DALGLISH on TEVEZ: "If somebody refuses to play for you, you’ve got a problem..."

Carlos Tevez's refusal to play for Manchester City has been a hot topic of debate this week, and Kenny Dalglish has today given his views on subject. He also revealed whether anyone had ever refused to play for him at Liverpool.

Has anyone ever refused to play for Liverpool?

"Not that I can remember. It’s difficult for me to find someone who I could speak to because I don’t think that’s ever happened at Liverpool, thankfully, so I don’t know who I’d go to to chew the cud over that one"

On the Tevez issue, Dalglish was his usual cagey self:

"If somebody refuses to play for you you’ve got a problem, but fortunately we don’t have that, and if somebody else has got those kind of problems I’m sure they’ll solve it themselves. Until it comes across our doorstep, there’s no point in us even contemplating what might happen.

However, Dalglish did remember one particularly troublesome player he had to deal with:

"I remember when there was a player-manager who was really upset when he was left out, and that was me. I had a word with Marina about it and told her ‘this is out of order’"

  1. I love Kenny's refusal to speak about other clubs, and the players of other clubs. I wish harry redknapp would take a leaf out of his book.

  6. Even if Mascherano did refuse to play (which we don't know for certain) at least he made up for it by referring to doing us a favour when Barcelona outplayed man utd in the Champions League final. www.everyonehatesmanutd.com

  7. Javier Macherano refused to play against city. not sure on torries,  but we sold javier cheap to barca, we was forced to, players get to much money and get away with way to much. if the refuse they should be banned lifetime and payback contract,

  8. Playing for another team and making some token gesture in an interview makes everything all good for you? Really??

  9. Hodgson played into their hands with that transfer - everybody knew that Masch wanted out, and instead of just trying to negotiate a transfer asap for the best price, instead the manager waited until the last minute which put the buying club in the stronger position (especially seeing as there were no longer any other interested parties).

Benitez should've sold him the year previous when the big money and Toure (a better player anyway) was on the table, so that was an even bigger mistake though.

I agree with what you say though anyway - way too much power has been handed to players, with little to no responsibility coming along with it (i.e. players are never held accountable for their poor performances)

  10. It should be in the contract - that in case of refusal to play - the club can fine the player of up to a 2 monthes wages. In premier league money it can get to a million pounds!
    That is absoloutly unacceptable.

  12. Mascherrano was signed by Rafa,Mascherrano said himself Rafa was like a father to him who was unbelievable for his career,Rafa helped, nurtured and made Masch world class.Mascherrano was promised a transfer and was desperate to leave yet stayed because of Rafa, then Purslow comes in and sacks Rafa and brings in Roy H.What the hell did you expect form Mascherrano when Liverpool were breaking promises to him getting rid of possibly the best manager in the world and replacing him with a fourth rate English one.
