Klopp to Sign? Liverpool make new offer for 'excellent' €24m Madrid sensation; decision expected soon

Left-back is a priority position for Liverpool to fill this summer, and reports in Spain this week suggest that Jurgen Klopp has made a concrete move for one of La Liga's most coveted full-backs.

In March, a report on Spanish radio network Cadena Ser claimed that Liverpool held talks with Atletico Madrid about signing 'excellent'19-year old left-back Theo Hernandez who is currently on loan at Alaves).

Now, according to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo:

"Theo Hernandez has has received five great offers, from Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, PSG and Liverpool. He will soon tell his agent, Manuel Garcia Quilón, where he wants to play next season".

Some info about 'excellent' Hernandez:

* 19-year old Atletico Madrid left-back. Currently on loan at Alaves. £21m buyout clause.

* 28 apps for Alaves this season (4 assists). No senior apps for Atletico.

* 16 apps for various France youth teams.

* Jan 2017: Diego Simeone enthused: "Theo has power, physical strength, and pace from midfield. We are happy about what is happening to him."

* Apr 2017: When asked today about Hernandez's future, his told Foot Mercato: "Many teams follow him [Hernandez] but we have not decided yet. He wants to stay in Spain."

If Hernandez wants to 'stay in Spain', then Madrid and Barcelona clearly have the advantage, and with PSG and Bayern in the mix, Liverpool's overall chances appear to be slim.

In my view, it's no big loss. In a probable Champions League year, the priority for the left-back position is (or should be) an older, more experienced player, and Hernandez is a teenager with less than 30 senior games to his name.

That said, Liverpool are also chasing Ryan Sessegnon, who at the age of 16, is 3 years younger than Hernandez, so it looks like Klopp is targeting young players for the position.

* Buyout clause: €24m
