Deal Close: Liverpool in talks to sign 'brilliant' €20m international who wants LFC transfer

Liverpool continue to be linked with new defenders, and with the transfer window fast approaching, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp is reportedly tracking one of Denmark's best centre-halves.

According to Turkish newspaper Fanatik today:

* Liverpool are in talks with the agent of €20m-rated Fenerbahce defender Simon Kjaer.

* Kjaer - nicknamed 'The Viking' - held talks with Inter and Milan this week, but he's 'very interested' in a move to Anfield.

Kjaer has been linked with Liverpool several times in the past, and the last arose in March, when a 'source close to Fenerbahce claimed that Liverpool have scouted Kjaer for 'much of the season'.

Some info about 'brilliant' Kjaer:

* 28-year old central defender. Contract expires: 2019

* Fenerbahce: 83 apps (6 goals/assists). 43 clean sheets whilst in the team (51% of games)

* Lille: 38 clean sheets in 79 games (48% of games).

* 2013-14: Helped Lille to one the best defensive records of any club in Europe, with only 26 goals conceded in 38 games (21 clean sheets.)

* Sep-Dec 2013: Kjaer helped Lille keep 11 clean sheets in a row.

* Injuries: Missed 14 games through injury over the last 18 months.

* Denmark: 66 apps (5 goals/assists). 2-time Danish player of the Year.

* Oct 2014: Kjaer insisted that he's interested in a move to the Premier League: “I will not be moving just for the sake of it. Everything would have to be perfect to realise a move to England. I wouldn’t be moving there just for a bigger pay check, for example”

* Nov 2014: When specifically asked about Liverpool's interest, Kjaer admitted: "My family are Liverpool fans and a move to Liverpool would make my family happy"

Kjaer has helped both Lille and Fenerbahce achieve some seriously impressive defensive stats. The Dane also has an affinity for Liverpool, and he'd cheaper than both Michael Keane and Virgil Van Dijk. A potential replacement for Lovren?
