With the summer transfer window fast approaching, Jurgen Klopp is reportedly remains interested one of the Championship's brightest prospects.
Last month, The Independent claimed that Liverpool were close agreeing a deal for 'excellent' Fulham star Ryan Sessegnon, and according to the Liverpool Echo today:
"Ryan Sessegnon remains Liverpool's top left-back target. The Reds intend to pursue Sessegnon as a replacement for Alberto Moreno. Klopp believes he [is] the ideal new recruit to compete with James Milner for the left-back spot".
UK Bookmakers currently have Liverpool as 13/5 favourites to sign Sessegnon, but if this story is true, then it's concerning that:
* Klopp intends to play Milner out of position yet again next season as a left-back, even though Milner recently admitted that he is 'frustrated' with being played out of position.
* Klopp thinks that £15m-rated Sessegnon - who has zero top flight and/or European experience - is the only backup left-back Liverpool need in a European season.
Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic is keen to keep Sessegnon, and in a recent interview, he urged the youngster to continue his development at Craven Cottage:
"The best thing is for [Sessegnon] to stay with us, and keep learning and preparing for a more important step. He should just enjoy his first days as a professional at this level".
Jokanovic is obviously right, but his words will probably fall on deaf ears. There's (arguably) no developmental reason for a 16/17-year old to leave when he's playing regular first-team football.
Liverpool need an experienced left-back, not a kid who is still growing and physically developing.
