Fernando Torres reveals Rafa Benitez's LFC management 'secret'...

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres undoubtedly played the best football of his career under former Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez, and he was never the same after Benitez left Anfield. Torres is now a shadow of the player he was at Liverpool, and things don't look like changing any time soon. The once-prolific striker clearly misses working with Benitez, and in a recent interview, he revealed why he holds the polarising manager in such high esteem.

Torres, who was granted a paltry nine minutes of pitch time against Liverpool last Sunday, enthused:

"Rafa Benitez has been the most important coach in my career. It wasn’t easy for me to leave Atletico, come to England and play in a much faster game that is more dynamic and physical than La Liga.

"Rafa has been the only one who knew how to help me improve. His priority is the team but he adapts the conditions to make everyone fit in the team. That’s his secret. To do it, he maintains a constant personal dialogue with each player.

"He taught me a lot and thanks to him I matured as a professional. Without a shadow of a doubt".

Irrespective of how Torres left Anfield, I think it's sad to see such a fantastic talent withering away in front of our eyes. I ran a poll recently on the site asking if fans would take Torres back if he became available. 2000 people voted, and a whopping 72% voted for the return of the much-maligned striker.

If it's a choice between Torres and Andy Carroll, then it's no contest: I would have Torres back in a heartbeat.

Torres and Benitez may yet be reunited; I don't know why, but with the way things are going at Stamford Bridge, I have a feeling that Benitez could be in the frame for the Chelsea job at some point over the next year.

  1. I hope you are right this time, Benitez taking over Chelsea and ruining them with his negative football!

  2. Never mind Carroll, I would possibly take Torres even ahead of Suarez.

  6. So we can only vet discuss stuff that's happening in the present?! Nonsense. One of the defining features of human culture is our propensity for exploring and analysing the past. It's not 'obsessession'; it's normal, and it will continue on this site. Sorry.

  7. obviously we can analyse recent form and performances with a view to the next game, but constantly bleating on about former players & managers isn't going to help us against citeh! what's the point in having polls about having torres back? both him and benitez have moved on, so have we, i suggest you do the same!

  8. People who say Rafa is clueless need to get a grip. He may have flaws, as any other person or a football manager. But he is a brilliant coach and tactician and everyone who knows something about football would admit that.

I wish Rafa the best in his further career.... but to be completely honest I'd hate to see him at Chelsea. First of all, because of all managers, it is him who is able to make them a real threat, and we don't need that at all. Second... and I can't hide it, it's just a plain jealousy. I still consider Rafa RED. And I hate the idea of him becoming a blue. But it's still very possible, if AVB makes a few more wrong moves.

As for Torres v Carroll... I am all for giving Carroll some time to prove himself and leaving him alone for a while... the criticism that he is getting is too cruel, and sometimes unfair.
But... let's face it: he ain't no Torres and will never be.

  10. Absolutely spot on! I would not like to see Rafa turn Blue... and Carroll is no Torres, but that could be a good thing... As for Torres, would not mind having him back.

  11. Since Rafa was sacked by Purslow obviously prompted by Dalglish Carra(who wanted a contract and Gerrard who was in debt to KD for his fracas) watching LFC has never been the same. The atmosphere Rafa created around every match was unbelievable.Rafa was a fan and as a fan treated us fans with respect and not as idiots like Dalglish does ie Gerrard not played for 5 weeks with an infection in his ankle is lies.No coincidence as soon as Rafa went Mascherrano and Torres went and Reina wanted to leave because of it.These are world class players who know the value of Rafa to their careers.Mascherrano best defensive midfielder in the world says he owes everything to rafa,Reina we all know what he thinks of Rafa and Torres to.Rafa gone=LFC will never reach the heights he got us CL finals was the norm under Rafa yet this wasnt good enough for some people, instead these same people are idolising Dalglish who has wasted £130m in 6 months and say scraping into 4th is now seen as successful. To cover himself Dalglish is now saying hes building for the future,Wenger builda for the future by spending peanuts on untapped potential and hes successful as well.Dalglish buys off the peg realised potential for 13% of a billion pounds in 6 months and we are going nowhere. We beat Arsenal and Chelsea when it was a good time to play them.Look at the results at anfield absolutely pitiful. At least Dalglish has realised Rafas bargain basement buys are his only chance now,Maxi,Lucas,Reina, skrtle,Agger,Johnson all combined cost the same as Carroll.I dont blame Carroll i blame Dalglish who when he took over said he would spend Henrys money as though it was his own, more lies.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Your criticism of Dalglish is totally out of order.
You suggest that Rafa's bigger fan of LFC than Dalglish - it is a nonsense.
You suggest that Dalglish lies and covers his a$$ about building for the future development - nonsense.
You suggest that he spent big money just for the sake of spending - nonsense.

Dalglish may have made a mistake with buying Carroll for such a big amount of money. He made some other mistakes too. But they are mistakes, not wrongdoings. Rafa made quite a few mistakes too, and people accuse him of wrongdoing...
Some fans should grow up and stopt judging things as black & white.

  13. As i mentioned earlier, the door is still open for Torres to return only the fee need to be sorted out. Caroll can learn a thing or two fromTorres. Remember we had Rush and Aldridge at athe same time for 2-3 years.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Being a fan of the club means you understand the fans and act accordingly. The fans have a right to know whats going on,Rafa was always truthful and honest with the fans,I done believe anything Dalglish says, always in the dark over Carrolls injurys Gerrards injury why not come out and tell us the truth..Dalglish has used his position as an iconic figure to get everyone on his side and pressured the new owners into getting him the job. When you buy unproven potential you dont spend £35m,£20m you do what Wenger and Rafa  do and buy Anelka£500k Van Persie £3m Reina £6m Alonso £9m and youy as a great coach develop them.Dalglish is just the mouth piece of the club who needs ex managers to show him the way.Rafa could do it all himself he didnt need ex managers. If we lose Rafa to another club i feel we will never be a force in football again,if Dalglish became a martyr and stepped aside for Rafa for the good of the club then when dalglish says nobody is bigger than this club and he wants the best for this club then people would respect him for practiscing what he preaches and not just see him as someone who is trying to turn the clock back 20 years for one final hurrah.

  16. unfortunately, these days you DO have to pay huge amounts for potential, ask slur alex, did he not fork out £16m or so for jones and another fortune for de gea? you need to get real! you also have a selected memory, the vast majority of benitez's buys were FLOPS! and if you heard what torres & masch said when they left, it started with the sale of alonso, WHO BENITEZ SOLD!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. how sad are you u need to the doctors about your memory,do u not remember torres with his head down for a year he put no effort in to his game thats how he lost it. then u got suarez who puts 100 percent into every game u need to watch more football and sort ur heads out

  19. I can't understand y u criticise Kenny Dalglish. Were it not for him LFC would have been relegated to Division 1 at this time let alone the top four. Torres was sold because he handed a transfer request, and he's not coming back. Rafa was brilliant mind u and I was gutted to see him leave. However we're only 4 months into the new season given time u'll see what Kenny Dalglish does for Liverpool. But your assertion that Kenny is keeping Gerrard and lying about his injury is the biggest piece of nonsense I've read. If you got to blame people for the clubs downfall, then blame the previous owners and Roy Hodgson. Rafa inherited an already good team from Gerard Houllier, the Defence and Midfield were already good and Rafa just added his touch to it. Kenny inherited a side that included Ngog, Jovanovic,Poulsen,Konchesky,Babel etc. The team needed a massive overhaul in every position.

  20. Abramaovich hired one of the men that went to two European Cup finals in the space of 3 years and won one of them, he may just try the other and get success... you never know

    ReplyDelete
  21. Rafa inherited a poor side off houllier who scraped into 4th place on last game of the season.Mellor,Biscan,smicer,baros,traore.No other manager would have won european cup with these squad players.everyone was against rafa getting rid of owen and murphy, yet rafa was proved right by replacing them with alonso and garcia.Voronin maxi ngog jovanovic kyriarkos were signed by rafa for a combined £3m,why people keep criticising rafa for signing these is beyond belief when they cost nothing and nothing is alls he ever had to spend.Dalglish has been very careful to appease these new owners to get what he wanted. He knows the owners want the youth to be given a chance and last season he started integrating some of the youth players before he had the job.Once given the job instead of biding his time for the right player like Wenger or Rafa would of he has literally thrown a fortune at average unproven players to make an immediate impact, this in my eyes is selfish. In my eyes wenger or rafa would buy the right player for  a lot of money but definitely wouldnt jepordise the future of the club by gambling all the clubs money basically on a gamble on unproven players so if it pays off he looks fantastic and if it fails well he will get his contract payed up and he can go back to playing golf.Rafa knows the market and the value ,Dalglish has panicked due to him being out the game and also knowing at his age he is in the last chance saloon.

  22. Idiot! Two Champions League finals, FA cup final, League Cup final. Charity shield. European Super cup. 2nd in the prem and regular champions league football substantiates this assertion!

  23. the majority of the CL winning team was houllier's and IMO they won it DESPITE benitez! rafa's team & tactics got us 3-0 down, circumstances DEMANDED he field the team in the second half that 99% of reds would've started with! you've also brought wenger into it now, is that the same wenger who the gooners are losing patience with because he's won nowt in 6 yrs? i rest my case!

  25. Some of you seem to forget that Liverpool approached 6clubs on the last few days of January transfer window asking on availability of certain strikers and were told firmly that they would not be sold in January window, with the position the club was in, Torres wanting out, relegation a possibility they had to push through a deal with any club that seemed open to approach, mike Ashley knew this and after originally been willing to accept 25 million he realised Liverpool had 50million and desperately needed a striker so he held us to ransom. Andy Carroll was by no means Liverpool or dalglish first choice replacement but was only one who a deal could be done with quickly, dalglish cannot b blamed for signing him, nobody knew then how Suarez would settle which would have left us only ngoggg hmm

    ReplyDelete
  26. "instead these same people are idolising Dalglish who has wasted £130m in 6 months and say scraping into 4th is now seen as successful." Good point there. I mean people were bashing Rafa on signing Voronin and N'gog when we were getting into the top 4. Yet we signed a 35 million striker that isn't even half as good as these players. I think Kenny has what it takes to make Liverpool great, his philosophy of playing football hasn't changed since his playing days. Its just that 99% of today's British footballers have no brains. I think if Dalglish goes abroad we will get players who can adapt to his system. I'm sure if we get a couple of Barca non-starters or rejects and you watch how much they will blossom under Liverpool because they have trained in the pass and move philosophy.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Voronin was a flop, N'gog was a flop. Did they cost 35 million?

    ReplyDelete
  28. and morientez, josemi, voronin, degen, kewell, babel, gonzalez, nunez, pennant, and my two index fingers are too sore to list the rest of them! and yes, carroll was overpriced but IT WAS deadline day and all the owners wanted was £15m left from the traitorres deal, was HE not vastly overpriced considering his form?

    ReplyDelete
  29. These are players that were bought for small amounts of money. You can't really call them flops because most of these players are better than the real flop Carroll. "all the owners wanted was 15mil". Was Benitez ever given that much backing? You also say Benitez selling Alonso was a big mistake. What about Meireles, our player of the year last year, who was sold. I would also like to add that Alonso's replacement was Aquilani. This was one of the very few occasions where Rafa was given a significant amount of money to buy a player. And Aquilani was an ideal replacement. Is Carroll and ideal replacement for Torres?

    ReplyDelete
  30. kenny had no time to buy the ideal replacement for torres and he had no choice but to sell raul as he, like traitorres, requested a transfer! what would you have done?

  36. Mate what's up with you...kk is working miracles...

what would you rather have us playing in non league football if kk didn't take over and sign Andy Carroll..Carroll scored twice last year to keep us up...

..you have to give Carroll a chance because he is only 22yrs old and is 3 months older than Ngog ...and he had to move to a new country and culture in mersey side and is miles away from home in newcastle whilst ngog only had to move from Paris just down road.

Andy only cost 35million whilst Ngog cost us 0.5million and that's why we cannot buy any more because all our budget was spent ngog .

Kk did well signing Carroll on the last day for 35million because if he waited till summer he would have had to pay at least 5million.

kk knows what he's doing...you just have to believe ..just take my word for it

  37. Without wanting to get caught up in the argument about KD, the notion Liverpool won champions league despite Rafa is pretty absurd.
Last time I checked, a manager has 90minutes plus stoppage time to get a desired result so Liverpool did lose the first half 3-0 but won the second half 3-0 on the way to winning the match.
Would start to question Ancelotti had the wrong team on then? AC Milan was a class above Liverpool with the current world footballer of that time, Kaka in his best form as well as most of the players they still have now at the peak of their careers.Rafa is rightly lauded for outwitting this vastly superior side with what he had at his disposal much in the same vein he twice beat moneybags Real Madrid and Barcelona to the title despite having a team weaker on paper than the perennial la liga winners.
It could also be argued that if as many insist that Rafa won with Houlier's team, why couldn't Houlier win the Champions league with his own team. Would people say the same thing if KD wins the title or any trophy this year using the team that beat Chelsea last weekend, a team largely assembled by Rafa.
It is convinient for people to look for issues to distract but fail to realise what happened in Instanbul is rightly lauded as the best champions league final to date and also the 2001 EUFA final against Alaves which was another back and forth affair being rated as the best final of that trophy under the old EUFA Cup moniker.
This is what Liverpool does, i.e win despite or because of the odds irregardless of who is managing at the time because liverpool managers are suppossed to do it for the fans not to massage their own egos. Houlier had his time won his trophies so did Rafa, Unfortunately Roy Hodgson did not so what is left is for KD to add trophies in his second stint and be judged as a manager on what he is doing for the club in the current stint but he will still remain an icon overall.
This is what makes Liverpool the club it is, Never give up and more importantly YOU NEVER WALK ALONE

  38. one factor and the only factor why Torres was truly amazing at LFC is- STEVEN GERRARD.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yes, only 50 mil. or so... not a problem!

I'd rather whatever money LFC has to bring in a winger, Hazard or someone else.

If 50 mil. is available that is.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We have people arguing that Carroll was realistic investment than if LFC signed Kun Aguero becouse of salary as the transfer fee is about the same.

Than we have people saying Torres should come back, even do he stabbed the club in the back, has and had injury problems, not on form and not as good as Kun, but costs more, same salary and he is older.

I'm not sure, but probably we have people who fall in both of these categories, who think Carroll over Kun, and bring Torres back!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Meireles was not our player of the year that was Lucas. I have a lot of respect for Rafa and believe that every fan of football should read
"An Epic Swindle: 44 Months With a Pair of Cowboys", but especially the Rafa haters. I have read the book and I would have acted exactly the same as Rafa and Torres if I had those two idiots in charge. And before anyone responds Torres was promised so much and the cowboys never followed through, with 2 weeks of the transfer window Torres probably thought the FSV (NESV) were the same as those fools. I would have wanted to leave if I felt promises will not be kept. Once he left he will have realised that these guys are different and that will hurt as I do believe he loves Liverpool.

    ReplyDelete
  42. wake up for christ sake!! aguero would not of came to liverpool regardless, do i have to state the obvious, champs league.......der! instant success at liverpool?..............no.  mega wages at liverpool?...........no.

  44. this demonstates how the nonsense in the media suggesting torres and gerrrard would leave if benitez wasnt sacked was a smear campaign against rafa, the said smear campaign was a massive factor in turning the more fickle liverpool fans agaisnt rafa and thus allowing what was ultimately an otherwise powerless chain of command to appoint roy"the pr nightmare"hodgsen.

  47. one fact - Gerrard was called one of the best players in the world only when Rafa had the insight to play him out of his favoured position. Gerrard had his two best years on the right hand side and playing off Torres - who made him play those positions even though he didnt like it?

    ReplyDelete
  48. Modric handed in a transfer request - Tottenham said no.

Chelsea are sinking, Tottenham are flying and kept their player who may now think twice about joining Chelsea

Maybe we should have done the same with Meireles, or even Torres ? I have never understood why we have sold to our rivals. Look at the Heinze situation, he wanted to come to Anfield but Fergie said in your dreams, we sell to who we want like it or lump it.

We would have won the Champions league without Rafa? Grow up

    ReplyDelete
  51. that's a fair point! i guess lfc only want players who WANT to play for lfc (with the exception of pepe) and i must say, i would probably feel the same. but the fact is these days, the majority of players don't have any loyalty and only play where the money is! i think the carras, gerards, giggs and scholes are, sadly, a thing of the past

    ReplyDelete
  52. lee, i think everyone knew from the first minute that FSG were different! kenny was back and suarez was in the bag when torres decided to quit rather than give it SIX months, he never gave the owners or kenny a chance, so don't tell me he loved liverpool, especially as he himself has sinse said that he never did!

    ReplyDelete
  53. If you added up all their transfer amount...it probably doesn't add up to Carroll 35million but if you add downing 20million to the total...then all Rafas so called flops in 6 yrs don't add to that amount.

    ReplyDelete
  54. what negative football when benitez was at liverpool bar one year we made top four every season (came 2nd twice) and won the champions league Yes negative indeed(!)

    ReplyDelete
  55. what i cant understand is the flack that KK is getting. We give souness, evans, houllier, benitez (with hodgson aside) time to get it right. if KK is saying he needs time to build then we should give him it. he has not been back at the club a whole year yet and some people are doubting his credentials! If you asked yourself why you support liverpool in the first place and whos picture you had on your wall as a kid then KK would have a lot to do with it.  KK does not need a seal of approval or respect from fans as any liverpool fan that has a knowledge of the club would know that he has earned that long ago, and if you dont know who he is and what he has achieved then get on you tube or your head in a book and learn! Why you will hear his name ring out from the kop (if you actually go to the game you  will know) is the fact that they are the people who actually understand what he has done, did and why they will give him time and have confidence in him.   I do hope Andy Carroll does put egg on peoples faces as there is not many strikers who KK buys that dont come good. they all get to a point then the goals start flooding in. some liverpool fans have nothing but negativity to say about liverpool. in some cases they just stare at the facts! i have some friends who are liverpool fans who just look at the results and make their opinion from this, they look at the table and think we are rubbish because of our standing, but if they actually went to the game and watched us they will see that the football we are playing is good and always getting better.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Steve I think you will find that those types of players are rare and are more than likeley always local players or lifelong fans of the club. Totti has Roma in his blood that is why he never joined Madrid and did not win as much as he could have...  it is unlikeley LFC will produce Fowler, Mcmanaman, Gerrard, Carragher, all in one confined time period for us to have that loyalty and success, everyone will want to move on unless their short careers are going somewhere. This also applies for Luis Suarez who I also think will leave in a few seasons.

  57. I remember Dalglish signing form celtic to replace keegan.Dalglish is not a manger or a coach, how many games have we led under Dalglish when we couldnt hold on to the lead. This never happened under Rafa.Rafa is IMO  the best tactician in world football.Rafa conjured up LFCs finest triumph by replacing owen and Murphy with Garcia and Alonso and produced the greatest ever sporting miracle ever and some of these disgusting thick bitter and twisted so called LFC fans still try to pick holes in Rafas achievement in beating a fantastic Milan team maldini, kaka, schevchenko, guttuso,i am actually sickened by the brainwashe LFc fans who side with the sun and fergie and allardyce and bruce in their hate campaign against a great man in Rafa. Now we have Dalglishh who has used his standing with LFC fans to get were he is at the expense of LFCs RIP Liverpool its been great these last 36 years but everything comes to an end.

    ReplyDelete
  58. What memory and percentages are you talking about? I just mentioned I would take Torres ahead of Suarez for my LFC team, there's no mention of what happened when Torres left etc.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Whats with all the vitriol mate, Rafa was a great coach granted, but to laud him as the great tactician who won us the clf in 05 is a bit rich this is the same coach who played a totally unfit, Kewell ahead of Hamman, the same tactician who did not bring the only player  Milan were scared of in Crouch in the 2nd final until it was too late, who subbed an uninjured Torres against Birmingham when we needed a win in the year we finished 2nd to ManURE.
Yes he was a great coach but your acting like he was JC he made as many mistakes as there was brilliant ones and towards the end he had lost the plot somewhat.
Kenny Dalglish is our manager try supporting him and the team mate.

  60. I wouldn't want Torres back at all. He's a traitor in my mind, I'm delighted he's been an abject failure at Chelsea. Petty? Yes. Give a s***? No.

    ReplyDelete
  61. When Rafa won the cl in 05 he won great ganes against europes elite, juventus chelsea and milan at that time were unbeatable.Milan had an unbelievable team which was vastly superior to LFCs.How people can be critical of Liverpools finest hour in their whiole history baffles me.Rafa in the previous year won the uefa cup with valencia and la liga as well as winning european manager of the year in 04 and 05.In 07 he played with jusytKuyt up front due to no funding for a real striker he had to try to contain milan and nick a win.On Crouch when Rafa signed him he was crucified when rafa played him he was crucified when rafa didnt play him he was crucified when rafa did play him he was crucified. When Rafa sold him he was crucified. On Torres the guy idoes get persistent hamstings so needs looking after. In Rafas last season torres missed most of season as well as Gerrard missing half=no cash of the americans to build a squad 7th was about right oh and another european semifinal even rafas worst season will far outweigh anything money bags dalglish does.Rafa earned all his money he doubled LFCs turnover from £90m per year when he took over to more than double per year when he left.Dalglish is like some silver spoon rich kid given everything on a plate and hasnt done a thing for it.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Sorry, but as much as i liked Rafa, he made mistakes, unfortunately you are unable to acknowledge them, thats your choice.
But i do not understand your vitriol of Dalglish, he did not get Rafa sacked, Rafa did, with every great thing he did there were a few boobs along the way, the hawking of Alonso around europe so he could try to buy Barry FFS, then when Alonso went replacing him with a crock in Aquilani for 17 mill, paying 18 mill for Glen Johnson, Jesus h Christ !!!! and i do not remember Rafa being crucified for playing Crouch, the lad took time to settle, then scored some great goals, oh and lets not forget R Keane, 20 mill and would not play him because Rafa wanted Barry and spat his dummy out, when he went to City.
You have a blinded view of him mate, but then you nametag says it all.

Last thing i'm gona say on this let the past rest and look to the future and support the team, thats what we as fans should be doing, and tomorrow i will be at Anfield doing just that.

  63. Listen!!!
Speaking of Rafa, He did an amazing job at Liverpool before they started selling players to get the club out of debt
Fernando Torres is a talented footbaler, whatever happens, you just dont loose your talent!!!He just needs a man who knows how to work with him.
If Benitez comes to Chelsea, I think its possible that he can built a right team around Torres and get him and Chelsea to score goals again! Just think about it, Benitez was asking Liverpool to for the money to buy some players, He never got any money! And they made him sell ALONSO, ARBELOA, MASCHERANO! TOP TOP PLAYERS!!!!!!!! With money that Chelsea has, Benitez can built a very powerful team that can win the EPL, and the Champions League!

  65. I'm not dogging on the manager. I'm comparing the position Benitez had in terms of support and the support Kenny has. Benitez made mistakes like you pointed out, but they didn't cost 35 million. But you know things can change in football, and Carroll can become a goal scoring machine if thats what you want to believe. Potential can only make you believe so far, and in Carroll's case there is no hope.

  66. Ye, alot of people say no player is bigger than the club. So why can't a club reject a transfer request? Especially when a club is on the rise like Liverpool were under new ownership.

  67. "Liverpool won the Champions League in 2005 because of Gerard Houllier"

The most dangerous and irresponsible lie in football. Im a card carrying member of the Benitez Cult and will defend and our former manager to the very end...but this nonsense of Houllier winning the European Cup is damaging. do we say Paisley won Fagan's treble? Do we say Fagan won Dalglish's double? Ofcourse we don't...Benitez was the reason we won the European Cup. If Houllier had remained manager, can you really see us winning the European Cup? Think we would have been eliminated by Grazer AK :(

  68. What a load of absolute bull-crap. Any person who calls himself remotely a fan of liverpool football club would never sling mud at Dalglish this way. Benitez was good no doubting that. As a pure tactician, he's probably better than Dalglish. But the difference between clubs like Liverpool and others is that everone associated with the club lives and breathes Liverpool. Thats true of Dalglish, thats true of Gerrard, Carragher and even foreign boys like Lucas and Reina. Dalglish has brought anticipation back to the Kop. You no longer go into Old Trafford expecting to come away with a point but to win the whole damn thing and win it well.
The results have been nothing short of excellent so far. The results at Anfield showed fluid, pass-move football but unfortunately din't give us wins. The away results at the Bridge twice were completely dominant. This looks like a great squad, led by a great and loved manager and should be encouraged. When he says he's building for the future, there's no doubting him, seeing as he was the head of the academy that came out with spearing, kelly, flano and the rest. Liverpool games are now exciting to watch, people are playing with smiles on their faces, people kiss their badges after scoring goals. That was, is and will be Liverpool football club. Sorry to have to sound so insulting, but posts like these that are made with the least insight and deliberately attacking one of the club's greatest legends is painful to say the least.

  70. How old are you? I am as big a fan of Rafa as you are, but Kenny is every bit as great a manager as Rafa was. Which manager won us our last 3 league titles? We aren't even talking about his brilliance as a player, and he was our Luis Suarez for just about a decade. Is the atmosphere under Kenny any worse than Rafa's? Yes, Rafa is a big Liverpool fan, but Liverpool has no bigger fan than Kenny Dalglish. The fact Dalglish has retained so many of Rafa's players and replacing the one's Rafa sold, while getting rid of Hodgson's buys shows you the faith he too had in Rafa.

Dalglish signed the trio of Barnes, Beardsley and Aldridge who were pheomenal for us, and then signed Alan Shearer for Blackburn - and won them the Premier League. Blackburn winning the EPL? Impossible? A miracle? Dalglish did it.

When I first became a Liverpool fan, it was while watching a live telecast that Liverpool lost, 1-0 to Wimbledon at Wembley. I did not know their history then, but that was some pretty amazing football they played, despite losing. The manager? Kenny Dalglish. This was before Wenger or Pep Guardiola.

To me, Rafa will always be the best manager we had since Dalglish left, but Dalglish has returned. Kudos to Rafa for bringing him back.

  71. do people forget the absurd team choices benitez was making in his last
season at the club!! he had to go, his teams on the park and pathetic
timing of substitutions showed hed lost his passion. im not saying that
was his fault but he moved on at the right time. he has to take some
blame for the clubs slide. he was the MANAGER after all.
