Agent: Real Madrid striker Higuain "will start to listen to offers..."

Before the January transfer window closed, Liverpool legend John Barnes urged the club to sign 'classic centre-forward' Gonzalo Higuain, a player who has been regularly linked to Anfield over the last six months. The Real Madrid forward seems settled at the Bernabeau, but his Agent has now revealed that there are two circumstances that would make the striker think about leaving Madrid.

Speaking to TalkSport recently, Barnes argued:

"Liverpool have to get a classic centre-forward, a number nine, who’s going to be a six-yard box player and they need to get one of really proven quality, someone like Gonzalo Higuain.

"He’s not playing at Real Madrid, if you get the ball in the box he can score, he can play outside the box and he’s the kind of player that Liverpool should be going for".

Jorge Higuain, the 24-year-old's father and agent, hinted in January that his son could leave if he was no longer needed at Madrid. He told La Stampa:

"When someone tells us we are not welcome at the club then I'm sure we will receive very good proposals

"However, Nobody at Real Madrid has said anything about wanting to sell Gonzalo and he doesn't have any intention of leaving.

"In fact, he wants to continue with Real Madrid until his contract expires in June 2016. Regarding the rumours that other teams are interested in my son - nobody has gotten in touch with me."

Liverpool were rumoured to be checking on Higuain during the January transfer window, but his Agent has now confirmed that there was no contact from anyone, including Kenny Dalglish. He told Marca yesterday:

"No one has called us. Until we win the Champions League, we will not move. If they [Madrid] bring Aguero in then we will start to listen to offers".

So, let's all hope that Real Madrid sign Sergio Aguero and/or win the Champions League this season. If that happens, and Liverpool make the Champions League places, Anfield could start to look like a very attractive proposition for the Argentinean.

  1. lets get into the top four and then we'll worry about his... Right now we have Carroll occupying that shirt so lets get behind the lad and wait and see...

  2. Carroll does seem to be clicking but he needs to do this week in week out, against any defence. He must bully defenders like he did at Newcastle.....

  3. That would be cool but to be honest if we qualify for CL then I would probably be hoping that we put the money towards someone like Hazard, Cavani, Pastore... I know that sounds ridiculous but after the way Suarez performed for Uruguay at the world cup I thought it was ridiculous to think that we could  sign him without CL football..

  6. Even with champions league football getting Higuain would be really tough for Liverpool but Liverpool will have a really good chance of getting Cavani who is a better striker than Higuain and much more talented.

  7. Actually, given the guy's personality and aims, Liverpool or Spurs would have been the ideal choices for him. He wanted to play in England and he wanted to play against the very best. This means at the time, he wouldn't have joined Chelsea or Man U, and he must be glad he didn't sign for City either. Also, I'm sure he would have wanted to be at a club with a shot of becoming/beating the best, so that ruled Arsenal out. Anyways, having failed to loan Tevez, it seems likely FSG is going to attempt to sign Cavani.

  8. hey, I'd take Tevez, I would've taken Higuain, Cavani would be a dream come true. Fingers crossed

  9. We won't get the best out of Carroll until we start playing to his strength's more often. He's 6'4 & built like a brick shithouse. stop messing about when we get it wide and get some decent crosses in !

  10. Brick shithouse? From what I've seen, it's more like a balsa-wood shithouse.

  11. More like a canvas tent but he is showing more promise of late.

  12. brick shithouse compared to any other striker... I've never heard defenders go on about being bullied by a striker like some of them go on about Carroll...

  14. Reports are that he is 'ready to listen to offers', which sounds like he is mercenary - looking for the best contract! What's required are players who 'want to come and play for LFC',which is'n't the same since the first yanks ruined the club!

  15. If any of you are stupid enough to think that if we get into the Champions League and we play Andy Carroll we'd be laughed at.
He wont get away with his 'bullying' in the CL 'Bullying' is no substitute for technical ability in the Champions League.

  16. that was Newcastle's Carroll - our Carroll seems to be a lot more fragile for some reason!

I thought he was going to be a Drogba type guy (or at the very least a more athletic version of our Crouch) but up until now he's been bullied by his defenders on pretty much every game he's played. Let's just hope it's all due to a lack of confidence and he's ready to start bullying defences for us like he did for Newcastle at the beginning of last season.

Because as it is, it looks like they've picked up two better strikers for a fraction of the fee that was handed to them for Carroll...

  17. EVERY player looks for the best opportunity for themselves. Fans just sound like d*ck-heads when you keep bleating on about 'mercenaries'. Especially when the sentiment is clearly that the player wants the opportunity to play regular football (i.e. in this case, not sitting behind Benzema AND Aguero in the pecking order)
