Should DALGLISH take Wenger's advice and sign this player...?

Last week, Everton manager David Moyes admitted to offering Arsenal legend Thierry Henry the chance to return to the Premier League. A tantalising prospect indeed, but is he still good enough for Europe's toughest football competition? Arsene Wenger seems to think so.

Last week, Moyes revealed Everton's interest in Arsenal's record goalscorer:

"I already asked him [Henry]. I asked him, he’ll tell you; if he wants a game let me know. I’m hoping we might be able to do something"

In his press conference yesterday, Wenger stated:

"Is he [Henry] still good enough to play in the Premier League? Yes.

"At the moment he just practises with us. I cannot say if there is even a chance, because I haven’t investigated that. I haven’t made any approach, neither to him nor to his club".

Henry has always had a soft-spot for Liverpool, as these comments prove:

"I would have loved to play with Steven Gerrard and I like the club and their fans.

"There is something about Anfield you can’t explain. I love it when you step out of the dressing room and see The Kop, the scarves, and [hear people] singing, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ That would do it for me".

Time is running out for Henry if he wants the chance to play with Gerrard. If Wenger - who is a super judge of a player - says Henry is still good enough for the Premier League, then I think we can take his word for it.

Sign him up, Kenny!

  2. bahahahahahaha Henry wouldn't play for ANY other team in the Premier League apart from his beloved Arsenal. Drag up an old compliment and cling onto it all you want. Liverpool doesn't compare in the eyes of Thierry Henry. Don't worry you've got Carrol....

  3. Henry is a fantastic player still.  1000 times better than Carroll.  Sign him up Kenny!  He can do for us what Larsson did at ManU

  4. Hes a "has been" ... he doesnt have the killer instinct anymore that Liverpool require out of a striker ... maybe Moyes is after him but I'm 100% confident Kenny is not

  5. James: Liverpool do not compare??? You are right, Arsenal are a pathetic European also rans, come back when you've won the Champions League rather than just making the numbers up!!! Knob head

  6. This wouldnt be a bad option... we will be limited in our chances of signing a top striker in Jan even if a lot of money is available to us ... someone with experience and pedigree of winning every trophy for club and country is not a bad shout ... what harm would it do in front of goal?

January loans have worked for United, Ac Milan and Tottenham in the past... if we dont have a kitty to get another permanent striker then this signing would be welcomed

  7. I think he would play for any club who would meet his wage demands. If you think players are sentimental towards clubs you are deluded indeed

  8. Thierry Henry is a wonderful player but sadly I don't think he's up to the standard anymore.
If Wenger though he was good enough, he would have snapped him up for Arsenal.
However I guess it's worth a try if we're really desperate... I just have doubts he would be sharp enough in front of goal.

  9. I think James is actually talking sense and it is more likely you didn't like the fact he said he wouldn't play for Liverpool.
As you start you reply...'you think' so it is just your opinion which incidentely could be more deluded than james'.
Many players are in it for the money, not all. Allen van Wyk

  11. Henry said nice things about Liverpool FC, Anfield and the fans. He was a gentleman and he was nice enough to say those things. That doesn't make him a Liverpool fan. He is an Arsenal fan, and it is ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

Some people accuse our fans of being deluded. Well, some of us definitely are, as they keep deceiving themselves with unrelated things.

Besides, we should not be looking BACK all the time. Henry, Torres, Alonso - they are all YESTERDAY. we need to look forward, and I am sure that's what KD does. He didn't buy young players just for the sake of buying, as some suggest. He sees future in them.

  12. "Liverpool doesn't compare in the eyes of Thierry Henry" - No mention of Arsenal as a superior club to Liverpool. But in the eyes of a man who spent 8 years there and went on to become our highest goalscorer ever and #1 fan favourite only to be immortalised in bronze just recently for his efforts. I was making the point that no other club, Liverpool in this case, compares for THAT man. Witness his speech at the revealing of his statue and draw your own conclusions. NOTHING bad was said about Liverpool in my post.....and hey, you've got to be in it to win it. Pretty sure Arsenal have a better chance of lifting the trophy this year than Liverpool. Your insecurity that someone is slating your team is so clear, quite possibly down to the fact people are starting to forget Liverpool were once a good football team and not the weakest of the top 6.

  13. No I don't think ALL players are sentimental towards clubs. But there are most definitely exceptional cases. As explained below, in response to another Liverpool fan blowing a gasket at the idea a player would snub their team, Thierry Henry is an Arsenal Idol and Legend. Doubt if Stevie G went to the States for the twilight of his career he would pop back over for a few months to pull on an Arsenal shirt.

  14. Stevie G - Born and raised in Liverpool, only played for LFC

Henry - Born in Paris, played for Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal, Barcelona,

    There is a difference.

  15. You play for 8 years at a club and achieve all he did whilst there and you create a very substantial affinity with it. I don't buy into the idea that because a player is born in the area or supports them as a child that this alone makes them a unique entity. Henrys affection and value he holds Arsenal in is right there with Stevie G and Liverpool. Remove your LFC shades and see football for what it is. Grown men carving a legacy in the game for themselves, what they achieve with their respective clubs counts greatly in the bond they have with them. Henry is to Arsenal what Stevie G is to Liverpool regardless of place of birth.

  16. @james, if it wern't for van persie breaking all sorts of records you wouldnt even be in the top six, and his injury record suggests he wont last the season, plus your annual collapse in march is in the post so its a scrap with stoke for six for you soon at least you have chamakh lol. the cheek of arsenal fans you are historical also rans you havn't won a trophy in 7 years, (thanks to brum) Rafa bettered your whole history in europe in his debut season youve been in the ECL 12 years straight? hats off!. but 1 pityfull final? pathetic!!. i respect arsene i think he is a genius but even jesus christ couldnt work a miracle with washed up arteta, footballing brain dead walcott and gervinho the headless chicken not to mention mertersacker, he makes kygriagos look like usain bolt. your a motly crew of has-beens and never-wills. so pipe the hell down you muggy twits.

  17. hahaha did a Liverpool fan really just comment on some recent DOMESTIC history towards an Arsenal fan?? I respect anyone who wins the champions league but for me it still remains a Cup competition, and as such open to luck of the draw and good fortune. The league is a different story. 38 games, best comes out on top. When last was the League title lifted by your club?....exactly. Now count the times Arsenal have done so since then. And try and gloss over an unbeaten season too while you're at it. Your analysis of the players you mentioned comes down simply to petty hatred of a former Everton player and stupidity so congratulations there. If ever a team were 'has-beens' as you so wonderfully described it, it would be the Liverpool team of which a selection of their fans still revel in the "good'ol days". Dear me..

  18. Henry is just being a gentleman "talking about shit-pool" at the end of the day would he play for a shit club, in europa sucking liverpoolian cocks or in champions league playing for the great Wenger and the legendary fans? Hes always good enough for ARSENAL regardless how old. fuck u liverpool scums...

  19. "Over the hiill" players again? The answer should be NO.

  20. For a season or less, why not? I think he'd get us a fair few goals, more than our own strikers are likely to score - and possibly set some up for them to score. Suarez can score if he's not creating.

  21. Yes please get Henry and he is much better than the donkey paid 35 mill for KD despite Henry's age and being away from the Prem for a few years.

    ReplyDelete
  22. KD is more interested to protect his own ego and that donkey. He won't sign Henry despite that being good for LFC.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "Has been" but still wayyyyy better that a certain overpriced donkey we have in our books.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ha Ha .. well said Andrew.

  25. James, we understand your point on Henry having a special place in his heart for Arsenal just as what LFC is to Steve G, but the point is Henry is still a good player and pulling on a LFC shirt for a few months does not mean he is betraying AFC. If Wenger were to offer him the same, Henry would jump at it without a second thought but this is not happening. And it's not as if he is pulling on a Spurs shirt.
I don't see how belittling other teams would help your own team. Like it or not we ARE, NOT WERE the BRITISH team with the most European Cup, that is a fact just like Arsenal went 42 games undefeated during the invincibles years.
Argue based on points James not emotions.

  26. Its great to look into the future but what has paying 35 mill for a donkey has anything to do with it?

    ReplyDelete
  27. James, if the CL is so unimportant to Arsenal, why do i still hear Arsenal fans and players moan about losing that ONLY final that AFC played in?
