should Suarez have said what he said? No he shouldn't have but I don't know if some of these quotes have been a cut and paste job. However the simplicity is whenever you introduce money into sport people will cheat and I don't see why Liverpool should suffer for being whiter than white, I'm not advocating doing what Ashley Young has done the past 2 weeks but if it's a case of a professioal foul I have no problem after all didn't Souness used to kick people all over the park, wasn't that cheating?
