Liverpool-Kop.com: The Future...

Howdy! As regular visitors will know, I've been away for a while, and after six weeks on the lam, it's time for an update on the site.

I'll cut right to the chase: I've grown to utterly despise football over the last ten years. At every level, the game is a cesspool of greed, self-interest, and corruption, and I find it increasingly difficult to have any respect for the majority of today's preening, narcissistic, out-of-touch footballers.

The rampaging sense of entitlement is just sickening, and none of the current crop of mewling millennial milquetoasts are worth their increasingly grotesque salaries. To add insult to injury, the current incarnation of Liverpool FC is a pale, emaciated shadow of the glorious club I grew up with. Like most top-tier football clubs, modern LFC has mutated into a soulless, grasping, corporatised shell, with a concerted focus on endlessly ripping-off the worldwide fanbase.

For me, there's something inherently disturbing (and tragically ironic) about (predominantly) working-class fans passionately deifying and glorifying pampered multi-millionaires who don't give a damn about anyone or anything but themselves. I find it hard to comprehend, and it's a disconnect that I've never been able to shake.

But, hey, if you want to buy ten different shirts every season, pay ridiculously inflated prices for tickets, and pretend that Mane, Can, Firmino et al actually care about the fanbase, then knock yourself out!

Ultimately, the malignant avarice and pernicious cheating of football makes me sick, and in my own small way, I feel complicit in the degradation of the once-beautiful game. I have very little love left for the game, and I feel hypocritical writing about football when I dislike it so much. I no longer have any desire to be part of the machine, so I'll be scaling down my posting frequency (much to the delight of my many detractors, I'm sure!).

Also, tribal, racist, over-emotional, cheat-apologist football fans bug the hell out of me.

On a related note, I'll be publishing several LFC-related books over the next year, starting with my (oft-delayed) book about the Luis Suarez-Patrice Evra debacle. Thanks a million to all the site's regular visitors over the years.

And that, as they say, is that!
