'New Bergkamp' to Anfield? Legend claims 'excellent' €25m sensation could 'play for Liverpool' next season

Ajax legend Sjaak Swart has urged Liverpool to make a move this summer for one of the Dutch club's brightest talents.

When asked this week about Ajax captain Davy Klaasen, Swart - who spent his entire 17-year career at the club - told Omnisport:

“Davy Klaassen only leaves if he can go to a really good club. I [would] rather see Davy Klaassen playing in England or Germany. He can play for Arsenal and Liverpool, and [he would cost] between €20-25million".

Ajax legend Ronald De Boer also believes that Liverpool is the perfect destination for Klaassen. In February, he insisted:

"He [Klaassen] would fit in perfectly at Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool. He has an excellent mentality, and that is his main quality".

Klaassen appears to be open to a move. When asked last week about his future, he told reporters:

"Was this my last home game for Ajax? I do not know. The rumours are occasionally about, and I have not made a choice yet".

Some info about Klaassen, who is nicknamed the 'New Bergkamp':

* 24-year old central attacking midfielder. Contract expires: 2019.

* Ajax (Last 4 Seasons): 91 goals/assists 176 apps (One every 165 mins)

* This Season: 32 G/A in 49 apps (One every 134 mins)

* Holland: 4 G/A in 11 apps.

* Scouting Report: "Technically-gifted attacking midfielder. Can also function up front. Abundance of energy and tackling. Natural intuition in pressing. Ability to position himself well when he loses the ball".

* Oct 2015: Klaassen on Denis Bergkamp: “Bergkamp played in the same sort of position. I’ve trained alot with him on my first touch and finishing. I think I’ve learned the most from him.”

* Oct 2016: Frank De Boer enthused: "You can see the outstanding job Dennis Bergkamp did with him. His way of shooting; the cold-blooded composure; how to make the right choices. Klaassen had a great maestro".

Dec 2016: Crowned 'Dutch Footballer of the Year'.

In my view, Klaassen ticks all the boxes for a Liverpool transfer: lots of domestic and European experience; mid-20s, and entering his prime years; rarely injured; experience of winning major trophies (3x title winner); consistently scores/creates goals.

Plus, perhaps most importantly, Klaasen is a leader, and Liverpool are desperate for leaders. Gini Wijnaldum won the 'Dutch Footballer of the Year' award for 2015, and then signed for Liverpool, so perhaps history may repeat itself this summer?
