After a period in the international wilderness, a consequence of indifferent form and bench duty at Liverpool, Ryan Babel is back in the Dutch national team, and he's determined to make it count.
In the latter stages of his Liverpool career, Babel spent a lot of time on the bench, and consequently lost his place in the Dutch team. He's cleary delighted to be back in the fold though:
"It's been a while, but it feels very nice. It's nice to see everyone again. There is much to catch up, and it gives me great confidence that I'm back.
"It's nice that Van Marwijk is interested enough to come and see me play. That gives you extra motivation. It feels good, and I will do everything to stay here".
Babel also provided some insight into his relationship with former Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, and acknowledged that he made mistakes:
"I may have made some mistakes in communication with the trainer. I now know I should have dealt with it differently. If players do not play, they are dissatisfied and they get a little frustrated, and this sometimes led to miscommunication between me and the trainer".
I assume Babel is talking about Hodgson, though I guess he could be talking about Rafa Benitez.

ReplyDeleteIt's called paraphrasing. Babel is clearly talking about Liverpool so by process of deduction, the probability is he's talking about Hodgson. Who else would he be talking about?
ReplyDeleteOne league start (3-0 win over Villa) in 6 months under Hodgson, with the first team desperately lacking pace, ideas and form. Absolutely ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteHodgson had the opportunity to make changes to his team but instead kept sticking with the same players and tactics that were failing week in, week out - which is why I said blame the manager even moreso than the players. If players are underperforming - drop them!!!
That's definitely NOT paraphrasing. Paraphrasing would be "Ryan Babel says that he couldn't communicate with Hodgson". What you have done here is a direct quote. Which doesn't exist, so it is actually a mis-quote, for which you could actually be sued...
